Abstract

Supply chain management encompasses the study of efficiency and effectiveness in material, information, and monetary flow within the industrial sector. Assessing performance is pivotal in gauging a company's managerial capacities. At PT Otsuka Indonesia, research was undertaken during an internship, involving observations and interviews. Subsequently, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were formulated, covering aspects such as accuracy in raw material usage, precision in production level planning, frequency of production plan changes, source cycle time, finished product quality, make cycle time, delivery cycle time, precision in avoiding delays in finished goods delivery, and return of finished goods. Snorm de Boer normalization was applied to calculate the KPIs, generating performance results for each indicator. Determining the ultimate performance involved weighting via the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, assigning significance levels to each KPI. Post data processing, it was evident that the finished product quality indicator had the lowest value. Consequently, improvement proposals were designed using the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method. These proposals culminated in the development of warning sticker designs for machine cleaning, comprehensive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage, and scales rechecking.

Abstract

The fiber department is one of the departments in the PT XYZ produces bus panels and appliances. Based on the fiber production data on August 1 - September 23, 2022, there are 92 defects out of 547 products. It is important to analyze the root cause of the failure in the production process. There are seven types of defects in the manufacturing process that is, fiber is too thick or thin, the fiber surface is rough, fiber has white spots, fiber needs a long time to dry, fiber rejects (liquid/burn), the putty result is imperfect, and the paint is imperfect. The root cause analysis was conducted using Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) method. Based on FTA, defective products can be caused by human, machine, or equipment factors. From that, it will be used for improvement recommendations to improve the quality. Examples of the corrective recommendations are periodic drain engine water, emptying water form, products-checkout form, and roll-cleaning form, using a measuring cup for the catalyst, and a new container for acetone.

Abstract

The study focuses on the Supporting department, responsible for producing components for assembling minibuses, including the J type. The department faces several issues, including a 60% confusion rate in component names out of the 600 components, delays and errors in component delivery spanning 4 to 16 hours, and the absence of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Addressing these challenges necessitates the development of a material order system, tackled using the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Through SDLC analysis, solutions were derived, involving the creation of system programs, enhancing system flow, standardizing component names, grouping components into kits, establishing component catalogs, and formulating SOPs. This comprehensive solution was implemented at PTXYZ. The outcomes revealed significant improvements: standardization of component names among operators, administrators, and Microsoft GP, where 600 raw components were grouped into 98 packages, reducing delays to less than one working hour, meeting production schedules without delivery errors, and successful implementation of SOPs and catalogs facilitating the production process. Continuous monitoring is crucial to prevent the recurrence of delivery delays and name confusion.

Abstract

The welding department is the focus of this study. This department welds and assembles various materials from the warehouse and supporting departments into complete minibuses. Several issues exist, such as material delivery delays occurring 1-3 times per production process, material delivery errors, increased production lead time from 12-13 working days to 15-16 working days, and the lack of a clear SOP for material fulfillment. To address these issues, a material fulfillment system design is necessary, utilizing the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) analysis. The SDLC analysis suggests that solutions include grouping materials into kitting packages, developing system programs, improving system flow, and creating an SOP. These solutions can be directly implemented in the welding department's production process at PT XYZ. The implementation results show that materials needed by the welding department can be divided into seven kitting packages according to existing workstations. The new system flow reduces material delivery delays to less than one working hour, aligns production lead time with the company's target of 12-13 working days, reduces material delivery errors, and the implemented SOP aids all parties in the minibus production process. These measures must be consistently monitored to avoid disrupting the production process and to meet the company's production lead time targets.

Abstract

PT XYZ, a company in the agribusiness sector, operates a chick hatching production line that yields hatching eggs as its final product. Currently, the company's production process lacks standardized working hours across various crucial stations – namely, terminal, pullchick, vaccine, and packing stations. This absence of standardized hours poses a significant challenge, impacting labor productivity. Additionally, the work pace remains inconsistent among employees at these stations, resulting in unpredictable monthly fluctuations in hatching egg production, rendering it unstable. To address these challenges, the implementation of the stopwatch time study method becomes imperative. This research aims to ascertain cycle time, normal time, and establish standard working hours across the terminal, vaccine, pullchick, and packing stations. Furthermore, the goal is to standardize the work time specifically at pullchick and packing stations. The objective is to compare these standard times against the current practices to enhance worker productivity effectively. Following the research, notable improvements have been observed. The terminal station has experienced a 1-train increase in output, rising from the prior 18 trains to 19 trains. Similarly, the vaccine station has shown remarkable progress, with an output surge of 6 boxes per hour, escalating from a previous rate of 25 boxes/hour to 31 boxes/hour. These findings underline the positive impact of implementing standardized work times, indicating enhanced productivity and efficiency across these stations within PT XYZ's production process.

Abstract

Yarn manufacturing engineering stands as one of the initial phases in the textile industry and holds considerable significance in determining subsequent process qualities. PT INS specializes in producing ring spun yarn, wherein the final stage integrates an automatic yarn quality control mechanism within the winding machine. When the sensor identifies any yarn irregularity, an automatic cutting process initiates. Additionally, the winding machine incorporates a yarn splicing procedure to reconnect separated yarn ends or join yarn during cop changes. Any flaw in this splicing process can lead to a weak yarn splice, evident in the diminished Retained Spliced Strength (RSS), which in turn impacts subsequent weaving and knitting processes. PT INS encountered a yarn splicing issue, evidenced by consistently low RSS values from each spindle on its winding machines. An analysis was conducted employing various tools, including Control Charts, Fishbone Diagrams, Check Sheets, and Pareto Diagrams, to pinpoint the problematic spindle and identify the root cause of the splicing problem. Subsequently, improvement measures were proposed based on the analysis of each contributing factor. These steps aim not only to enhance the splicing process within the winding machine but also to elevate overall yarn quality. Through this approach, PT INS aims to rectify the splicing discrepancies, ultimately ensuring a more robust splicing process within the winding machine and elevating the overall yarn quality.
