The goal of the International Journal Corner of Educational Research (IJCER) is to keep readers up-to-date in worldwide developments in education reform by providing scholarly information and practical analysis from recognized international authorities. IJCER is the only peer-reviewed scholarly publication combining authors’ voices without regard to methodology or issue as they reflect on contemporary issues in educational reform. To this end, IJCER includes, but is not limited to inquiry-based and opinion pieces on educational issues and such areas as policy, administration, curriculum, instruction, law, and research. IJCER should thus be of interest to professional educators in and policymakers at all levels because it fosters broad-based conversations between and among policymakers, practitioners, and academicians about educational reform goals, objectives, and methods for success throughout the world. Readers can call on IJCER to learn from reading the works of international educational reformers who write about changes that have actually worked. Further, IJCER can help readers to understand the pitfalls of current trends in educational reform by reflecting on developments from around the global village.

Abstract

This study investigated the strategies trainers use in language proficiency enhancement training, as perceived by student call center agents. It specifically examined strategies for developing the four macro skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and grammar skills. Using thematic analysis, it was found that various strategies were employed. Firstly, reading strategies involve active reading and practice reading. Secondly, in terms of writing, their strategies were the process-based approach and the rule-based strategy. Thirdly, the strategy used in listening was active listening. Fourthly, the speaking strategies involved simulation and speaking tests. Lastly, for grammar skills, the strategy used was direct instruction. Participants also shared insights on the training they received from BPO companies, which included challenges in understanding diverse communication styles, struggles with fluent and natural communication, and language acquisition and development strategies. The results imply that understanding call center agents’ perspectives on language training can enrich the curriculum by offering effective strategies, such as hands-on simulated activities, active learning, and student-centered pedagogies, optimizing learning experiences and fostering more effective communication skills. Furthermore, the results underscore the importance of using learner input to continually evolve and optimize curriculum design, emphasizing the transformative impact of learning and learner-centered approaches on educational practices.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are Islamic educational institutions that play an important role in instilling the noble characters in Indonesian society. This study aims to identify the curriculum of mixed Islamic boarding schools, learning systems, advantages of mixed Islamic boarding schools, challenges of mixed Islamic boarding schools, and the implications of mixed Islamic boarding schools for the development of Islamic education. In this study, the researchers employ a qualitative approach under the library research method. The results of this study assert that the curriculum used by mixed Islamic boarding schools is in the form of an integrated curriculum which integrates the Islamic curriculum and the general curriculum. Furthermore, through the integrated curriculum and learning system, the mixed Islamic boarding schools have various advantages, i.e: the balance of Islamic and general knowledge; technology mastery; having noble characters; relevance to the challenges of the era; and social and cultural adaptation. In addition, the challenges faced today are: maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity of Islamic boarding schools; maintaining the quality of educators; improving the quality and quantity of Islamic boarding school facilities and infrastructure; and financing Islamic boarding schools. Finally, the implications of mixed Islamic boarding schools are on the development of Islamic education include: maintaining an adaptive Islamic education model, maintaining and improving the quality of output and outcome, contributing to nation building, maintaining and preserving Islamic boarding schools’ traditions, and safeguarding Islamic science.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of interactive learning media in enhancing students’ motivation to learn in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects. In today’s digital era, the use of interactive media has become an essential innovation in the field of education. These media provide a more engaging and enjoyable learning experience, actively involving students in the learning process. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that interactive learning media, such as educational videos, interactive quizzes, and digital applications, are effective in increasing students' interest and participation in PAI lessons. Students became more enthusiastic, actively asked questions, and demonstrated improved understanding of the subject matter. In addition, teachers felt supported in delivering materials more effectively and efficiently. The conclusion of this study is that interactive learning media play a significant role in improving students' learning motivation, especially in PAI subjects, which are often perceived as monotonous by some students. Therefore, the development and utilization of interactive media should continue to be enhanced to create more meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences.

Abstract

The nature of humans in the concept of Islamic education is a creature created by Allah SWT who can develop all the potential they have as well as possible without neglecting anything at all. The basic potential of human nature must be designed optimally and integrated through a lifelong education process. The research method used in obtaining data in this article is qualitative research with libraries, which takes data from the literature used to search for concepts, theories, opinions, or discoveries that are closely related to the main problem of this research. Based on the explanation in the discussion section, it can be concluded: (1) the terms used in the Qur'an in referring to humans are al-Insan (referring to humans who have special qualities and potential), al-Basyar (referring to humans as biological creatures), and al-Nas (referring to humans as social creatures); (2) The views of the figures on the nature of humans differ but the essence is the same, namely humans as creatures who have different potential from other creatures of Allah; (3) Humans are referred to as ahsan al-taqwin which places humans in a strategic position, namely as servants of Allah and as caliphs of Allah

Abstract

This study aimed to provide a systematic review of the trends in AI utilisation in education over the past decade (2015–2025). The Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was employed following the PRISMA protocol, with data sources drawn from four major databases: IEEE Xplore, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The total number of selected and analysed articles offered in-depth insights into various forms of AI implementation, such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning, educational chatbots, automated assessment, and learning analytics. The findings of the review indicated that AI significantly contributed to personalised learning, educational management efficiency, and early detection of potential academic failure. However, notable challenges also emerged, particularly concerning ethics, data privacy, and algorithmic bias. In addition, technical and social barriers such as the digital divide and resistance from educators continued to hinder the equitable adoption of AI. This review concluded that strategic and ethical approaches were required in the development and implementation of AI in order to ensure greater inclusivity and sustainability. These findings were expected to serve as a foundation for educational policy and future research directions.

Abstract

This study investigated the interplay between general communication skills (GCS), mathematics communication skills (MCS), and self-confidence in mathematics (SCM) among Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics (BSEd–Math) students in the Philippines. Utilizing a quantitative, descriptive-correlational design, data were obtained from 104 BSEd–Math students at the University of Mindanao through convenience sampling. Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient and regression analysis were employed to examine the relationships among the variables and to assess the potential moderating role of SCM. Findings indicate a non-significant correlation between GCS and MCS, suggesting the need for targeted pedagogical interventions to enhance mathematical communication skills among prospective mathematics educators. Moreover, SCM did not significantly moderate the relationship between GCS and MCS. These results emphasize the critical role of fostering both communication proficiency and mathematics confidence as integral components of teacher preparation. The study’s implications extend to instructional practice, highlighting the importance of interventions designed to strengthen problem-solving abilities and improve the clarity and precision with which mathematical concepts are conveyed in educational contexts
