Abstract

Parenting has a central role in shaping early childhood character and behavior. In a modern social context characterized by high mobility and economic pressure, many parents unknowingly apply a permissive parenting style that emphasizes children's freedom rather than controlling behavior. This condition raises new problems in the form of a decline in children's ability to regulate emotions and obey social rules. Although a number of previous studies have discussed the relationship between parenting and child development, there are still limited studies that examine the emotional and social dimensions of permissive parenting in children aged 4-5 years directly in the context of families and early childhood education institutions—suggesting that there is a research gap that needs to be bridged. This study aims to describe the real practice of implementing permissive parenting and analyze its influence on the social-emotional behavior of children aged 4-5 years. The research method uses a qualitative approach of the type of case study. Participants consisted of 12 people (4 parents, 4 early childhood teachers, and 4 children) who were selected purposively based on direct involvement in parenting interactions. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and field documentation, using semi-structured interview guides and child behavior observation sheets as the main instruments. Data analysis was carried out with the interactive model Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing that took place simultaneously. The results of the study show that permissive parenting often arises due to emotional factors (fear of disappointing children) and social factors (busy work, economic pressure, and "inbearable" culture). Children who are raised permissively tend to be confident and expressive, but experience obstacles in emotional control, obedience to rules, and social cooperation. These findings confirm that permissive parenting has a dual impact: it strengthens children's emotional freedom but weakens self-discipline and regulation. Therefore, this study recommends synergy between parents and PAUD institutions in balancing affection and discipline to support children's social-emotional development optimally.

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of integrating music into classroom learning activities on the concentration, focus duration, interest, and task completion of early childhood learners aged 3–5 years at KB Roudhotul Jannah. Limited attention span and frequent distractions in the classroom prompted the need for an intervention that supports emotional regulation and sustained engagement. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining classroom observations, structured interviews, and documentation. Fifteen children participated in the study using purposive sampling. Observation sheets consisted of four indicators: attention level, focus duration, interest in activities, and task completion. Instrument validity was ensured through expert review by early childhood education specialists. The results revealed that prior to the use of music, most children were only able to maintain their focus for 3-5 minutes, were easily distracted by sounds or peer movements. It showed low engagement in learning activities. After systematically being implemented into classroom routines- through accompanying songs, rhythmic clapping, and soft background music played-significant improvements were observed across all measured aspects. Children with high concentration increased from 13 % to 47%, those with a focus duration of ≥ 7 minutes rose from 7% to 53 %, activities interest grew from 20 % to 67 % and task completion improved from 33% to 87 %. The findings demonstrate that music serves as an effective auditory stimulus for enhancing emotional stability, extending attention span, and improving learning engagement. This study provides novel insight into the systematic integration of music within daily preschool routines, particularly in a rural Indonesian early childhood education setting. Music implementation is recommended as a pedagogical strategy to promote cognitive readiness and emotional regulation in early childhood learning environments.

Abstract

Purpose: This research is motivated by the need to develop numeracy skills in early childhood meaningfully through the use of natural media as a contextual learning tool.Methodology: The goal of this study is to outline the methodology and findings of investigating the use of natural media in numeracy instruction for kids in the 4–5 age range at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Depok II Kindergarten. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed interactively and descriptively quantitatively to see the achievement of child development indicators. Results: The results show that the use of natural media consistently has a positive impact with an average achievement of 89.3% in the numeracy aspect, high child involvement, and very positive teacher perceptions. These results show that natural media is a useful medium for learning numeracy and corroborate Piaget's theory of cognitive development and the concepts of contextual learning. The practical implication is that teachers are advised to integrate natural materials into lesson plans and act as active facilitators.Applications/Originality/Value This research has limitations in sample size and observation period, so it is recommended that ongoing research with an experimental design and broader scope is recommended. Overall, this study confirms the importance of exploring natural media as an effective and relevant numeracy learning strategy in early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process and results of improving children's fine motor skills through finger painting activities at Sahabat Early Childhood Education Center, Colomadu, Karanganyar. This research was conducted due to the need for better stimulation of fine motor skills, as previous methods were less interesting and lacked variety. The method used was qualitative with a collaborative approach, which included observation, interviews, and collective documentation. This study involved six children aged 4–5 years and two educators. The criteria for measuring fine motor skills included three aspects, namely (1) pattern formation, (2) shape conformity, and (3) finger flexibility. The results showed that finger painting activities were very effective in improving children's fine motor skills. Of the six children involved, four (67%) fell into the "Developing as Expected" (DAE) category in all three aspects measured. This improvement was supported by the finger painting activity mechanism, which provided sensory stimulation, strengthened the small muscles in the hands, and improved eye-hand coordination, in accordance with Piaget and Vygotsky's theories, particularly the concept of scaffolding. Additionally, this activity is also very helpful in building children's curiosity, focus, independence, and self-confidence, while replacing less interesting and boring methods. Research indicates that finger painting is a good and enjoyable approach to learning, capable of providing full stimulation for fine motor skills.
