Abstract

An antibacterial activity test of ethanol extract of white and red flesh from guava leaf (Psidium guajava. L) against S.aureus and E.coli; using agar diffusion method was carried out in order to produce the extract. The extract was collected using maceration method. The concentration of extract was 7,8125; 6,1035; 5,00; 4,8828; 4,3944; and 3,90625 mg/mL. The results showed that both of extracts had antibacterial activities. Ethanol extract of white flesh of fruit guava leaf had (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) MIC value at 5.000 mg/mL against S.aureus and 4.8828 mg/mL against E.coli. Whereas ethanol extract of red flesh of fruit guava leaf had MIC value at 4.3944 mg/mL against S.aureus and E.coli.  MIC value of ethanol extract of white flesh of fruit guava leaf is equal with MIC value of clindamicin concentration at 3.00 µg/mL against S.aureus, and 1.00 µg/mL against E.coli. The MIC value of red flesh of fruit guava leaf is equal to the MIC value of clindamicin concentration at 3.00 µg/mL against S.aureus, and 1.00 µg/mL against E.coli.

Abstract

The research about trees vegetation diversity in PT Arun NGL area had been done in December 2012. The objective of the research was to calculate the trees vegetation diversity index. The data had been collected in nine belt transects by length 400 m and  400 m2  (10 m x 40 m) plots  for each belt transect. The collecting data was  including name of species, family, density, frequency and  dominancy.  The data was analyzed to get important value and diversity index. The result showed that there were 39 tree species belongs to 23 families found in the research area.  There were three dominant species namely; Pterocarpus indicus,  Pithecelobium dulce, dan Leucaena leucocephala which had higher important value than others species that lead  influencing the ecosystem. The trees diversity index in this area was about 3,3 which interpreted this area has high diversity index. Moreover, the plants were planted in PT Arun NGL Housing Area have another function as reducing pollutant material in the air.

Abstract

Adobe Flash is a software that is used to build an interactive contents that can be attached in other things, such as presentations, games and e-learning. The Eulerian Circuit Search Instructional Media is one of examples in using Adobe Flash in building an interactive instructional media to solve graph theory problems. Visually, Adobe Flash is better than other programming software in general and it is the most suitable one for graph theory, as it uses graphics and visuals to solve problems. The weakness of Adobe Flash is when doing large scale calculations; such as when testing algorithms to find Eulerian circuits. Then an idea came about to complete the large scale calculations in Adobe Flash, which is commonly known as script time limit, with using other methodologies by changing script time limit on the settings, algorithms, partition the processes, and utulize the timers within the objects in the actionscript that handles the search algorithms of searching Eulerian circuit.

Abstract

This research conducted to identify the kinds of feed plants sumatran elephant which is the main component of elephant habitats .The purpose of this research was to obtain data about kinds of feed plants sumatran elephant and analyzes the species diversity. The study conducted with analysis vegetation use of systematic sampling methods at any community different vegetation .The research results recorded there are 75 species of  feed plants  from 269 species of plants found , which means 28%  plants in the study locations is a source of feed for sumatran elephants. The data was obtained show that the number of species to spread of  feed plants of elephant more on a community of  I , a number of 36 species of all level vegetation began to the seedling, sapling, pole and tree; while community II and III each 30 and 23 species . Community IV and V had the same number of  feed plants species, a number of 31 species . Based on the analysis of the diversity of species to feed plants  of elephant, shows that community III have index the diversity of species ( H = 4,53; Hmax = 5,17 ) higher than other locations.

Abstract

Polyurethane membrane made from Rubber Seed Oil has been produced within this research. Rubber seed oil has the hydroxyl number of  40,33 mg/g  and the iodine number of  154,05 g/g which can be used as resource clusters; -OH, in order to make polyurethane. Rubber seed oil can react with hexamethylene-1.6-diisocyanate (HDMI) as another resource cluster, which is -NCO. The production of polyurethane membrane is done by variating the composition of rubber seed oil and HDMI, with the variations of 5:1; 5:3; 5:4; 5:5 dan 5:7 (v/w) and the polymrization temperature of 90-100°C and the curring temperature of  165-170°C. The optimal polyurethane membrane is produced on the composition of 5:4 v/w  which is homogenous, dry, quite elastic and is yellowish brown in colour. The IR results showed that there were urethan bonds formed (N-H on  ν = 3300-3400 cm-1) and the TGA results from polyurethane membrane showed that there were two decompositions on 394,5oC dan 458,6oC.

