Abstract

This research  was conducted to examine speech act in the video script of Lampu Islam Youtube Channel. The edition of the video is entitled An Atheist Converting to Islam. This study aims to answer the problem about the classification of speech act found in the video script. This research applied the theory of speech act proposed by Austin and further developed by Searle. There are three types of speech act. The classification involves locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary acts. The result of the research shows that all the type of Speech Act can be found in the video script. The utterances which belong to locutionary act reach four (4) occurrences. For illocutionary, there are two (2) utterances. Then, the utterances of perlocutionary acts occur most dominantly with sixteen (16) occurrences. Perlocutionary act reaches 62.5% occurrences in the video script. From the analysis, it can be concluded that the script is intended to give an effect to the listeners of the channel and to offer ideas to other people.

Abstract

The research is concerned with types of adultery based on the plot giving pictures of immoral behavior of some of the major characters committing adultery. Some of them are married, and some are not. They are brave and not ashamed of doing this immoral deed because they are not close to the doctrine of their own religion that prohibits them doing this shameful behavior. They do not even seem to be afraid of doing something which is regarded as a very sinful deed. Adultery is a sexual relationship in which a man or women has with another partner rather than his/her own spouse. Adultery is seen as a great sin in the society. Adultery maliciously interferes with marriage relations, and sometimes opens the door to divorce. (Dillon, 2016). The research is conducted using descriptive qualitative method designed to obtain information which is concerned with the current status of phenomena that occur naturally. (Ary, 1972). The results show that there are three types of adultery committed by the major characters: Visual, Mental and Physical Adulteries.

Abstract

The aims of writing this research are to analyze about the use of particles in language and also the shift of words from one position to another one and they become what are called sentence insistence or sentence emphasis in Karo Language. The method of this research is by using descriptive research or library research. The analysis elaborates all types of insistence that can give effect to the meanings of the sentences which can be divided into 5 (five) types, such as: word stress, clauses in contradiction, the use of passive voice and the shift of words from one place to another one. The conclusion of this research shows the aspects of discussion such the types of insistence and how the meanings are found or described.

Abstract

Abstract  If Tomorrow Comes, a novel written by Sydney Sheldon, is a story of intrigue and revenge. Tracy Whitney is a young, beautiful and intelligent woman and about to marry a wealth man until, suddenly, she is betrayed, framed by a ruthless Mafia gang, and then abandoned by the man she loves. Only her ingenuity saves her and helps her fight back. The significant theme of the novel is suffering, which is the focus of the study with two major points of discussion: the causes and the effects of suffering, subdivided into avarice and loss of trust as a part of the first major point and courage, revenge and hypocrisy as the second major one. The study is conducted with descriptive qualitative method proposed by Dawson (2004) pointing out that qualitative descriptive research is appropriately used to analyze social phenomena. The result shows that the protagonist, Tracy Whitney, faces a lot of suffering from the beginning of the story; that is from the tragic of her mother’s death till she is out of jail. All the sufferings are triggered by avarice of a small group of bandits of white collars having a great personal interest who stand against Tracy and loss of trust from her fiancé, the one whom she expects to be with her in time of difficulty. Owing to her sufferings, Tracy becomes strong mentally but she also turns to be revengeful woman of significant hypocrisy. Keywords: suffering, avarice, trust, courage, revenge and hypocrisy.

Abstract

The problem of the research was the effectiveness and feseabilty of animation-based teaching material on explanation text on grade XI students at MAN 2 Aceh Tenggara. This effectiviness was carried out by teachers and students. The product feasibility test was tested by a team of experts, namely lecturers and teachers of bahasa Indonesia. The objective of the research was to develop animation-based teaching material to find out the effectiveness of animation based teaching material, and to find out the feasibility test of animation-based teaching material on explanation text. This research used R&D method. The subjects of research were XI grades students of MAN 2 Aceh Tenggara. This research used non-test and test instruments. The result of the research indicated that the pre-test value was at a “fairly good” category and after using animation on post-test was at a “very good” category. Thus, the development of animation-based teaching material on explanation text is appropriate to be applied. Keywords: development, teaching material, explanation text, animation Abstrak Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah tingkat efektivitas dan kelayakan pengembangan materi ajar teks eksplanasi berbasis animasi pada siswa kelas XI MAN 2 Aceh Tenggara tahun pembelajaran 2018/2019. Uji efektivitas tersebut dilakukan oleh guru dan siswa sedangkan uji kelayakan produk diuji oleh tim ahli yaitu dosen dan guru bahasa Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan proses bahan ajar berbasis animasi, untuk mengetahui efektivitas bahan ajar berbasis animasi, dan untuk mengetahui uji kelayakan bahan ajar berbasis animasi pada materi ajar teks eksplanasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode R&D. Subjek penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI MAN 2 Aceh Tenggara. Penelitian ini menggunakan instrumen nontes dan tes. Hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa pengembangan materi ajar teks eksplanasi berbasis animasi menunjukkan bahwa nilai pre-tes berada pada kategori cukup baik dan setelah dilakukan inovasi pembaharuan menggunakan animasi berada pada kategori sangat baik. Dengan demikian pengembangan materi ajar teks eksplanasi berbasis animasi layak digunakan dalam pengembangan bahan ajar. Kata kunci: pengembangan, materi ajar, teks eksplanasi, animasi

