Abstract

Background: Xylotrupes gideon is a harmful insect because it damages the shoots of coconut trees. Xylotrupes gideon has begun to be used in the form of nanochitosan as an alternative in dentistry. The addition of nanochitosan to Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) material is a modification to improve the properties of GIC, such as surface roughness caused by acidic conditions (critical saliva pH). Nano-sized chitosan is able to increase stability and better absorption, thus inhibit demineralization and increase tooth hardness. This research aimed to investigate the effect of nanochitosan from Xylotrupes gideon on the surface roughness of GIC at critical saliva pH.Method: This research type conducted is an experimental laboratory. Samples of 10 mm (height) x 2 mm (diameter) divided into 2 groups, (A) Unmodified GIC (control group), (B) GIC modified with 10% nanochitosan solution. Samples of the treatment and control group are stored in the incubator at 370C for 1 hour before early surface roughness testing and continued in critical saliva pH (5,5) for 7 days in the incubator before the final test. The surface roughness tester using sutrotonic s-100 series.Result: There was an increase in the surface roughness of conventional GIC by 0.133 µm and GIC nanochitosan by 0.122 µm. The results of the paired t-test before and after immersion in the two groups showed that there was a significant difference (p <0.05) between conventional GIC and nanochitosan GIC. The independent t-test results showed that there was no significant difference (p> 0.05) between the nanochitosan GIC and conventional GIC.Conclusion: Nanochitosan can reduce the surface roughness value of GIC at critical saliva pH, although there is no significant difference to conventional GIC.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Alpinia galanga (A. galanga) was reported as a potential medicinal source due to its wide effect. A. galanga rhizome crude extract (ARCE) was reported to have high cytotoxic effect in cancer cells, but low in normal cells. However half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of ARCE is not clearly known yet. Hence, current study was conducted to investigate the IC50 of ARCE in normal standard fibroblast cell line, NIH-3T3 cells.METHODS: Rhizomes of A. galanga were collected, peeled, dried, milled and weighed. Extraction was performed using maceration method, then filtered and evaporated. ARCE with various concentrations were applied in NIH-3T3 cells for 24 or 48 hours. Cells were documented and counted with 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay.RESULTS: Five hundreds grams of simplicia were macerated with ethanol and evaporated, 1 mg/mL crude extract with total volume of 114 mL was obtained. By addition of ARCE in NIH-3T3 cell culture, number of NIH-3T3 cells were shown less when treated with higher concentration of ARCE. Cell numbers of 0, 3.125, 6.25, 12.5, 25 and 50% ARCE treatment for 24 hours are 11,531, 11,352, 10,920, 10,365, 9,471, 8,360, respectively, meanwhile for 48 hours are 13,219, 12,686, 12,278, 11,390, 10,279, 8,390, respectively.CONCLUSION: IC50 of ARCE in 24 hours treatment was 620.5 mg/mL, while in 48 hours treatment was 666.6 mg/mL. Hence, ARCE is suggested to have low cytotoxic effect in NIH-3T3 cells.KEYWORDS: Alpinia galanga, ginger, extract, cytotoxic, MTT, NIH-3T3

