Abstract

This research was classroom action research (CAR) which focuses on the implementation of audio-visual media in the classroom. The method in this study was qualitative descriptive that used by the Kemmis and Mc Taggart method which involves four components, such as: (1) Planning (2) Action (3) Observation and (4) Reflection. The object of this research were students collage at the second semester. Total participants in this study were 11 students. The researcher was a subject (researcher and actor in the study). The implementation of Audio-visual media were carrying out for 3 cycles. The result of this application were increasing English language skill with the right language rule. By using Audio Visual, the students directly imitated the speaker's language style, such as; conversation, pronunciation, accent, mimicking, gestures, intonation, the use of words and sentences that used on communication. This result support with previous research that reading, listening, seeing and practicing will be easier to remember and learn. By using audio-visual media, it can mediate learning to master the four components in scientific understanding in learning English language.

Abstract

At the university Ibrahimy Sukorejo, the researcher found that many students still get difficulty learning speaking skills in class, especially in the first semester. The lecturer had already done so much direct research but still didn’t find a perfect way in solving the problem for the student. This research was taken at Ibrahimy University Sukorejo and used the Class action research (CAR) Method. To collect the data, the researcher used the value of the test. the researcher directly got in touch with students. The researcher gave the pre-test and post-test to know the student’s speaking ability. The test is taken from an oral test because it measures speaking ability. As shown in the research of the fourth meeting the student’s assessments showed that the student’s speaking proficiency progressed. Many students, who were at level 2 in the previous meeting, could reach level 3 in the last cycle. The amounts were 21 students. The rest were 9 students at level 3+.

Abstract

Reading is the action of extracting meaning from a text or passage and obtaining information from the author. Speaking is the practice that using words to interact with others. Than English language learning is a behavior that tends to have relative provisions and produces strong actions. The problem that discussed are focused on reading and speaking skills because students felt unconfident to read and speak English and them afraid of making mistakes in English learning. This research used quantitative correlation design to approach the data. The population was 642 students’ at the first grade in SMA Ibrahimy sukorejo. The sample selected as many as 62 students in the study was carried out using a side-by-side purposive technique while data collection was carried out by tests and observations the data analysis used Pearson product moments to analyze the relationship between reading and speaking skills with learning English in class 1 socio IV at SMA Ibrahimy Sukorejo of Situbondo. The research's findings indicate that students' reading and speaking skills have a positive and correlation significant of English learning and alternative hypothesis is accepted. Based on The score sig 1.000 ≤ 0.05. The Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted based on the results of the hypothesis testing, and based on the output of the analysis of the Pearson formula in SPSS, it has a significant score (Sig) of 0.24 and 1.000. Score Sig 0.05 indicates that the independent variable has an impact on the dependent variable. It shows there is a correlation between reading and speaking skills in the first grade of social 4 at SMA Ibrahimy Sukorejo students learning English as a foreign language.

Abstract

This article aims at knowing whether there is significant correlation between reading motivation and reading comprehension ability of the third semester students of English Language Teaching Department of University of Islam Malang or not. The research design in this study is quantitative research in the form of correlation design. The subject of this study was 33 students. The researcher developed two research instruments; a questionnaire to measure students’ reading motivation and a test of reading to measure reading comprehension ability. The finding indicated that there was a positive correlation between students’ reading motivation and their reading comprehension ability because the coefficient correlation obtained showed on the table was 0.497. It can be concluded that the correlation between those two variables was on moderate correlation. The coefficient correlation obtained from the computation was significant because r observed was higher than the r critical (0.497 > 0.344).

Abstract

In this neo culture technology, the role of technology and media, then becomes very large in the 21st century learning process and its various implications. In learning process may vary between teachers, technology, and media. This study aims to determine the influence of Quizizz learning material-based educational games on the performance of junior high school students in foreign language dormitories at Language Boarding House (LBH) Salafiyah Syafi’iyah Sukorejo. This research used a non-equivalent group, a post-trial semi-experimental research design, it is an examination of learning activities in the form of actions that deliberately appeared and occur in the class simultaneously. Collection of the data techniques were done by tests and questionnaire. The use of Quizizz educational game-based learning materials is effective in improving the academic achievement of Intermediate Foreign Language Boarding (LBH) students. It is proven by the t count’s value (3.373) > t table (2.160). The results of the effective use of Quizizz educational game-based learning media are high/good on the learning outcomes of Intermediate Language Boarding House (LBH) students. It is indicated by the percentage of students with scores greater than or equal to 80 is 43% percent and the percentage of students with scores greater than or equal or equal to 70 is 86%. And the percentage of student response questionnaires shows that 71% of student responses are very good and 29% are good.

Abstract

students can be classified as smart if they are good at speaking English Many studies have been carried out to improve students' speaking skills and still do not get promising results. In this study, the researcher will try to teach speaking by using media audiovisual. there is an effect of audiovisual on speaking ability from the calculation of the mean of the pre-test and The post-test which shows a change in the calculation of the mean pre-test value and post-test value the interval point in the pre-test table is 60-67 or 32% of the student in the class and the post-test table, the interval score is 85-87 with 28% of students in the class. It shows the improvement in the score of the student. So the treatment can improve the student's understanding in the class. in questioner also show a positive response from the student that answer mostly satisfying answers to all questions.

Abstract

This research is based on the problem of the importance in analyzing the materials for teaching, especially in listening courses. In this case, the selection and preparation of teaching learning will be important for learning process by transfering a knowledge to students. It has to always increase to make a new innovation and high quality in teaching learning process. One of its functions is to create the teaching learning atmosphere will be full of variations in learning materials. It means that the materials of teaching should be depend on the needs and also the conditions of the learner. This research was conducted in the listening class at the 2nd semester for listening course of the social and humanities faculty. The subjects in this research were 20 students of the English education department. The material provided in the form of video and audio related to an American dialect and British English Style. The material was presented by watching a kind of video, audio that related with an American and British English style, after that the students try to listen carefully, understand a kind of an accent and dialect of American and also British English style, than finally the students can give their perception of the dialect and accent of American and British style. While the research method of this study is a qualitative method with interview techniques.

Abstract

Pronunciation was one of difficult skill, it made many people confused. This research aimed to determine a solution by using mind mapping phonetic symbol media to eliminate the confusion of pronunciation. The content of mind mapping showed the part of phonetic symbol to study the sound of words. It has helped the understanding of some difference sounds. This research used quantitative true-experimental method by pre-posttest control group design. The tests carried out are validity, reliability, descriptive analysis, and t-test. Subject of this research is 30, it was divided 15 students for experiment group and 15 control group. The sample was taken by using random sampling and applied Slovin formula. While, the data was obtained by using reading test. The value of descriptive analysis there was a raising value which can be seen from mean post-test experiment group 72 it was higher than control group 36.6. And also, the quarrel of normal gain between experiment group and control group showed 75%>28.57%, 3 students from experiment group than a student of control group. Furthermore, the value of t-test was there was an influence to eliminate the confusion of pronunciation by using mind mapping phonetic symbol, it can be seen from the trials that have been tested in SPSS obtaining a t-count value of 8,290 > 1,7, it can be said that H0 is rejected and Ha accepted which it means that There is an influence of mind mapping phonetic symbol media (X) to eliminate the confusion of pronunciation (Y).