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan komik dalam pengajaran teks deskriptif. penelitian ini dilakukan dalam desain eksperimental. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA Methodist Berastagi. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah empat puluh siswa kelas X SMA. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan dua kelompok secara acak yaitu Kelompok Eksperimen dan Kelompok Kontrol. Kelompok Eksperimen diajar dengan menggunakan komik. Komik merupakan media pembelajaran yang bertujuan untuk membuat siswa menjadi lebih aktif dalam pembelajaran bahasa dengan memberikan materi dan siswa memecahkannya dengan cara dipresentasikan. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa tes teks deskriptif tertulis. perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung (6,00) lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (2,024) pada tingkat pengaruh signifikan penggunaan komik dalam teks deskriptif menulis siswa. Jadi, disarankan bagi Guru untuk menggunakan komik dalam pengajaran menulis teks Deskriptif.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of abbreviations and acronyms in communication by social media users. Therefore, the problem in this research is focused on the formation of abbreviations and acronyms in communication on social media. Data collection was carried out by visiting 20 accounts on social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Whatsapp Groups and collecting forms of abbreviations and acronyms used by social media users. The data from this study are forms of abbreviations and acronyms that have been collected from social media. Furthermore, the data were analyzed qualitatively referring to the theory of Kridalaksana (2010). This study found that there are six forms of abbreviations and acronyms used by social media users, namely: 1. Perpetuation of the first letter of each component, 2. Perpetuation of the first two letters of each component, 3. Perpetuation of the first three letters of each component, 4. Perpetuation of the first two letters of the first component and the first three letters of the second component, 5. The preservation of the last syllable of each component, 6. The preservation of various letters and syllables that are difficult to formulate. Furthermore, there were also two formations of abbreviations and acronyms that did not fix to the rules for the formation of abbreviations and acronyms in the General Indonesian Spelling Guidelines, namely, first, the formation of abbreviations and acronyms by preserving the letters of two or three components based on sound or pronunciation of these components. Second, the formation of abbreviations and acronyms perpetuates elements or sounds that are considered to represent the meaning of the components experiencing abbreviations and acronyms. Both of these formations are carried out by perpetuating any letters and syllables of one component that appear to have no relationship or connection with the components undergoing the process of abbreviations and acronyms.

Abstract

The East Java Ludruk show contains many moral values, and one of which contained in the East Java Ludruk text is the value of character education as the character building of the nation. This research aims to reveal moral values as the character building of the nation contained in the East Java Ludruk text by paying attention to linguistic (verbal and nonverbal) and non-linguistic (social, cultural, political, and religious) aspects by applying pragmatic learning based on critical discourse analysis so that character students can easily understand moral values found in the text of the East Jawa Ludruk. In addition, this research also aims to reveal that pragmatic learning in East Java Ludruk texts is also very important and needs to be understood by language teachers because the pragmatics emphasized in this study reveal good speech acts according to pragmatic rules, how to speak according to whom, to whom, where, and how. The results of this study indicate that human values related to the formation of the nation's character are found in the Ludruk text of East Java. In addition, the role of pragmatic learning in East Java's Ludruk text is also very important to facilitate language teachers in expressing good speech acts according to pragmatic learning rules.

Abstract

In the process of democratization in a state, the position of university students is decisive. Every student must be responsible to the society, able to see what is happening and to provide the best solutions to the societal problems as well as being a mouthpiece from the common people to the government, nation and state. In addition to developing their cognitive abilitie0s, students are required to participate actively in everything that is social in nature to foster a social spirit in the community. This picture is reflected in the political activist community in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori. The research was conducted using a literary sociology approach related to the author's relationship with society and texts revealing problems in society. The focus of the research is related to the disclosure of social phenomena. Holistically, a qualitative descriptive research method is implemented. The data source is the novel and data collection is based on documentation techniques, obtained from the novel in the forms text referring to the attitudes of the students in their struggle for reform in all areas of public life  and also based on  the content analysis techniques with an objective approach. The results of the study show that the attitudes reflected in the political activist movement are social awareness, hard work and tolerance.

Abstract

Socialization activities related to the urgency of how to speak well in conveying Islamic material well without hurting feelings or offending other religions is something very basic. The aims of PKM are (1) to increase understanding of how to speak in Islamic da'wah communication, (2) to improve understanding of the concept of Allah as Rabb for participants. The method used in socializing the lexeme "Allah" without personified language to the congregation of the Al Hikmah Mosque. prayers Medan Tembung District is lecture and discussion. Providing lectures and discussions in the implementation of this service is based on the theory of media discourse analysis by paying attention to how it should be: conveying Islamic da'wah orally regarding the lexeme Allah/Rabb, not offending other people in speaking, and speaking management as a strategy so that mosque congregants become more enthusiastic when listening to the preaching. Islam. .The results obtained in this PKM are increased understanding of how to speak in Islamic da'wah communication, (2) improved understanding of the concept of Allah as Rabb by service participants. With the implementation of this PKM, the presentation of rhetoric related to the lexeme Allah as da'wah material is more developed and interesting, and makes it easier for the audience to accept the objectives of the da'wah regarding the concept of the lexeme Allah/Rabb based on the meaning of the words in the Al-Quran Surah Al Ikhlas.