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Penambahan nanokitosan pada modifikasi bahan restorasi kedokteran gigi bertujuan untuk memperbaiki sifat mekanik. Sifat mekanik dari suatu bahan dipengaruhi oleh struktur permukaannya. Bahan restorasi yang banyak dilakukan modifikasi yaitu Semen Ionomer Kaca (SIK), salah satunya dengan menambahkan nanokitosan. Sumber nanokitosan dapat berasal dari eksoskeleton serangga kumbang tanduk (Xylotrupes gideon). Xylotrupes gideon memiliki kandungan kitin sebesar 47%. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis morfologi permukaan semen ionomer kaca dengan modifikasi penambahan nanokitosan kumang tanduk. Metode: Jenis penelitian yaitu eksperimental laboratorium. Sampel berbentuk silindris dengan ukuran 6 mm (tinggi) × 4 mm (diameter). Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Jumlah sampel minimal sebanyak 1 sampel untuk setiap kelompok yaitu kelompok (A) SIK konvensional (kontrol), (B) SIK modifikasi 10% vol/vol larutan nanokitosan, (C) SIK modifikasi 5% vol/vol larutan nanokitosan, (D) SIK modifikasi 10% weight/weight bubuk nanokitosan, dan (E) SIK modifikasi 5% weight/weight bubuk nanokitosan. Sampel yang telah dibuat disimpan dalam inkubator dengan suhu 37°C. Karakterisasi morfologi permukaan sampel menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Hasil: Karakterisasi SEM menunjukkan adanya variasi retakan pada permukaan sampel yang diperiksa dengan pembesaran 2000× dan 3500×. SIK modifikasi bubuk nanokitosan menunjukkan lebih banyak retakan pada permukaannya serta peningkatan rasio nanokitosan kumbang tanduk menunjukkan peningkatan keretakan pada morfologi permukaan SIK. Simpulan: Penambahan nanokitosan kumbang tanduk (Xylotrupes gideon) pada Semen Ionomer Kaca  mengakibatkan perubahan morfologi permukaan SIK.Kata kunci: Semen ionomer kaca; kumbang tanduk; scanning electron microscopy ABSTRACTIntroduction: The addition of nanochitosan to the modification of dental restorative materials improves mechanical properties. Its surface structure influences the mechanical properties of a material. The restoration material that has been modified a lot is Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC), one of which is by adding nano chitosan. The source of nano chitosan can be derived from the exoskeleton of the rhinoceros beetle (Xylotrupes gideon). Rhinoceros beetle has a chitin content of 47%. This study aims to analyse the surface morphology of the glass ionomer cement with the modification of the addition of nano chitosan of rhinoceros beetle. Methods: This type of research was an experimental laboratory. The sample was cylindrical with 6 mm (height) × 4 mm (diameter). The sampling used was a purposive sampling technique. The minimum number of samples was one sample for each group, namely group (A) conventional (control) GIC, (B) modified GIC 10% vol/vol nanochitosan solution, (C) GIC modified 5% vol/vol nanochitosan solution, (D) GIC modification of 10% weight/weight of nanochitosan powder, and (E) modified GIC of 5% weight/weight of nanochitosan powder. Samples that have been made were stored in an incubator at 37°C. Characterisation of the surface morphology of the sample using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Results: SEM characterisation showed variations of cracks on the surface of the samples examined at 2000x and 3500x magnification. GIC modified nano chitosan powder showed more cracks on the surface, and an increase in the ratio of rhinoceros beetle nano chitosan showed an increase in cracks in the surface morphology of the GIC. Conclusions: The addition of nano chitosan of rhinoceros beetle to the GIC resulted in changes in the surface morphology.Keywords: Glass ionomer cement; rhinoceros beetle; scanning electron microscopy

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 di Indonesia telah berlangsung sejak bulan maret 2020 hingga sekarang. Kondisi tanpa kepastian ini telah menurunkan rasa kepedulian masyarakat terhadap Covid-19. Pembinaan kesehatan yang dilakukan secara online dengan pendekatan masyarakat dan peran aktif civitas akademika dalam memotivasi masyarakat untuk menerapkan perilaku hidup sehat dalam keseharian, tetap peduli lingkungan dan waspada terhadap Covid-19 dilakukan untuk memutus rantai penyebaran Covid-19. Selain penyuluhan, dilakukan juga pembuatan sarana umum untuk mendukung keberhasilan penerapan perilaku hidup sehat dengan menciptakan tempat cuci tangan sebagai fasilitas umum yang diharapkan mampu meningkatkan kebiasaan hidup sehat selama pandemi Covid-19. Kuesioner akhir menunjukkan kepuasaan masyarakat terhadap manfaat pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang telah dilakukan. Selain itu, keberhasilan juga dilihat dari aktif nya kembali gugus Covid-19 di wilayah ini dan perubahan perilaku dalam keseharian warga Ciater, Serpong dengan pemanfaatan fasilitas umum tempat cuci tangan. Peran aktif civitas akademika berhasil menimbulkan pengaruh positif dalam penerapan perilaku hidup sehat selama pandemi Covid-19.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Masyarakat mulai beradaptasi di tengah pandemi Covid-19. Aktivitas masyarakat di luar rumah seperti olahraga, yaitu bersepeda juga semakin meningkat. Peningkatan jumlah aktivitas bersepeda dapat menjadi potensi kluster baru penyebaran Covid-19 akibat mengabaikan protokol kesehatan saat berkumpul dan setelah selesai bersepeda. Hal ini dapat disebabkan karena kurangnya pengetahuan dan pemahaman masyarakat tentang transmisi dan pencegahan Covid-19. Kegiatan ini bertujuan memberikan edukasi dan pemahaman kepada komunitas bersepeda untuk memiliki pola hidup sehat menghadapi Covid-19. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan dalam bentuk presentasi power point secara daring melalui aplikasi zoom dan penggunaan poster yang menarik sebagai sarana pengingat dalam aktivitas di komunitas. kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman partisipan berdasarkan hasil pretest dan posttest peserta. Kegiatan edukasi pola hidup sehat menghadapi Covid-19 yang diberikan kepada komunitas bersepeda dapat berjalan baik dan mendapatkan tanggapan yang responsive serta antusias dari komunitas bersepeda. Kata Kunci : Covid 19, Hidup Sehat, Bersepeda ABSTRACT People are starting to adapt in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Community activities outside the home such as sports, namely cycling are also increasing. An increase in the number of cycling activities could be a potential new cluster of Covid-19 spread due to ignoring health protocols when gathering and after cycling. This could be due to a lack of public knowledge and understanding about the transmission and prevention of Covid-19. This activity is to provide education and understanding to the cycling community to have a healthy lifestyle to deal with Covid-19 in cycling. The extension method is carried out by an approach in the form of online power point presentations through the Zoom application and the use of attractive posters as a means of reminders in community activities. The counseling showed an increase in participants' understanding based on the results of the participants' pretest and posttest. The educational activities on a healthy lifestyle to deal with Covid-19 given to the cycling community can run well and get a responsive and enthusiastic response from the cycling community. Keywords : Covid-19, Healthy Lifestyle, Cycling

