Abstract

The role of Islamic modernization as the basis of democracy in Indonesia. Against the backdrop of sensitive ethnic, linguistic, religious and geographic diversity, this country requires a wise approach to maintain unity and integrity. The author links democracy with the modernization of Islam, discusses the history of democracy in Islam, especially during the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, and links it to the concept of the caliphate. In the context of Indonesian democracy, research highlights restrictions on government action, tolerance, equality before the law, free elections, freedom of political parties, respect for people's rights, and respect for minority rights. This research criticizes the view that democracy only succeeds after an era of authoritarianism, while trying to raise public awareness about their role in maintaining democracy. The research discusses the risks of political Islamization in the democratic party in Indonesia. This is highlighted as a challenge to the modernization of Islam, where Islamic political parties are often misunderstood as sources of radicalism. However, research emphasizes that the modernization of Islam as a pillar of democracy must be directed at tolerance, social justice, and a positive relationship between Islamic religion and politics, without ignoring the risk of political Islamization which could damage democracy. This research concludes that Indonesia needs a democratic approach based on Islamic modernization to achieve unity, tolerance and social justice. However, it is necessary to avoid the politicization of Islam which has the potential to damage stability and democracy.

Abstract

Introducing the history of Indonesian independence to children is not an easy matter, considering that if you talk about history, what you definitely know is the long plot and events. Introduction to the history of Indonesian independence, in a fun way to foster good nationalist values in children from an early age. The aim is for young children to feel the meaning of struggle from simple actions. We know that children's learning methods must be adapted to their characteristics. The aim of the research will be to briefly describe how the introduction of stories of struggle increases the value of nationalism in children. The research design will use narrative/historical qualitative research, namely trying to find and describe narratively the activities carried out and the impact of the actions taken. This research will be carried out at the ABA VII Kindergarten, Kediri City with research subjects of 30 children aged 4-6 years. Collection techniques are observation, interviews and document analysis. Meanwhile, in analyzing the data, data triangulation, member checking and auditing techniques were used, as well as data analysis techniques according to Miles & Huberman, namely data reduction, data display and conclusions. The research results show that instilling nationalist values based on the story of the nation's struggle can be done through planning play activities starting from playing learning videos, designing Heroes' Day project activities and telling stories from books/pictures about the names of heroes as well as direct practice of visiting heroes' graves. Recommendations from research results should be developed other than during Heroes' Day so that we can see the continuity of children's understanding through activities to foster nationalism.

Abstract

Enhancing rice production in rural Indonesian communities requires comprehensive community development approaches that address technical, social, and economic constraints. This qualitative study examined community development initiatives aimed at improving rice harvest yields (dedeng panen) among farmers in Karang Rejo Village, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province. Through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory observation with 45 farmers and 12 key community stakeholders over a six-month period, this study explored multidimensional challenges and opportunities in rice productivity enhancement. The findings revealed that successful rice yield improvement requires integrated interventions to address technical knowledge gaps, input accessibility, infrastructure development, and institutional strengthening. Community-based approaches demonstrated significant improvements in rice productivity (38.1% increase in yield per hectare), farmer income (62.5% increase), and overall food security (30.8% improvement). The study identified critical success factors, including farmer group empowerment, agricultural extension services, demonstration plots, and improved access to quality input and credit facilities. These findings contribute to the understanding of effective community development strategies for sustainable agricultural improvement in Indonesian rural contexts, emphasizing the importance of participatory approaches that build local capacities while addressing systemic production constraints
