Abstract

Mental well-being is a topic that attracts attention from various disciplines, including psychology and Sufism. This research aims to explore the theoretical basis of mental well-being from the perspective of psychology and Sufism. This research is conducted in a descriptive qualitative manner using a literature approach. Data will be collected from various literature sources such as books, journal articles, and other academic works related to psychology and Sufism in the context of mental well-being. In the context of psychology, various theories such as self-determination theory, hedonic and eudaimonic well-being, and authentic happiness provide insight into the factors that contribute to individual mental well-being. On the other hand, Sufism, as a spiritual branch of Islam, offers a unique perspective on well-being through concepts such as zuhud (purification of the soul), ma'rifatullah (self-recognition of God), qalbun salim, patience and gratitude. Several studies have explored the relationship between psychology and spiritual and religious aspects. In general, it is found that individuals with higher levels of religiosity and spirituality tend to have better mental well-being. Psychology provides a scientific framework and practical techniques, while Sufism offers spiritual insights and a deep look into human nature and the purpose of life. By integrating the understanding of these two fields, it is hoped that good and reliable research results can be obtained.

Abstract

The reform or modernization movement has gradually led the Muslim community to depart from the pure teachings of the religion of Islam, such as the knowledge of Sufism. Classical Islamic teachings are perceived as outdated and antiquated. However, by abandoning the pure teachings of Islam, the Muslim community will only become more left behind and lose touch with their own identity. Hadratus Syaikh KH. Muhammad Hasyim Asy'ari was one of the scholars who opposed this modernization movement through the Sufi education he taught. Hadratus Syaikh wrote the basic concepts of Sufi knowledge in his books, such as Adāb al-'Ālim wa al-Muta'alim, Haẓihi ar-Risālah Jāmi'at al-Maqāṣid, Risālah ad-Durar al-Muntaṡiroh fī al-Masāil at-Tis'a 'Asyrah, Tamyīz al-Ḥaq min al-Bāṭil, and Risālah fī at-Taṣawuf. This research is a literature study that examines five books written by Hadratus Syaikh KH. Muhammad Hasyim Asy'ari. The research findings reveal that the Sufi education of Hadratus Syaikh KH. Muhammad Hasyim Asy'ari represents Sunni or Ethical Sufism, which utilizes the teachings of Tazkiyatun Nafs (purification of the soul) and Tarbiyah Ruhaniyah (spiritual education). The result is a balance between the spiritual and the ritual aspects. This concept of Sufi education needs to be taught in every educational institution to shape the character of students, as it is highly relevant to the current era of character education. Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the Big Five Personality Types and Family Social Support on Work-Life Balance in Single Working Mothers. The big five personality type scale, family social support and work-life balance were used to obtain data from 100 working single mothers aged 20-65 years with different work backgrounds and divorce status. Purposive sampling technique was used as a sampling method and then the research results were processed using linear regression analysis. The research results show that the big five personality type variables and family social support have varying influences on work-life balance in working single mothers. The extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness personality types were found to have no influence on work-life balance in working single mothers, while the emotional stability and intellect personality types and family social support had a positive influence on work-life balance in working single mothers. The contribution of the emotional stability personality type to work-life balance is 22.5%, the intellect personality type to work-life balance is 10.8% and family social support to work-life balance is 26%. Multiple regression analysis is also carried out as an additional test and has a significance value that is not different from simple regression analysis. It is hoped that the results of these findings can be a reference for personnel staff in determining policies for single mother employees as well as understanding the important personality types for single mothers who work in achieving work-life balance so that productivity and mental well-being are well maintained.
