Abstract

Organic fertiliser has been widely used by farmers in Jember Regency, one of which is the type of liquid organic fertiliser (LOF) of local microorganisms. Research related to innovation adoption mostly focuses on innovation attributes. 4 other variables affect the speed of innovation adoption besides innovation attributes, namely: (1) type of innovation decision (choice, collective, or authoritarian), (2) communication channels (interpersonal or mass media), (3) social system (norms, degree of network relatedness), and (4) change agent (level of promotion effort). The purpose of this study was to analyse the elements in LOF innovation communication in Jember Regency with descriptive statistics, including: (1) relative profit level; (2) type of innovation decision; (3) communication channels; (4) social system; and (5) change agent. The research is a type of survey research with a quantitative method approach. The data analysis method in this study includes the following stages: (1) determination of scale values, and (2) descriptive statistical analysis. The results of the study showed that the elements in LOF innovation communication in Jember Regency generally show high achievements, so it can be concluded that LOF innovation has received support from farmers in Jember Regency. The elements of communication channels, social systems, and agents of change have achieved very high achievements, while the relative advantages element is already high, and the innovation decision type element is still moderate. Some things that need to be improved are decision-making at the farmer group level to be more democratic and prioritise deliberation. In addition, the relative advantages level can still be increased by overcoming technical constraints in LOF production and application.

Abstract

In the digital era, students increasingly rely on online platforms to fulfill their consumption needs for food and non-food products. The development of e-commerce and digital payment systems such as e-wallets has changed consumption patterns, offering ease of transactions and increasing the tendency of consumptive behavior. Consumerism, which is the tendency to buy excessively without considering actual needs, is a phenomenon that needs to be studied more deeply. Students are vulnerable to impulsive consumption due to promotions, discounts, and easy access to online products. This study examines the relationship between the use of e-wallets, e-commerce, and college students' consumerism levels in food and non-food shopping.

Abstract

This study analyses shallot import trends in Indonesia and Malaysia from 2010 to 2023. Indonesia, while a net exporter, experiences fluctuating imports, primarily due to seasonal production variations and occasional supply shortfalls. Malaysia, lacking significant domestic production, consistently relies heavily on imports, primarily from India. The study utilises a descriptive qualitative method, incorporating both primary (interviews, observations) and secondary data (government reports, trade statistics). Key findings highlight Brebes, Indonesia, as a major shallot production centre, employing technologies like Controlled Atmosphere Storage (CAS) to extend shelf life. Data mining techniques, specifically linear regression, are used to predict shallot yields based on factors like land area, fertiliser use, and labour. Despite improved productivity per hectare, total production in Brebes fluctuated, indicating challenges in maintaining production scale. Malaysia's shallot import dependence is underscored by its reliance on 24 countries, with India being the largest supplier. MARDI's efforts to cultivate local shallot varieties represent a step towards self-sufficiency. The study examines factors driving imports, including resource limitations, consumption needs, competitive advantages, and economic policies. The instability of shallot production, particularly during the rainy season, contributes to price fluctuations. The analysis concludes by emphasising the need for both countries to enhance domestic production through technological advancements, improved cultivation techniques, and supportive government policies to reduce import dependence and stabilise prices.

Abstract

Labor allocation is a crucial aspect in the sustainability of rice farming, particularly in lebak swamp areas that possess unique ecological characteristics and demand adaptive strategies from farmers. This study aims to analyze the internal and external factors influencing labor allocation, as well as the strategies adopted by farmers in managing labor within the context of lebak swamp rice farming. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews involving 30 farmers in Pematang Bangsal Village, Pemulutan Selatan District. The data were analyzed using thematic coding techniques to identify key patterns. The findings reveal that internal factors such as motivation, farming experience, physical health, and farm management significantly affect labor allocation. Meanwhile, external factors include family support, agroecosystem conditions, and access to production inputs. Farmers' adaptive strategies involve intra-household division of labor, the use of hired labor, and adjustment of planting schedules. The study concludes that labor allocation dynamics in lebak swamp rice farming are complex and shaped by the interplay of multiple factors. Therefore, policy interventions and agricultural extension programs must be contextual and sustainable to effectively support labor management in such agroecological settings.

Abstract

Corn is the main commodity in dry land farming for most farmers in NTT Province and acts as a food source to maintain food security and as a source of income (cash income). Kupang Regency is one of the corn centre districts in NTT Province because it prioritises economic development in the agricultural sector in the food crop sub-sector. This study aims to measure the level of allocative efficiency of the use of corn farming production factors. This research was conducted in Kupang Timur District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province in 2024. The research was conducted using a survey method with simple random sampling. The sample determined as respondents was 92 farmers based on the area of cultivated land. The method used is the calculation of marginal product analysis, used to measure allocative efficiency and economic efficiency, which is measured by the division between technical and allocative efficiency. The results of the research analysis show that the factors that have a significant effect on corn farming production are land area, seeds, urea, KCL, SP36 and Pesticides. Furthermore, from the results of the analysis of allocative and economic efficiency, the efficiency values for the overall farmer category are 0.47 and 0.35, respectively and based on the division of land area, it shows that corn farming in East Kupang District is still inefficient. Corn farming efficiency needs to be improved through the use of production factors that have a significant effect on technical efficiency, such as land area and the addition of technology. Allocative and economic efficiency of corn farming can also be improved by reducing the use of excessive inputs and expensive input prices that which can save high farming costs so that it can affect farmers' income.