Abstract

Indonesia has a lot of mining material of iron ore that could be used for various purposes in the steel industry or for other. This research, has synthesized and characterization of hematite from local iron ore from Lhoong area by precipitation mechanism. The iron ore powder was magnetic separation with magnet then mixed with HCl and NH4OH. Then, it was dried at temperature of 150 ºC and calcinated at 500º C for 2 hours. Characterizations were perfomed using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF). As the results, it was found that the magnetic separation iron ore showed the composition of Fe2O3 (95.99%), SiO2 (2.10%). Then, by precipitation mechanism, the composition of Fe2O3 found around 96.58%. Next, the synthesis result are characterized with XRD show that the main phase is dominan in iron ore of Lhoong is hematit (Fe2O3). Scherrer calculations showed that precipitation mechanism to reducing grain size, the process of magnetic separation (58.009 µm) and the precipitation mechanism (20.950 µm.)

Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum) contains organosulfur compound that plays an important role as an antibacterial and antifungal activities. Ascorbic acid or vitamine C also has been show has a good activity as an antioxidant and as an antifungal. The aims of the research is to determine the effect of the combination of petroleum ether garlic extract with vitamin C against Candida albicans. Zone of inhibition testing done by Kirby-Bauer method. The results showed that the combination of petroleum ether garlic extract with vitamin C in concentration of 50% did not show an activity significantly. Meanwhile, the activity of petroleum ether garlic extract alone at concentration of 50 and 75% showed activities towards Candida albicans with a diameter of inhibition zone are 19.46 and 27.46 mm respectively.

Abstract

One of the future technologies for a safe hydrogen storage media is  metal hydrides. Currently, Mg-based metal hydride has a safety factor and efficient for vehicle applications. However, the thermodynamic properties of magnesium hydride (MgH2) found a relatively high temperature. High desorption temperatures caused MgH2 high thermodynamic stability resulting desorption enthalpy is also high. In this study, natural mineral (iron ore) has been extracted from iron sand into powder of magnetite (Fe3O4) and used as a catalyst in an effort to improve the desorption properties of MgH2. Magnetie has been successfully extracted from iron sand using precipitation method with a purity of 85 % , where the purity of the iron sand before extracted was 81%. Then, MgH2-Fe3O4 was milling using mechanical alloying method with a variety of catalysts and milling time. The observation by XRD showed the material was reduced to nanocrystalline scale. MgH2 phase appears as the main phase. DSC test results showed with the addition of Fe3O4, the desorption temperature can be reduced up to 366oC, compared to pure pure MgH2 reached by 409o C. Furthermore, based on gravimetric test, the hydrogen release occurs at a temperature of 388o C, weight loss  of 0.66 mg during 16 minutes.

Abstract

Tourism is one of the primary sectors that is expected to increase the regional government income. Therefore there is a need to observe the factors that affect the successfulness of tourism factors and products offered. Tourism products can be tourist destinations, where the characteristics of that particular destination can affect the decisions made by the tourist to return the place again. The characteristics of tourism in Aceh can be analyzed by using biplot analysis. Meanwhile, the effects of tourism characteristics on the number of tourists in Aceh from the year 2008 until 2013 is analyzed using panel data regression analysis that is approached by Fixed Effext Model (FEM). Based on the biplot graph, the cities that are superior in their number of all tourism products are Sabang and Banda Aceh. Cities other than these two cities tend to have a lower number of their tourism products. The biplot graph can explain the relationship between the variables of tourism products by 83.8%. Based on the model of fixed effect panel data, Aceh tourism products that affect the number of tourists in Aceh is the number of accommodations, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Fixed effect model explain correlation between the variables of tourism products to the number of tourists in Aceh by 78.8%.

Abstract

TiO2/activated carbon derived from waste coffee grounds (TiO2/WCGAC) has been prepared by a sol gel method . Waste coffee ground was chemically activated using hydrochloric acid 0.1 M solution and modified with titanium tetraisopropoxide as TiO2 precursor. The structural features of the photocatalyst was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM EDX),  Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption. The XRD results showed that TiO2 is anatase and rutile phase, while FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of  Ti-O groups. The specifics surface area of TiO2/WCGAC was higher than that of activated carbon derived from waste coffee grounds. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/WGCAC has been evaluated for degradation of indigo carmine solution under UV and solar light irradiation. It was found that degradation percentage of indigo carmine under solar light was higher than that of under UV light.
