Abstract

We now live in an era where, believing in and doing certain things are regarded by some sections of society, including students and graduates of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in Eastern Uganda, to be out of fashion and backward. Teachers of IRE are concerned about the inability of the subject to strengthen students’ faith and practice. But are their concerns justified, and if so, to what extent and under which contexts? This study sought to determine the influence of IRE learning experiences on Muslim students’ beliefs and practices. The population consisted of Senior Four and Six students from Eastern Uganda from which a sample of 890 was selected using multi-stage sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which was analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation and ANOVA. The relationship between students’ learning experiences and their beliefs was found not to be statistically significant; while that between learning experiences and their practices was statistically significant and moderate. A statistically significant difference in students’ practices among school types was also found, where students from Government Non-Muslim schools had the lowest while those from Private Islamic schools had the highest. It therefore is recommended that Islamic extra-curricular activities be organized for students to boost their knowledge and skills.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has an important role in instilling Islamic values in students. However, in practice, PAI learning is often less associated with local social and cultural realities inherent in students' lives. Integration of local culture into PAI materials is an important strategy to make learning more contextual, meaningful, and close to students' daily lives. Local culture that is full of moral values such as mutual cooperation, tolerance, politeness, and responsibility can be used as an entry point in introducing Islamic concepts. This paper discusses the importance of integrating local culture as a means to strengthen Islamic values in the educational environment. Through a contextual and dialogical approach, PAI learning becomes more inclusive and is able to shape students' characters that are rooted in Islamic values while loving their own culture. In addition, cultural integration also contributes to the preservation of local identity in accordance with Islamic principles. Innovation from teachers and policy support are needed so that this process can run effectively and sustainably. Thus, cultural integration into PAI materials is a strategic step to create education that is inclusive and relevant to the socio-cultural context of students. Collaborative efforts from various parties are needed to overcome existing challenges and optimize the potential of this integration in Islamic Religious Education learning.

Abstract

This article aims to develop gamification-based learning media in learning Islamic Cultural History (SKI) in phase D (equivalent to classes VII and IX MTs) using the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. The focus of the discussion is on analyzing development needs which include identifying media needs in learning, student characteristics, and the nature of SKI material through observation, interview and document review techniques. The results revealed that SKI learning is considered boring due to monotonous conventional methods, while students are more interested in visual and narrative material such as the historical story of the Prophet Muhammad, despite having difficulty with complex material such as the development of Islam in the archipelago; both teachers and students appreciate the potential of gamification media with elements of levels, challenges, rewards, and leaderboards to increase motivation and learning engagement. The research conclusion shows that gamification-based media can be an innovative solution to create more interesting, interactive, and meaningful SKI learning while integrating Islamic values and 21st century skills, so further development is recommended to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability in various learning contexts.

Abstract

The project to strengthen the student profile of Pancasila is one of the flagship programs introduced in the Merdeka Curriculum, which raises various themes, including the theme of local wisdom. In the implementation of the P5 local wisdom theme, its application often ignores the local wisdom in the region itself, this happens because there is no local wisdom P5 project module in a region. The richness of regional culture in the archipelago is very abundant and should be preserved to young genersai, so as not to be lost in the current of globalization. The purpose of this study was to determine the initial needs for the development of P5 project modules on the theme of local wisdom based on Aceh hiem. This study uses the research and development (RnD) method with the ADDIE model, at the needs analysis stage, data collection techniques through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Based on the analysis of the needs of schools, teachers and students, this study concludes that the development of a P5 project module on the theme of local wisdom based on Aceh hiem is needed to facilitate teachers in implementing P5 on the theme of local wisdom; help preserve Acehnese traditional literature, namely hiem, so that it is alive and sustainable in the Acehnese community; preserve the richness of Acehnese vocabulary so that the younger generation is proud and loves to speak in Acehnese language as a wealth of Aceh and the archipelago. The conclusion of this research is an optimistic step in developing an effective, valid and practical P5 project module for teachers to implement in the implementation of P5 at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Fiqh al-Akl is not merely a branch of Islamic jurisprudence concerned with the legal rulings and etiquette of food consumption; rather, it represents a paradigm for viewing food within the broader Islamic worldview. Amid the modern consumption crisis—characterized by instant foods, chemical additives, and the ambiguity of product halal certification—Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a crucial role in shaping an Islamic awareness of consumption that goes beyond legal permissibility (halal) to encompass wholesomeness (thayyib) and ethical responsibility. This article aims to explore the contribution of Fiqh al-Akl to the development of the PAI curriculum and educational strategies for fostering responsible consumption behavior. Using a qualitative library-based approach, the article emphasizes the importance of integrating values of halal, barakah (blessing), and social accountability into the teaching of Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

Conflicts that occur in Indonesia, such as the free aceh movement, the republic of South Maluku or even among fellow Islamic organizations provide an illustration as well as a sign of how fragile the multicultural-based national construction in Indonesia is. If this continues and does not receive serious attention, the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia will be at stake. For this reason, awareness of the importance of multiculturalism needs to be instilled, among others, through education, including multicultural Islamic education. This paper aims to analyze Fethullah Gulen's thoughts on multicultural Islamic education and its integration for the development of multicultural Islamic education in Indonesia. This research is a type of qualitative research which is library research with content analysis as a research approach with primary sources in the form of Gulen's writings entitled Toward a Global Civilization of Love and Tolerance and supported by several related books and scientific articles as secondary sources, including books entitled Multicultural Education: Issues and Perspectives written by James A. Banks. The results of the research show that Gulen's thoughts have colored and become an inspiration for world life. Life is often decorated with disharmony and even violence and chaos caused by a poor attitude of respect and appreciation for sunnatullah in the form of diversity and multiculturalism. It is here that Gulen offers a solution to overcome these problems through love, dialogue and tolerance. This love, dialogue and tolerance can become principles and references for the development of multicultural Islamic education in Indonesia in order to produce a young generation of Indonesian Muslims who have an attitude and spirit of respect and appreciation for differences and diversity so as to create a safe and peaceful country.
