Abstract

This study examines the structural relationships among fiscal strategy, intergovernmental transfers, financial accountability, economic development performance, candidate strength, and incumbent electoral performance in local elections. The study uses secondary data from 214 Indonesian regencies and municipalities where incumbent regional heads or deputy heads ran again in the 2020 simultaneous local elections. Fiscal indicators are measured using realized local budget data and audit results from the 2019 local government budget, representing the pre-election period, while electoral performance is measured using election results and incumbent vote share. The data are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares. The findings show that candidate strength has the strongest structural relationship with incumbent electoral performance in the specified model. Among the fiscal strategies examined, only the revenue strategy shows positive structural relationships with both economic development performance and incumbent electoral performance. Expenditure strategy and intergovernmental transfers are negatively associated with economic development performance and do not show direct structural relationships with incumbent electoral performance. Financing strategy is not significantly related to either development or electoral performance. Financial accountability shows a positive structural relationship with economic development performance, but not with incumbent electoral performance. The mediation test indicates that economic development performance does not mediate the structural relationships between fiscal strategy, intergovernmental transfers, financial accountability, and incumbent electoral performance. These findings suggest that, in the specified model, incumbent electoral performance is more closely associated with candidate strength and local revenue capacity than with economic development performance as a retrospective voting mechanism.

Abstract

Employee job satisfaction remains an important human resource management issue in plantation companies because employees work under diverse operational and environmental conditions that influence their perceptions of organizational rewards and workplace quality. Despite extensive research on job satisfaction, empirical evidence regarding the relationships between rewards, work environment, and employee job satisfaction in Indonesia's plantation sector remains limited. Therefore, this study examined whether rewards and work environment are associated with employee job satisfaction at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional I Bandar Betsy. This study employed a quantitative explanatory survey involving 80 employees selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that rewards are positively and significantly associated with employee job satisfaction. Likewise, the work environment is positively and significantly associated with employee job satisfaction. Furthermore, rewards and work environment jointly explain a substantial proportion of the variation in employee job satisfaction. These findings support the applicability of Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory in the plantation-sector context by demonstrating that both organizational rewards and workplace conditions are important predictors of employee job satisfaction. Practically, the findings provide empirical evidence that may assist the management of plantation companies in developing fair reward systems and supportive workplace conditions to enhance employee job satisfaction.

Abstract

The gap between the high interest in entrepreneurship among Indonesians and the low actual entrepreneurship rate suggests that entrepreneurship education in vocational higher education lacks an ideal curriculum-based practical model to bridge this divide while simultaneously accelerating the digital transformation of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to develop and evaluate a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model integrated with an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum structure within the Digital Transformation and Technopreneurship course. A quasi-experimental approach was employed, involving 91 vocational college students in Semarang, Indonesia, over 6.5 weeks of active instruction organized into 29 groups and collaborate with 29 MSMEs. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was also conducted to examine the role of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) as a mediator between Entrepreneurial Support Clarity (ESC) and Digital Transformation Readiness Competency (DTRC). The study demonstrated a significant influence of PjBL in leveraging ESC (coefficient = 0.525; p less than 0.001) on DTRC. The PjBL implementation proved effective, with the proportion of students achieving an 'A' grade rising from 10.70 percent during the conceptual reinforcement stage to 96.40 percent during the real-project implementation stage. Achievement levels for course learning outcome indicators closely matched the established weightings, while Digital Readiness Assessment (DRA) results indicated that the partner MSMEs' digital maturity fell within Level 2 (Basic Digital). These findings confirm the relevance of the five PjBL criteria, as follows: centrality, driving questions, constructive investigation, autonomy, and realism, within the framework of Experiential Learning Theory. The study's novelty lies in the development of an implementation model that explicitly maps the integration of OBE, PjBL, and digital transformation instruments, offering both theoretical and practical contributions to entrepreneurship curriculum development in vocational higher education and the acceleration of MSME digital transformation in Indonesia.
