Abstract

This creative works tells a story about a husband who hides his true identity from his wife. He is actually a transgender person who has a desire to be a woman, but he represses his desire and tries to live as a man. I choose the transgender topic because there are a lot of transgender people around us who repress their true sexuality because of the society norms and beliefs. Therefore, my story wants to explore more on this topic with the help of the theory of defense mechanism by Freud to explain why and how the husband represses his sexuality, and to explain the effects caused by the repression. The story is presented through the drama and psychological thriller genre to suit the style of the creative work which focuses on the psychological state of the main characters and the complexity within them,

Abstract

This research wanted to help the reader to understand about the classification of translation strategies in the novel The Fault in Our Stars. The writer used Larson’s (1998), proposes three strategies to translate figurative language. The writer was interested in analyzing the figurative language because there are many kinds of implicit meaning in figurative language; she felt that it was interesting to be analyzed. Besides, the writer chose a novel because it explains the story more detail than others such as movie. She chose The Fault in Our Stars novel because the story is quite touched and there are a lot of figurative languages on its novel. The writer hope that the translated meaning of figurative language can be the same as the original text.  Keywords: Translation, Translation Strategy, Figurative Language, Source Language, Target Language.

As a serviced apartment,many people were confused with the identity of High Point, because its name is a serviced apartment but it operates like a hotel. Abstract

This study is accomplished to assist the readers of the graphic novel project that is created to understand more about the elements in the graphic novel 4 Signatures. The purpose of this graphic novel is to educate people about the psychological aspects, what cause it and the results, and to support those who have similar psychological problem.Using the theory of Revenge and Child Abuse, this graphic novel will show the story and the attitudes of the main character cause by psychological problems. The awful result whether it is emotional, verbal, or physical done toward other people by the character helps the readers to understand more of what to do to someone with similar psychological problem and to avoid such psychological problems.

Abstract

This study is done to analyze the translation strategies used in order to translate BCA  company profile from Indonesian to English. In doing the study, the writer uses Baker’s (2018) eight translation strategies as the main theory. The methodology of this study is using the descriptive qualitative approach. The result of the study shows that the translator of BCA company profile is using six out of eight Baker’s (2018) translation strategies (translation by a more general word, translation by a more neutral/less expressive word, translation by a cultural substitution, translation by paraphrase using related word, translation by paraphrase using unrelated word, and translation by omission) in order to translate BCA company profile. The loan word and illustration strategies are both not used in the company profile translation. There is also a part which is  non-translation.

Abstract

This creative work is about the cinematography report from the screenplay meal for two by Satrio Haryanto. The story tells about two neighbors, a man and a woman, who lives next door but they do not know about each other personally. The woman realizes that the man attracted to her but she prefers to keep her distance, but after sometime, they get together since both shares the same secret. This creative work aims to portray the mood in order to create suspense, distance and closeness and to show the man’s paraphilia, the man’s curiosity, and the woman’s introversion. An in-depth analysis will be further developed to portray the mood. In order to support those elements, there are several techniques used such as low-key lighting, framing. These techniques are to help the cinematographer to convey the drama suspense genre. In addition, a detailed analysis will further explain different uses of camera work, lighting, and color in building the characterization in the whole movie. As a result, my work as a cinematographer will explain on how the mood and characterization on this film fits with the drama suspense genre. Keywords: cinematography, low-key lighting, camerawork, color, framing.

Abstract

This thesis investigates the teacher’s Written Corrective Feedback (WCF) strategies used in the students’ writing drafts and the effects analyzed from the comparison between the first and final drafts. It consists of fifty eight students’ writing drafts as the source of data limited to language use (LU) and vocabulary. The theories applied were the WCF strategies by Ellis (2009a); the effects of written feedback to students by Hyland (2003), and supported by Ferris (2006). The qualitative approach was used in this study. The finding revealed that the strategies used in the class were Direct CF (430 times), and Indirect CF (329 times). The effects were Error corrected, Incorrect change, No change, and Deleted text. Moreover, it was revealed that LU problem was more noticed by the students to be corrected. In conclusion, WCF can guide the students to be more aware of their mistakes and to improve their writing.

Abstract

This screenplay project focuses on cyberbullying's impacts on its victims, both mentally and physically. The goal is to shed light into this action of crime that is often overlooked, to make a better cyberspace environment, and to raise awareness to the public, especially cyberbullying perpetrators, to stop what they are doing. To do so, this creative thesis uses the cyberbullying concept that points out how cyberspace bullying can trigger paranoia and depression among many other mental disorders. The work is based on theories on paranoia, depression and cyberbullying itself. From the screenplay, it is shown how the main characters got cyberbullied, and later went from a healthy, hardworking, resilient man to a mentally broken human being as a consequence. By understanding the impact the act of cyberbullying can have on a person’s life, cyberspace users can be more responsible and refrain themselves from the act of cyberbullying.Keywords: Cyberbully, Screenplay, Depression, Paranoia, Psychological Thriller.

Abstract

The present study is aimed to find out the extent to which Anak Pintar seri English? No Problem! meet the 10 principles for designing video games for foreign learning proposed by Purushotma, Thorne, and Wheatley (2009). This study is a qualitative research that took the writers approximately 5 hours to play. The findings of this study show that Anak Pintar seri English? No Problem! matches 5 principles, for example, the principles of “content organized around tasks” and “metalinguistic descriptions and terminology presented as a supporting material”. The result of this study hopefully would be beneficial to the studies of video games for foreign language learning and for those that wish to evaluate or use video games as a learning tool.

Abstract

Nowadays, Chinese-Indonesians have already been modernized and many of them do not understand what rituals they have to undergo on their wedding day. It becomes a good opportunity for event organizers (EO) to do their businesses in arranging weddings. In this research, I am interested in finding out about the roles of event organizers in arranging Chinese-Indonesian wedding rituals. This study focuses on the roles of EO in running their business and arranging Chinese wedding rituals using the theory of consumerism. In consumerism, Chinese-Indonesian wedding rituals as a part of culture, can also be regarded as a product to be bought and sold. The data collected are from interviews with some EOs in Surabaya to find out the roles of EO in arranging Chinese-Indonesian wedding rituals. There are three different roles of EO, which are informant, organizer, and seller. Moreover, EO has the responsibility in succeeding the client’s wedding day.Keywords: Commodity, Consumerism, Event Organizer, Chinese-Indonesian, Wedding Ritual.
