Abstract

Interpretation of QS. Al-Baqarah verse 221 regarding interfaith marriages always experiences shifts in meaning.  This research aims to find out the literal message about interfaith marriage in the QS. Al-Baqarah verse 221. This research method uses a type of literature by collecting primary and secondary literature, then the researcher analyzes it using a romantic analysis approach which has two stages, namely grammatical analysis of the text and analysis of the author's psychological condition. The results of this research show that the law on marriage between people of different religions is permitted with two notes, namely: first, marriage between different religions is permitted only for non-Muslims who believe in one god (Arianism), what is meant is Arianism Christians, considering that at that time Christians were divided. into two groups, namely Arianism and Anathasianism. Second, it is permissible to marry ahlul kitab in question who is a Christian who is able to maintain his honor, not a polytheist. The implications of this research are in completing the understanding of texts that are often overlooked. Especially Schleiermacher's hermeneutical analysis.

Abstract

One of the reasons for wrong behavior by a child is that the parenting style implemented by the parents is not working well. Therefore, this research was conducted to find solutions for ideal parenting patterns that refer to the Quran. The research method used is mixed methods, which combines qualitative research related to parenting models in the Quran and quantitative approaches to determine the level of implementation in social reality. The results of this research show that there are four parenting patterns for parents towards their children: by building good communication, using calls that honor the child, conveying the consequences of mistakes and cultivating an attitude so that the child is respectful to both parents. This research has 108 respondents of students’ parents of SMPIT Darul Quran Bogor. It concludes that parents have a level of implementation of good communication parenting patterns with the highest percentage of 27%, and the lowest implementation in parental cultivation is in the process of instilling the consequences of bad deeds morals so that children are respectful to their parents, amounting to 23%. These findings indicate that maximum efforts are needed to ensure that children have good character to their parents by informing them of the consequences.

Abstract

One of the most pressing and multifaceted challenges in contemporary society is the issue of justice in human life. Social inequality, discrimination, and disparities in access to fundamental rights - such as education, economic opportunities, and healthcare - serve as tangible evidence that justice often remains an abstract ideal without equitable implementation. This study examines the concept of humanity and justice in Islam through the interpretive framework of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas, with a focus on: (1) the definition of justice, (2) the individual as the subject of justice, (3) individual freedom as the foundational principle of justice, and (4) equality as a critical prerequisite for justice. Employing a qualitative research design, this study utilizes a descriptive-analytical method combined with a philosophical exegesis approach, interpreting Qur'anic verses through philosophical theory. The findings indicate that humans, as moral agents, play a pivotal role in the realization of justice. Justice, as a core Islamic principle, originates from divine revelation and embodies balance, harmony, and the proper allocation of all things to their rightful place. Justice is achieved when individuals, acting as its practitioners, consciously and freely acknowledge and submit to Allah as the Creator, fulfill their obligations, and equitably honor the dignity of others. Al-Attas underscores the human role as vicegerents (khali>fah) on earth, bearing the responsibility to uphold justice in alignment with human nature (fit}rah). Furthermore, ethics and one’s relationship with God are identified as essential foundations for fostering justice within society and the state.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of understanding the position of women in Islam, particularly in the context of Qur’anic exegesis of Surah Ar-Rum: 21, which emphasizes the role of women in building both family. The differences in interpretation among various exegetes necessitate a comparative study of two prominent scholars, Fakhruddin Ar-Razi and Mutawalli Asy-Sya’rawi. In this verse, the role of women is highlighted primarily as wives who provide tranquility, affection, and harmony within the family, while at the same time reflecting values of mercy and compassion that extend to a broader contribution in building society. The method employed is library research with a qualitative approach, analyzing comparatively Ar-Razi’s Mafatih al-Ghayb and Asy-Sya’rawi’s Tafsir Khawatir along with other supporting literature. The findings reveal that both exegetes agree that women are a divine blessing and a complement to men, with mutually supportive roles in the family. However, Ar-Razi emphasizes differences in obligations based on nature from a philosophical and conservative standpoint, while Asy-Sya’rawi adopts a moderate and contextual approach that relates role distinctions to human disposition (fitrah) and divine law (sunnatullah) as well as modern social relevance. Asy-Sya’rawi’s interpretation is more adaptive to contemporary change, while Ar-Razi provides a classical intellectual foundation that remains significant for exegetical studies.

Abstract

This study examines the interpretive differences in classical Quranic legal exegesis, which are often perceived as expressions of sectarian bias. Focusing on the interpretation of Q.S. al-Maidah [5]:6, the article aims to reassess whether madhhab-based differences reflect ideological division or epistemic variation. Using a qualitative, library-based approach, this study analyzes four major works of Ahkam al-Quran—by al-Jassas (Hanafi), al-Kiya al-Harrasi (Shafii), Ibn al-Arabi (Maliki), and Ibn al-Jawzi (Hanbali). The analysis employs Ibn Taymiyyah’s framework of Ikhtilaf al-Mufassirin to classify types of interpretive differences, complemented by a discursive perspective inspired by power-knowledge analysis. The findings show that most differences among the exegetes fall within ikhtilaf tanawwu (legitimate variation), rather than contradiction. These variations arise from linguistic interpretation, juristic reasoning, and methodological commitments, not from sectarian motives. This study argues that such diversity can be understood as a scientific naturalism of tafsir, in which interpretive plurality emerges naturally from the internal dynamics of the Quranic text and the intellectual frameworks of the mufasir. This perspective contributes to Quranic studies by reframing madhhab-based differences as a form of disciplined epistemic diversity rather than ideological conflict, thereby offering a more balanced understanding of classical tafsir.

