Abstract

Background : Dental implant is one of the options to restore extracted tooth with fixed partial denture. This method of restoration is popular because of the ability of dental implant to replace the teeth without disturbing neighboring hard and soft tissues with very high long term survival rate. Dental implant procedure should be planned and executed with proper procedure to get an esthetic and functional restoration. This case report will discuss the treatment planning and procedure of placing of single unit implant placement on posterior tooth Case report : A 26-year-old woman came with complain of extracted lower right tooth 2 years ago and she wanted a fixed prosthesis to replace this tooth. Straumann BLT dental implant of diameter 4.1x Height 10mm is placed on this patient after treatment planning with radiograph image and study model analysis. Screw-cemented retained prosthesis was delivered on the implant to restore the function and esthetic of the missing 47 tooth. Conclusion : Planning and proper procedure during implant placement and restoration will lead to a good long-term esthetic and functional outcome.

Abstract

Background: Gonial angle is one of the angles measured in vertical skeletal analysis using lateral cephalograms. Gonial angle is made of tangent line to the posterior border of mandibular ramus with mandibular plane. Definition of gonial angle depends on mandibular plane which generally consists of various methods according to Downs, Tweed, and Steiner. Purpose: To investigate the difference of gonial angles measurement methods among vertical skeletal patterns on lateral cephalograms. Methods: Observational analytic research was conducted on 21 lateral cephalograms of orthodontic patients who had come to one of orthodontic clinic in Solo in 2016-2021. The cephalograms were taken by the same operator using Vatech PaX-i3D™, then they were categorized into 3 vertical skeletal pattern groups. Reference points and tracings were submitted to supervising orthodontist via ZOOM twice daily in the morning and in the afternoon. The measured data was recorded in table and was analyzed with Statistical for Social Science (SPSS) program. Results: In each vertical skeletal pattern groups, there was no significant difference found among Downs’s, Tweed’s, and Steiner’s gonial angles. There was significant difference among gonial angles of hypodivergent, normodivergent, and hyperdivergent samples. Conclusion: There was no significant difference of three gonial angle measurement methods among three vertical skeletal patterns on lateral cephalograms.

Abstract

Background: Epilepsy is a neurological condition that around 70 million people worldwide have. Phenytoin is the most common anti-epileptic therapy for controlling epilepsy and preventing its recurrence. The side effect of phenytoin therapy includes gingival overgrowth which often causes psychological and aesthetical problems, interferes with normal mastication, and worsen the gingival inflammation. There are surgical and non-surgical options to treat phenytoin-induced gingival overgrowth, one of the non-surgical options to treat phenytoin-induced gingival overgrowth. One of the non-surgical treatment for phenytoin-induced gingival overgrowth is folic acid supplementation, which has been studied to prevent the adverse side effects of phenytoin therapy despite the variative results. Objective: To discover the current theory depiction about the effect of folic acid supplementation on gingival overgrowth due to phenytoin therapy. Method: The type of the research is descriptive observational research and method of scoping review. Journals obtained using PCC (population, concept, and context) with population of patients on phenytoin therapy, using concept of preventing phenytoin-induced gingival overgrowth using agent supplementation, and context of folic acid. The inclusion and exclusion criteria filtered by boolean search on two databases, PubMed and Google Scholar from 1987 to 2020. Results: A total of 5 journals found and all of them are included in a table with the results of the studies discussing about folic acid supplementation in phenytoin-induced gingival overgrowth. Conclusion: Folic acid supplementation was found to delay the onset, reduce the incidence and severity as well as the risk of recurrence after gingivectomy on phenytoin-induced gingival overgrowth.

Abstract

Teeth position shifting in the jaw arch has been achieved for a long time, using active removable orthodontic appliances. This technique has faced some technological advancement as seen with the creation of Invisalign transparent aligner systems, which features digitally conducted treatment plans. The outcome is, therefore, stored, analyzed, and modified through computer devices, using a 3-dimensional display. Meanwhile, the advantage of transparent aligners is seen in the ease of use, as manual adjustments are not needed during the treatment progression, as observed with the conventional removable appliances. At the initiation of treatment with digital 3-dimension, teeth movement is determined using a computer device, characterized by enhanced aesthetic physical appearance. This increases patients’ interest in the subsequent use of appliance to produce the desired results, within the specified time frame. This literature study is, therefore, aimed at creating an insight on technological developments in the use of active orthodontic treatment, alongside conventional removable appliances.

Abstract

Dental implant is one option that can be used to replace loss of one or more teeth with fixed restoration in restoring the function of mastication, esthetic, and phonetic in patients. An understanding of alternative abutment and retention in implant prosthetic is needed to complete the entire implant treatment. In the first case a 40-year-old female patient was rehabilitated with Nobel Replace Conical Connection TiUnite implant. Final prosthetic is hybrid screw-retained metal porcelain crown with esthetic abutment. The second case the 39-year-old female patient came to get implant treatment on 36 regio, had previously been implanted but failed. CBCT radiograph results the patient had installed three implants on the lower right and upper left side. The patient had no systemic disease. Type of implant is the same as the first case, but the prosthese used cement-retained metal porcelain crown with universal base abutment. The selection of abutment and retention in a good implant prosthetic is important and is a success factor in implant treatment.