Abstract

ABSTRAK Masalah kesehatan gigi yang sering terjadi pada anak usia sekolah yaitu karies. Kurangnya pengetahuan mengenai kesehatan gigi menyebabkan tingginya angka karies pada anak. Anak pada usia sekolah cenderung akan mencontoh perilaku gurunya, sehingga guru dapat berperan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan kesehatan gigi pada anak usia sekolah. Pada masa pandemi ini, terdapat keterbatasan dalam memberikan edukasi secara langsung di lingkungan sekolah. Tujuan kegiatan ini yaitu  dengan pemberian edukasi kepada guru mengenai kesehatan gigi, sehingga dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan para guru dan diharapkan para guru dapat menjadi penggerak dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan mengenai kesehatan gigi pada anak usia sekolah. Metode penyuluhan dilakukan dengan pemberian materi dalam bentuk presentasi power point secara daring melalui aplikasi zoom dan penggunaan alat peraga kesehatan gigi. Hasil penyuluhan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan mengenai kesehatan gigi. Setelah dilakukan penyuluhan dengan metode ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa alat peraga dianggap efektif dalam membantu keberhasilan pendidikan kesehatan gigi serta meningkatkan pemahaman dan antusias para guru TK. Kata kunci: kesehatan gigi, alat peraga, guru TK, karies gigi  ABSTRACT A dental health problem that often occurs in school-age children is caries. Lack of knowledge about dental health causes high caries rates in children. Children at school age tend to imitate the behavior of their teachers so that teachers play a role in increasing knowledge of dental health in school-age children. During this pandemic, there are limitations to providing education directly in the school environment. The aim of this activity is to provide education to teachers about dental health. So that it can increase the knowledge of teachers and it is hoped that teachers can be a pioneer in increasing knowledge about dental health in school-age children. The method was carried out by providing material in the form of an online powerpoint presentation through zoom application and the use of dental health teaching aids. The result of this activity showed an increase in knowledge about dental health. After conducting counseling, it can be concluded that the use of teaching aids is effective in contributing to the success of dental health education and increasing the understanding and enthusiasm of kindergarten teachers.  Keywords : dental health, teaching aids, kindergarten teachers, dental caries

Abstract

Background: The normal setting of alginate impression materials will reach setting time in about 2 to 4½ minutes.The setting time will affect the length of treatment in dental treatment. The aims of this study is to identify the influence of storage condition such as temperature and air humidity on the setting time of alginate impression materials. Materials and  Methods: This study was an experimental laboratory. Nine testing groups of alginate impression materials were repacked into plastic with sealed closed containers and plastic without sealed open containers stored in refrigerator (temperature 7o C) and room (temperature 28o C) for 3 and 5 weeks. The setting time was measured for each group using penetrometer Results: The results of one-way ANOVA statistical analysis (p<0.05) and post hoc LSD (p<0.05) data showed significant differences in setting time for each storage condition. Setting time of alginate impression materials without sealed in temperature 28oC for 5 weeks was faster than other storage condition. Conclusion: Contamination of air humidity and changes in temperature affect the setting time of alginate impressions tested in this study.

