Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of antithetical language styles in Reizuka Ari’s TikTok Shop promotional content. This study employed a descriptive method and qualitative approach. The research data consisted of utterances in promotional videos uploaded to the TikTok account @dictionarei account. Data were collected through non-participatory observation, and data analysis was conducted by identifying, classifying, and describing the data based on Masruchin’s theory of antithetical language style. The results show that there are seven types of antithetical language styles used in Reizuka Ari’s promotional content: antithesis, paradox, hyperbole, litotes, contradiction interminus, oxymoron, and anachronism. The use of these language styles demonstrates various linguistic strategies for delivering promotional messages. Antithetical language styles are used not only to strengthen the meaning of utterances but also to create emphasis, build distinctive communication characters and attract the audience's attention. Thus, the use of antithetical language styles is one of the linguistic strategies that supports the delivery of persuasive messages in digital marketing communication through the TikTok Shop.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of code-switching and code-mixing in the soap opera Asmara Gen Z episode 576 and their use as representations of Generation Z’s linguistic identity. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The research data consist of character dialogues containing English elements within Indonesian-language utterances. Data collection was carried out using observation and note-taking techniques. The results show 16 data points comprising 6 instances of external code-switching and 10 instances of external code-mixing. External code-switching is characterized by a complete shift from Indonesian to English, while external code-mixing is marked by the insertion of English elements in the form of words, phrases, and clauses into Indonesian utterances. The dominance of code-mixing demonstrates the use of English as part of a flexible and adaptive communication strategy. Abstract

This study aims to describe the types, forms, and patterns of morphological and syntactic errors in the academic writing of students in the English Education Study Program at UIN Ambon, and to identify their possible causes. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method with an error analysis approach. The data consisted of 20 student academic manuscripts, including proposals, theses, activity reports, and midterm/final exam assignments. Data analysis was conducted through identification, description, explanation, and evaluation stages based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy, namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The results of the study indicate 34 patterns of morphological and syntactic errors, primarily spelling and word formation mistakes, omission of passive auxiliaries and copulas, comma splices in citation integration, and inversion of adjective-noun structures due to word-for-word translation. Lexical interference in the form of code mixing was also observed. These findings underscore the need to strengthen academic writing instruction through self-editing practice, mastery of grammatical structures, sentence completeness checks, and reduction of dependence on word-for-word translation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of social privilege in Eka Kurniawan’s novel O from the perspective of Georg Lukács’s theory of realism. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytic method. The data consisted of narrative excerpts, dialogues, and events that represented dominant–subordinate relations. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed based on the concepts of social totality, class relations, class consciousness, and reification in Lukács’s thought. The findings reveal four forms of social privilege: social class, power, cultural, and anthropocentric privileges. These forms operate through control over labor and its products, coercive control over the body, symbolic domination, and the instrumentalization of nonhuman life based on its usefulness. The findings indicate that social privilege in O is not merely an individual advantage but is produced through structural relations within social totality. O’s subordinate position bears a structural analogy to the proletarian position in terms of exploitation, without equating O with the proletariat as a historical category in Lukács’s theory
