Abstract

NAPZA is an acronym for narcotics, psychotropics, and other addictive substances. In the perspective of the Qur’an, drugs are equated with khamar because both of them lose consciousness. Most scholars agree on the prohibition of drugs or something similar to it. Drug abuse is a major problem that threatens many individuals and society as a whole. Conventional recovery is often less effective in providing long-term solutions for drug addicts. From an Islamic perspective, spiritual recovery can be an alternative. This article aims to examine the application of Islamic spiritual recovery methods in dealing with drug addicts by referring to surah al-Ma’arij verses 19-23. The verse describes the state of human beings who like to complain, entangled in various temptations and difficulties in life, which can be related to the condition of drug addicts. This research was conducted using the method of interpretation analysis of surah al-Ma’arij verses 19-23, a qualitative approach to explore the application of Islamic values in the recovery of drug addicts. By taking advantage of this approach, it is proposed that Quran-based Islamic spiritual restoration could provide better solutions to those who are entangled in drug addiction.

Because the language style of majaz influences, expands the meaning of the word arrangement in the Qur’an and the understanding of the meaning desired by Allah swt, has implications for translation and interpretation, several verses of the Qur’an are interesting both in terms of sentence composition and rhetoric (balaghiyyah) this study uses a descriptive method of analysis of majaz mursal in verses of the Qur'an, both in different contexts and themes. This study uses methods from qualitative data sources. This application shows the richness of language and depth of thought in sacred texts, and invites people to better understand Islamic teachings holistically.

Abstract

This study examines the sufi exegesis of Ibnu ‘Ajibah (1747–1809 CE) within the framework of institutionalized sufi orders (tariqah), positioning his work, al-Bahr al-Madid fi Tafsir al-Qur’an al-Majid, as a culmination of the mature sufi interpretative tradition. By applying Gadamer’s hermeneutic theory, the authors analyze how Ibnu ‘Ajibah’s socio-historical context marked by Morocco’s political instability and the ascendancy of the Syazily-Darqawi Sufi order shaped his integration of esoteric (batin) and exoteric (zahir) Qur’anic meanings. The research highlights two core dimensions of his exegesis: (1) the authority of the spiritual leader (mursyid) as an indispensable guide for disciples, rooted in Qur’anic verses such as QS al-Ma’idah/5: 35 and QS al-Nahl/16: 43, and (2) the institutionalized disciple-master relationship, legitimized through rituals like the oath of allegiance (bai’ah) and modeled on prophetic covenants (e.g., QS al-Fath/48: 10). The study argues that Ibnu ‘Ajibah’s tafsir transcends earlier Sufi traditions by systematically embedding the hierarchical structures of the Tariqah into Qur’anic interpretation by situating Ibnu ‘Ajibah’s work within the socio-religious dynamics of his era, this research underscores the role of institutionalized Sufism in redefining Qur’anic exegesis, offering fresh insights into the interplay between spiritual authority, textual hermeneutics, and Sufi institutionalization in the late pre-modern Islamic world.