Abstract

Background: Surface roughness at restoration and the tooth surface can be caused by the routine activity of brushing and abrasive materials contained in toothpaste. Surface roughness causes bacterial colonization and affects oral and dental health. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of the use of a toothbrush and toothpaste child against GIC and compomer surface roughness. Method: This study was an experimental laboratory. Comparison of surface roughness using surface roughness tester before and after brushing on 2 group samples of GIC and compomer with speed of 1 mm/sec and a load of 200 grams, which is assumed as the pressure when brushing teeth. Results: The results of paired t-test calculations on compomer before tooth brushing were 0.3468 ± 0.8801 μm and after brushing was 2.9528 ± 0.7252 μm with p = 0.001 (p <0.05). While the results of the roughness test data at the surface of SIK before tooth brushing was 0.7314 ± 0.3810 µm and after brushing was 3.2102 ± 0.9522 µm with p = 0.003 (p <0.05). The result showed that there is a significant difference in surface roughness of SIK and compomer before and after brushing significantly. Unpaired t-test was performed on both test groups (p = 0.058: p> 0.05) showed no significant difference between surface roughness at SIK and compomer restorations Conclusion: The use of abrasive in toothpaste and tooth brushing routine caused surface roughness at GIC and Compomer restorations. The surface roughness value on both of the restoration materials was higher after simulating tooth brushing.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Resin akrilik heat cured merupakan material kedokteran gigi yang sering digunakan untuk pembuatan basis gigi tiruan lepasan. Salah satu kelemahannya adalah mudah menyerap air yang dapat meningkatkan porositas. Derajat keasaman (pH) pada minuman kemasan dapat meningkatkan porositas sehingga kekasaran basis gigi tiruan akan meningkat. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsumsi minuman kemasan dengan variasi derajat keasaman terhadap kekasaran basis gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan resin akrilik. Metode: Penelitian eksperimental laboratoris ini menggunakan 20 sampel resin akrilik heat cured berukuran 20 10 3 mm yang dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok. Setiap kelompok direndam selama 5 dan 15 hari dalam 5 ml larutan minuman yang memiliki variasi derajat keasaman berbeda (aquades pH 7, kopi pH 6.5, minuman buah  pH 3.7, dan minuman bersoda pH 2.5). Pengukuran kekasaran permukaan dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah perendaman pada bagian tengah permukaan poles dengan titik pengukuran yang sama sebanyak tiga kali setiap sampel menggunakan alat surface roughness testers. Hasil: Data yang diperoleh pada pengukuran kekasaran permukaan ini dianalisis menggunakan Kruskal-Wallis H dengan hasil analisis menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p>0.05) setelah perendaman selama 5 dan 15 hari. Kesimpulan: Tidak terjadi peningkatan kekasaran permukaan pada basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik heat cured yang telah dilakukan pemolesan dengan baik secara signifikan akibat mengkonsumsi minuman kemasan.

Abstract

Background : Mucocele can be caused by mucus extravasation and mucus retention phenomenon. Mucocele on the lower lip due to mechanical trauma, such as the habit of biting the lower lip, causing a bulge that causes discomfort. Mucoceles are often found in pediatric and adolescent patients. Micro marsupialization is a non-surgical procedure that can be performed on pediatric patients . This procedure is simpler to perform, minimally invasive, and well tolerated by the patient.. Case report : A 6-year-old boy came with complaints of a red bulge with bluish edges, 4 mm in diameter on the lower lip that caused discomfort. The bulge has only been noticed since 2 weeks ago. Patient has a habit of biting his lower lip so that the bulge gets bigger. Patient has a history of fear to surgery and showed anxiety during examination. . Micro-marsupialization was performed and patient was instructed to eliminate the habit of biting lower lip and to maintain his oral health. Conclusion : Micro marsupialization in mucocele cases shows good results of treatment in pediatric patients who have a history of fear to surgery.
