This article discusses three main problems are related to the preparation of boarding schools (pesantren) to become the center of Muslim civilization in the global era. Firstly, it is releated to the existence of pesantren in Indonesia. Secondly, deals with opportunities and challenges of pesantren to become center of civilization in the global era. Thirdly, these things must be prepared by pesantren to be the center of Muslim civilization. Study in this article is the normative descriptive analysis which is result of in-depth review of the literature related with pesantren and civilization. Historical facts show and proved that until now pesantren can still exist as a place of education for society and survived, even able to keep rhythm of turnaround of time. There is tremendous opportunity to make pesantren as a center of Muslim Civilization in Indonesia in the global era. However, there are many challenges too. Therefore, it is necessary preparations of the pesantren to capture these opportunities and overcome all challenges. These Preparations are, laid of core or foundation of civilizations, development paradigm of thinking civitas of pesantren, mastery and development of modern science and development of higher education institution of pesantren (ma'had Aly).

The Pesantren Persatuan Islam that formed in 1936, is one of the private educational institutions in Indonesia. Until 1999, this institution has 154 educational institutions spread all over Indonesia. Although the current views of Islamic politics in Indonesia Persatuan Islam is not the mainstream, because he was small and not strong, but its contribution to Islam in Indonesia should also be taken into account. The internal contributions of Pesantren Persatuan Islam can be seen from the aspect of indoctrination, that this institution is an event-style formulation of the Persatuan Islam religious understanding. Then externally, the contribution of Pesantren Persatuan Islam can be viewed in terms of institutions, namely the institutional system, called pesantren. Unlike boarding institution in the traditional understanding, for the Pesantren Persatuan Islam are synonymous with modernity, that is still oriented “boarding-centric”, but with adaptive and accommodative attitude towards the development of science and technology originating from the West. With such institutional concept, Pesantren Persatuan Islam successfully gave birth to thousands of Muslim volunteers who spread to all parts of Indonesia. Number of Pesantren Persatuan Islam spread over almost the whole of Indonesia was already assured a large contribution to the strengthening of Islamic education in Indonesia.

Salah satu dari komponen pembelajaran adalah kurikulum yang mendukung keberhasilan aktivitas pembelajaran. Kurikulum memiliki peranan yang penting karena bagian ini mengatur proses pembelajaran mulai dari perencanaan sampai dengan evluasi. Oleh karena pentingnya peranan kurikulum, agar lembaga pendidikan mengakomodir tuntutan perubahan sosial, maka harus selalu dikembangkan muatanya. Dalm dunia pendidikan Islam, perkembangan saat ini menunjukkan bahwa banyak pondok pesantren yang ketat menjaga tradisi dari generasi ke generasi tanpa merubah dan mengembangkan dan yang terjadi mereka hanya dapat bertahan. Tetapi ada juga pondok pesantren yang berupaya merancang cara tersendiri dengan harapan hasilnya lebih baik dalam waktu singkat. Jenis dari pondok pesantren ini merancang kurikulum berdasarkan kebutuhan pelajar secara umum di tengah-tengah masyarakat. Apapun motifnya hal tersebut merupakan dinamika dari lembaga pendidikan pondok pesantren yang berpengaruh besar kendatipun kadangkala tertinggal dalam hal teknologi. Perlu ditelaah tentang aktualitas kurikulum pondok-pondok pesantren pada saat ini sehingga eksistensi akan terus terjaga sesuai dengan kebutuhan masyarakat dan manusia pada umumnya.

This study was developed from the results of in-depth research that aims to explain the contribution modernity of Kyai and their implications for entrepreneurship education in boarding schools (Pontren). The research approach used is a quantitative approach on the Boarding School Cooperatives (Koppontren) in Tulungagung District. The results showed that modernity indicated with the attitudes of Kyai with individual characteristics of modernity can increase the performance of Koppontren. That is, if a Kyai has attitudes and performs activities that lead to the advancement either for himself or other people included Koppontren, the existence of Koppontren can be enjoyed by the members.

This paper discusses the strategic role of boarding schools that have been marginalized in the national education system and global challenges towards economic independence. In today's era of globalization need to reform schools curriculum to adapt to the progress of free market economics and Islamic economics to economic independence will be achieved. Hence, economic institutions at the seminary need to be empowered.

Purpose of this article is pesantren in political constellation in indonesia, especially about cultural politic to floating mass, case study traditional pesantren Jamiahtun, Tangerang Banten. To collect field data, qualitatitive method was used by implementing participatory observation, in depth interview and library research. Investigation result is: relation between kiai and santri in Pesantren Jamiatun (PJ) is patron client. The interpretation and the use of religious doctrines in the PJ are carried out intensively and continuously in a quite long period by the religious elites so that conditions are established to facilitate the merger of the religious heavenly idealism of the followers and the idealism and the interest, of the elites which include some practical wordly political interest. In this research the pesantren was studied as phenomena of its kind which function as a floating mass in a culture political.

This paper mainly discusses 24 character strengths of students who learn in some Islamic Boarding Schools, particularly their strengths and weaknesses. The object of research was students staying at boarding house and actively studying in some universities of Yogyakarta. Total of respondents was 100 students of 62 males and 38 females. The data analysis was conducted through Value in Action– Inventory Strength method (VIA-IS). The result shows that five strong characters possessed by students were gratitude, kindness, citizenship, fairness and hope. On the other hand, their weakest ones were self regulation, bravery, creativity, perspective and sense of humor.

Pesantren has a long history, since before independence and still exist today. Zamakhsary Dhofier in his book "Tradisi Pesantren" indicates that the boarding school kept changing his way, reinforced by the statement of HAR Gibb and Snouck Hurgronjo about such changes. Actually what is happening in the development indicated boarding school, both pesantren in Java and outside Java, such as in Aceh. This article discusses the Islamic boarding schools (or pondok pesantren) in Indonesia and its role to de-radicalization of Islamic thought. Pondok pesantrens have developed within the framework of a relatively unique and have a different characters compared to similar education institutions in other countries. It’s mainly caused of the nature of peace that is felt when Islam entered the country. It implies on the peaceful nature of Islam in most of the existing pondok pesantrens, including its contributions to the nation. Eventough at current circumstance some pondok pesantrens have radicalization understanding that impact on terrorism in Indonesia, it should be placed in the context of the transnational Islamic movements around the world. This article also emphasizes the importance of strengthening the role of government in an effort to de-radicalization of Islam through pondok pesantrens with the institutional strengthening of this Islamic educational institutions in the form of program to support community empowerment to break the chain of radicalization movement.

This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of Practical Journalism as media development potential of students in boarding school student Hashim Ash'ari Yogyakarta. The results showed: (1) Practical Journalism schools are activities that are categorized as semi-autonomous schools curriculum that aims to develop the potential of students of authorship in the media. Learning methods used are lecture-dialogue-assignment. Strategy adopted there are three things: provoke the onset of motivation to write the first and second introducing practical theories (which are directly related to the practice), and a third practice and actualization of the work. (2) efforts to develop the potential of authorship through Practical Journalism can be said to succeed termuatnya reflected in the writings of the students in various media, whether it is national or local scale. With this success, indirectly from the boarding schools have done improfisasi methodology and combines the elements of job-related skills (vocational) with scientific development.