Abstract

This study analyzes the strategic position of the Quran mushaf as a subject in Islamic literature research, with an emphasis on its ongoing processes of preservation and codification. The text asserts that the authenticity of the Quran text to this day is the result of a systematic collaboration between two methods of safeguarding: memorization in the heart (al-hifz fi al-sudur) as the primary form of continuous oral transmission, and writing in a written format (al-hifz fi al-sutur) as a means of documentation and verification. The approach is a qualitative study that analyzes both classical and modern sources, exploring the history of the preservation of the Quranic text, from the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the standardization of the mushaf by Uthman. The study results show that this dual system has been functioning well for a long time, providing a strong historical and social basis for claims of the Qurans authenticity. By emphasizing this collaboration, the study aims to respond to and challenge the views of orientalists (such as Wansbrough and Crone) who often question the texts authenticity solely on the basis of written documents. The main conclusion asserts that the truth of the Quranic text is not merely a matter of theological belief but a historical reality explored through a robust and comprehensive preservation system.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the relationship between the plurality of qiraat and the process of Quranic standardization in the modern era, in which the Hafs an Asim narration accounts for approximately 95% of global mushaf circulation. Using a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, this research examines classical and modern scholarly literature. The novelty of this study lies in the clear distinction between unification as a theological belief in all valid recitations and standardization as a practical-pedagogical necessity. The findings indicate that the global dominance of the Hafs narration resulted from systematic educational standardization and mass-printing policies, beginning in 1924 with the Cairo Mushaf and in 1985 with the King Fahd Complex, rather than from the invalidity of other narrations. The contribution of this research is providing an integrative model that positions the science of qiraat as an epistemic control system that balances linguistic diversity with the social need for a single standard. These findings are crucial for correcting public perception and maintaining deep respect for the various valid and mutawatir narrations within the Islamic intellectual tradition.

Abstract

Reform within the Islamic scholarly tradition refers to efforts to renew thought and methodology so that they remain relevant to changing times without abandoning the religion's fundamental principles. This study aims to analyze the form of methodological reform in manhaj al-mufassirin presented in Tafsir al-Manar by Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Rida, particularly regarding the integration of rationality, maqasid al-syariah, and the orientation toward social reform in Quranic interpretation. This research employs a qualitative approach, using content analysis of the Tafsir al-Manar text, complemented by a contextual examination of the reformist thought of both scholars in their responses to the social, political, and intellectual challenges of the early modern period. The findings indicate that the methodological reform introduced by al-Manar is grounded in efforts to restore the Quran's role as a guide for societal transformation through rational, progressive, and public-oriented interpretation. The rationality employed is not speculative but seeks to harmonize revelation with the advancement of scientific knowledge. Meanwhile, maqasid al-syariah serves as a normative framework for interpreting social, legal, and ethical verses. These findings demonstrate that al-Manar advances a modern exegetical methodology that not only promotes methodological reform but also contributes significantly to the reconstruction of contemporary Islamic civilization.

Abstract

Amid the rising global mental health crisis, this study aims to construct a systematic model of resilience mechanisms derived from the Quran, moving beyond previous conceptual studies that tend to focus primarily on moral values. This research addresses that gap by analyzing the structural and thematic coherence (munasabah) between Surah Ad-Duha and Al-Inshirah. Using a qualitative library-based approach, the study synthesizes interpretations of authoritative classical scholars such as ar-Razi and al-Biqai with concepts from Islamic psychology and modern psychological frameworks, including Cognitive Restructuring and Behavioral Activation. The main findings indicate that these two surahs form a systematic recovery mechanism consisting of three progressive stages: (1) Tasbit al-Fuad (Crisis Stabilization), which emphasizes acceptance, consolation, and hope; (2) Syukur al-Faal (Narrative Reconciliation), achieved through reflection on past blessings and prosocial action; and (3) Mujahadah Daimah (Growth Activation), which involves strengthening inner capacity, reinforcing conviction, and activating continuous purposeful action to prevent post-crisis stagnation. This model implies a shift in understanding the Quran from merely a source of ethical guidance to a functional framework for psychological recovery processes, offering conceptually applicable insights for contemporary society.

Abstract

This study examines the methodology of legal argumentation (al-manahij al-istidlaliyah) employed by al-Qurtubi in his Tafsir al-Jami li Ahkam al-Quran. Previous studies on al-Qurtubis tafsir have generally focused on the thematic discussion of legal verses, the legal rulings he derived, or the overall characteristics of his legal exegesis; however, these works remain largely descriptive and have not specifically analyzed the epistemological structure and argumentative framework underlying his process of deriving legal rulings. This gap has led to a limited understanding of al-Qurtubis tafsir, which is often viewed solely through its legal conclusions, without examining the methodological reasoning that connects textual evidence to those conclusions. This study addresses that gap by reconstructing al-Qurtubis pattern of legal argumentation through an analysis of his use of scriptural evidence, linguistic reasoning, principles of usul al-fiqh, considerations of maqasid al-shariah, and his systematic mechanism of tarjih. Using a qualitative library research approach, the study finds that al-Qurtubi integrates Quranic and prophetic texts with rational legal reasoning and juristic principles to construct a coherent, structured model of legal interpretation. The novelty of this research lies in its systematic reconstruction of al-Qurtubis methodological framework, demonstrating how tafsir methodology and juristic reasoning converge to form a rigorous and contextually relevant model of Islamic legal argumentation.
