Abstract

Introduction: The program to improve the hand hygiene of health workers has been declared by WHO through a patient safety program that sparked the Global Patient Safety Challenge "clean care is safe care". Hand hygiene practice, health workers may use the gel or liquid form of hand sanitizer with alcohol-based ingredients. However, alcohol is flammable, causing dryness and irritation of the skin on repeated use and increases the risk of viral infections that trigger inflammation of the digestive tract. Objectives:  Researcher would like to find any difference on allergic reaction between the use of hand sanitizer gel and liquid form which were commonly used by nurses at RSU Karsa Husada Batu during hand hygiene practice. Methods:  The research design used is a survey research with a cross sectional approach where the researcher observes the research subjects using a check list and questionnaire, with a sample of 80 respondents. The data analysis used non-parametric statistics Mc-Nemar test. Results: The results of the Mc-Nemar Test showed a p value of 0.033 < 0.05 which means that the use of hand sanitizer gel and liquid has a significant difference in the allergic reaction among nurses. Conclusions:  Hand sanitizer in gel or liquid form were safe as long as use correctly and properly, also selecting a type of hand sanitizer must be matched with the individual skin

Abstract

Introductions: The HIV/AIDS endemic infected millions worldwide in 2019. Indonesia reported a very significant case of the disease, where East Java occupies the fourth position out of all the provinces. People who suffer from this disease (ODHA) are often associated with a poor quality of life. Family support is needed to control the patient's disease and improve the patient's quality of life. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and the quality of life of seroconcordant HIV patients. Methods: The study design used cross-sectional with a sample of 36 seroconcordant PLHIV patients and 32 people who met the inclusion criteria (living with family, married, and registered at the Sumenep District Health Center). The data collection instrument used the "family support" questionnaire and WHOQL-HIV Bref. The collected data were analyzed using the Rank Spearman technique at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The results of this study showed that more than half of the respondents (59.4%) received "good" family support; the majority of respondents (78.1%) have a “fairly good” quality of life; and there is a significant relationship between the two variables as evidenced by the p-value = 0.002 which has a "strong" relationship strength as evidenced by the correlation coefficient = 0.520 and has a unidirectional relationship as evidenced by the positive correlation coefficient. The more family support is improved, the quality of life of the respondents will increase. Conclusion: There is a significant, strong, and one-way relationship between family support and the quality of life of seroconcordant HIV patients. Families should increase their support for HIV patients to improve their quality of life in everyday life.

Abstract

Introduction: Family nursing courses ensure students understand and apply relational care approaches. Objectives: This study examines the effects of family nursing virtual learning on family nursing practices among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bandung, Indonesia. Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study of a single group with pre-test and post-test measurements. One hundred sixty-two students who took family nursing subjects participated in this study. The family nursing virtual learning lasted 14 weeks, consisting of lectures, case studies, research tasks, and practicum. The questionnaire consisted of practical appraisal and nurse-family relationship subscales. It was measured using a ten-item instrument with response formats from 1 to 5 to indicate high to low. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to analyse the effect. Results: The ages of students ranged from 19-23 years, with a median of 20 (IQR = 0), and most were female (90.1%). Results showed significant differences between the pre-test and post-test with total scores of family nursing practice of (p < 0.00). Two subscales of family nursing practice also showed substantial differences in the post-test after 14 weeks of family nursing virtual learning: the practical appraisal and nurse-family relationship (p < 0.00). Conclusions: Family nursing virtual learning benefits undergraduate nursing students' family nursing practice competence.

Abstract

Introduction: So as to account for the implementation, Indonesian nurses must be able to provide comprehensive, independent in nursing care. Objectives: This study aims to determine how using standard nursing terminology affects the quality of nursing documentation. Methods: This study employs a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent groups and no control group. All room nurses at the Kaliwates General Hospital in Jember participated in the research. Sampling strategy based on total sampling using the non-parametric Wilcoxon test, a questionnaire was analyzed as the instrument. Results: The p-value of the results was 0.000. After training and assistance with filling out nursing documentation, the quality score for filling out nursing documentation improves. High-quality nursing documentation promotes structured, consistent, and successful communication. Inadequate nurse-to-nurse communication causes care discontinuity and mistakes. Implementing standard Indonesian nursing terminology has several ramifications. Conclusions: Standard nursing language terminology has a significant impact on improving the quality of nursing documentation based on Indonesian Nursing Standards (diagnosis, outcome, and intervention). Hospitals are expected to establish nursing documentation standards and conduct regular monitoring.

Abstract

Introduction: The problem of nutritional status on toddlers is still one of the world’s problems that must continue to be resolved, such as stunting. Stunting, or being too short for one’s age, is defined as below -2 standard deviations from the median height-for-age z-score. Stunting can directly be affected by infectious disease and incomplete immunization such as basic measles immunization. Objectives: This research aims to determine and analyze the correlation between giving basic measles immunization and nutritional status, especially the incidence of stunting on toddlers. Methods: This research was an observational analytic study using a cross-sectional approach with non-probability sampling. The samples were 134 toddlers who were 12-36 months, were not sick, and have the KIA/KMS book. Basic measles immunization and nutritional status were dependent variables whereas stunting prevalence was an independent variable. Data analysis used the Spearman’s Rho correlation test with α = 0.05. Results: The results showed the majority of toddlers experienced nutritional status problems especially stunting (51.5%) and the majority of toddlers had received basic measles immunization (67.9%). Based on the Spearman’s Rho statistical test, obtained p-value = 0.003 (p-value < 0.05) with correlation coefficient (r) = -0.251. Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between basic measles immunization and nutritional status, especially in the incidence of stunting. This finding suggests that the local government should initiate an innovative program of health education focusing on knowledge and prevent the increasing stunting such as by collaborating with the nursing profession which can act as a good educator and caregiver.

Abstract

Introduction: Public awareness of the need to practice Islam in all aspects of life is increasing, including in health services. High motivation of the hospital in implementing Islamic health services has not been followed by clinics which are under Muhammadiyah charity businesses. Objectives: This study aimed to describe Islamic values at the Muhammadiyah Clinics in Lamongan Regency. Methods: The researchers used a descriptive method with a survey approach. All nurses at eleven Muhammadiyah Clinics in Lamongan Regency were selected to be the sample using purposive sampling. Seventy-one health workers filled out a 21-item-questionnaire on the application of Islamic values which had been modified by the researchers. The data were analysed by using descriptive analysis. Results: The application of Islamic values by health workers in the Muhammadiyah clinics was categorized poor (42.3%), and good (35.2%). The analysis of instrument items showed a low mean value in guiding prayer activities before surgery (1.67), reminding the spiritual guidance officers to make visits to the room (1.69), and giving prayer guidance to patients by the spiritual guidance officers (1.79). A high mean value was obtained for having prayer facilities/mosque (4.00), employees who prayed 5 times a day (3.96), and employees who recited bismillah for every medication and medical procedure (3.94). Conclusions: The role of the spiritual guidance officers at the clinic is very important to help fulfil spiritual needs and increase patient comfort. Clinic facilities that support the formation of an Islamic atmosphere need to be maintained, including monitoring employee attitudes and behaviour in daily life in accordance with Islamic teachings. The application of Islamic values can be an attraction for people in choosing a place to get health services.
