Abstract

ABSTRACT Women's double burden is a complex global phenomenon, where women often bear double responsibilities in both the domestic and public spheres. This research analyzes how this double burden is exacerbated by environmental responsibility and reinforced by gender inequality. Through a literature review and case studies, this research reveals the complex dynamics between gender, environment, and work, and their implications for women's well-being. Abstract

The gig economy is a result of the digital developments occurring globally. With its high level of flexibility, the gig economy has transformed the landscape of modern work. However, behind the ease and flexibility, new challenges arise concerning work-life balance. This study analyzes how the boundaries between work and personal life have become increasingly blurred for gig workers. The research method used is a literature review method. A literature review is a research method that involves collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing information from various relevant sources, such as scientific journals, books, articles, research reports, and other sources. Through literature reviews and case studies, this research identifies factors contributing to the work-life imbalance, such as high performance demands, constant accessibility, and the lack of social protection. The study concludes that a collective effort is needed from various parties, including platforms, governments, and gig workers themselves, to create a healthier and more sustainable work environment. Abstract

The tourism sector is one of the largest industrial sectors and drivers of the world economy that is vulnerable to disasters. The spread of covid-19 causes tourist destinations to rely heavily on the presence of domestic tourists, especially for safety and health reasons for the younger generation. This research aims to understand the travel decisions of the younger generation after the pandemic in domestic tourist destinations. This research is qualitative in nature with a case study approach. Researchers determined informants who are members of the Millennial Generation and Generation Z by conducting in-depth interviews and collecting secondary data through informants' personal social media. The research results are divided into three phases, namely the pre-travel phase, the phase during the trip, and the post-travel phase. The researcher concluded that after the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a change in the decision-making process of young people who were influenced by social media.

Abstract

Traditional educational methods often emphasize rote memorization and passive learning, leading to disengagement and limited critical thinking among students. The shift towards deep learning has emerged as a response to these challenges, promoting inquiry-based learning, active engagement, and personalized instruction. This study aims to analyze the Deep Learning Approach from the perspective of the Sociology of Education, examining its impact on student engagement, educational equity, and socialization. Using a literature review methodology, this research systematically collects and analyzes scholarly works published within the last six years. The findings indicate that deep learning enhances student motivation, fosters critical thinking, and contributes to a more inclusive education system. However, challenges such as technological disparities, teacher readiness, and ethical concerns surrounding data privacy remain significant barriers to implementation. Addressing these issues through collaboration between educators, policymakers, and technology developers is essential for maximizing the benefits of deep learning in education.

Abstract

The ecological crisis has become one of the most pressing global issues, triggered by the uncontrolled exploitation of nature due to capitalism and industrialization. This research aims to analyze the representation of the ecological crisis in popular culture through the film Okja (2017) by Bong Joon-ho. This film depicts the relationship between humans, nature, and animals in the context of modern capitalism, which often uses nature as a commodity for economic gain. Using a conflict theory approach in ecological sociology, this research highlights how capitalism damages ecosystems and exacerbates social injustice. In the film Okja, nature and animals are depicted as victims of exploitation by a capitalist system that does not care about ecological welfare. The conflict between economic interests and nature conservation in this film reflects the reality modern society faces. This research uses a content analysis method to explore how the film conveys ecological messages relevant to real conditions. The research results show that popular culture, especially films, has great potential in increasing public awareness of environmental issues. Okja not only offers criticism of capitalism and the exploitation of nature but also acts as an advocacy medium capable of inspiring social change in the way society views and treats the environment. Thus, this film becomes an important tool in communicating the ecological crisis and challenging society to care more about nature conservation.

Abstract

Now and for the future, the most vital issue that has emerged as an obstacle for human beings around the globe is global climate change. This is characterised by an increase in average global temperatures, increased occurrence of extreme weather conditions and more so an increase in the level of the ocean. The above impacts are alarming, especially on coastal regions as analyzed by Press (2023) where sea level rise affects coastal structure and habitats and the java north coast which is under threat by these natural forces. Indonesia has thousands of kilometer of the coastline and mainly affected with climate change impacts especially the Java northern region. Communities in the coastal areas are feeling the impacts most where impacts range from erosion of sandy beaches, intrusion of salt water into freshwater sources, tidal inundation and shifts in ecosystems with consequences on livelihoods. This research deals with understanding how these coastal communities have adjusted or responded to such changes. Employing systematic integrated review methodology, this research aims at articulating and making sense of available academic data that outlines how these communities are coping through shifts in agricultural practices, enhanced housing structures, and development of other economic opportunities. Using behaviorism theory by B.F.Skinner, the paper depicts a scientific understanding of how adaptive behaviors are maintained. The results will be useful in advising local policymakers as to the most effective strategies for improving the resilience of communities to climate change. Abstract

Waste pollution is still a classic problem that plagues Indonesia from all corners of the region. The functioning of each element in the social life of the community is an important component in maintaining environmental stability. Therefore, this research aims to understand the relationship between the environment and people. This study also discusses the role of humans in environmental management. The research method used in this research is qualitative, where data is obtained through literature studies, which are then analysed using the functional structural perspective analysis knife. The study in this discussion presents the Tri Alam Lestari Waste Bank as an interesting object of study to be researched. The results of this study show that the functioning of an element in the web of life can influence each other. Tri Alam Lestari Waste Bank and the surrounding community have carried out environmental conservation practices, which are then considered in the functional structural perspective as the functioning of an element of life. Abstract

It is very important for us to understand more deeply the relationship between humans and the universe, especially in the current era of capitalism, because reflecting on human actions reveals a significant misunderstanding of the importance of this relationship with the universe. Many people view the universe (the fruits of the earth) merely as a means to fulfill their basic needs. This capitalist system is a precursor to the condition of the universe's disequilibrium, which in practice involves extractive reinforcement and can cause significant damage to the Earth. In addition, the numerous cases of coastal reclamation and land grabbing are characteristic of the results of the current extractive capitalist system. The living space of the community has been taken over for the interests of only a few groups of people. As a result, the subordinated society does not merely remain silent in the face of such occurrences, but also demonstrates their resistance as a way to defend their living space, especially for women who often find themselves in vulnerable situations experiencing injustice in exercising their rights to power. Abstract

Body shaming is a form of verbal bullying carried out by one individual against another. It can be understood as inappropriate and harmful actions or expressions directed at physical appearance, whether towards oneself or others. If persistent, it can erode self-confidence and affect an individual's self-esteem. This study aims to determine the relationship between body shaming and self-esteem among first-year students of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Sumatera Utara. This research employs a quantitative associative correlation method with a cross-sectional approach, involving 215 first-year students selected through total sampling techniques. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. The results, analyzed using the Spearman rank test, indicated a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), signifying a significant relationship between body shaming and self-esteem among first-year students of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Sumatera Utara. The findings revealed that body shaming was at a moderate level among 163 first-year students (75.8%), while self- esteem was also at a moderate level among 165 first-year students (76.7%). It is recommended that first-year students cultivate gratitude for their body shape, view themselves positively, and offer positive affirmations to themselves and others
