Abstract

In this work a series of new 2, 4, 5-triphenyl imidazole derivatives were synthesized. In the beginning, compound [1] was formed from the reaction of benzoin and benzaldehyde in the presence of ammonia, which was reacted with sodium hydride in DMF to obtain imidazole salt. This salt was reacted with adipoyl chloride to give compound [2]. Acid hydrazide derivative [3] was obtained from the reaction of compound [2] with hydrazine hydrate.  After that Shiff bases [4-9] have been synthesized from the reaction of compound [3] with different aromatic aldehydes. These new formed compounds were diagnosed by 13C-NMR, 1H-NMR for some of them (in Ahl-Albate University in Jordan) and FT-IR spectroscopy (In Baghdad University). All of the prepared products have been studied their biological activities toward two kinds of bacteria. These products showed good efficacy to moderate toward bacteria. Keywords: Imidazole, Shiffs bases, Biological activity.

Abstract

Abstract. Acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) are a major health problem in developing countries. This infection can occur in the upper or lower respiratory tract which is accompanied by inflammation. Doxycycline is highly recommended for the treatment of ARTIs patients allergic to penicillin. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of doxycycline in the treatment of ARTIs through its antibiotic resistance rates, and identify bacteria that have been resistant to doxycycline antibiotics. This study consists of the stages of rejuvenation of clinical isolates from ARTIs patients at a community health center in the Urban Tasikmalaya area, identification of bacteria, and testing for antibiotic resistance using the paper-disk method. The results of resistance tests from 116 single clinical isolates showed that there had been resistance to doxycycline antibiotics in the treatment of ARTIs in the urban area of Tasikmalaya with a category of 64.29% being resistant; 14.29% intermediates and 21.42% are still sensitive. The results of bacterial identification showed that doxycycline was resistant to the Corynebacterium, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Haemophillus and Bordetella bacteria groups. Doxycycline treatment for ARTIs infection is considered not very effective. Another class of drugs as a substitute for doxycycline for patients allergic to penicillin is needed.

Abstract

One of the infertility management is performing intra uterine insemination (IUI), yet several reports indicated that the success rate is remained low. Sperm preparation, as one of contributing factor to IUI succeeds, has a possibility in generating on sperm DNA fragmentation. Recently, prolactin (PRL) is proved in enhance the sperm motility and protect the DNA integrity of the sperm. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of sperm preparation, in selecting sperm prior being utilized for IUI by PRL supplementation, based on the sperm DNA fragmentation. Semen samples were gained from 10 normozoospermic male who underwent sperm preparation for IUI. Semen analysis was performed to measure the sperm motility and velocity, before and after sperm preparation based on the WHO guideline. Samples were incubated at 500 ng (PRL 1), 750 ng (PRL 2), and 1000 ng (PRL 3). The Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD) test was performed to evaluate the sperm DNA Fragmentation index (DFI). The percentage of motile sperm was higher in prepared sperm than in whole semen. PRL supplementation could not increase the percentage of motile sperm in sperm preparation by DGC method, while in SU method PRL worked uniquely in different concentration, since the lowest concentration performed the best result. The level of DFI after the supplementation of PRL was decrease in prepared sperm compared to the whole semen. PRL was proved to select the better sperm quality with decreased sperm DNA fragmentation in sperm preparation, particularly in moderate and severe DFI category. Keywords: Density gradient centrifugation, Prolactin, Sperm DNA fragmentation, Sperm motility, swim up.

Abstract

Compressed sensing is an optimization based formalized framework based upon sub-Nyquist sampling principle of exploiting only the sparse signal of interest. It exploits the sparsity of the signal to reconstruct it from less number of measurements than required by the Nyquist sampling criteria. A nascent field of compressive sensing is explored in this paper for accurate acquisition and reconstruction of signals, images and video sequences.  The algorithm is proposed for compression and efficient recovery of image and video based on the concept of compressive sensing. Three basic reconstruction techniques (Basic Pursuit (l1) Minimization, Least Square (l2) Minimization and Orthogonal Matching Pursuit) are applied on image samples and they are compared based on quality performance criteria. The performance parameters like compression ratio, peak signal to noise ratio and structural similarity index are evaluated for different image and video samples for critical analysis of these performance parameters is done for different reconstruction schemes. Finally it is concluded that compressive sensing based approach is better than the traditional compression schemes and Basic Pursuit (l1) methods gives the better image quality with a tradeoff among other parameters enabling faster acquisition, compression and reconstruction. Keywords: Compressed sensing, Sparsity, Structural similarity index, Basic Pursuit Minimization, Least Square Minimization and Orthogonal Matching Pursuit.

Abstract

The eggplant (Solanum melongena, L.) is a good source of minerals and vitamins. Being rich in fiber and having low lipid content, it contains a variety of phytochemicals, such as polyphenols, which provide important health benefits. However, the short shelf life of eggplant can be a major cause of postharvest losses especially during peak harvesting season. Fermentation is one of the most convenient technologies for the production of shelf stable food product. The objective of this study was to evaluate different aspects affecting to the fermentation of eggplants such as concentration of CaCl2, temperature and time for blanching; effect of ratio Lactobacilus acidophillus to the antioxidant of fermented eggplant. Results showed that eggplants should be blanched in hot water 95oC in 10 seconds with the present of 2.0% CaCl2. Moreover, the fermentation process for pickle eggplants had the best antioxidant by Lactobacilus acidophillus at ratio 1.5 x 108 cells/ml. Blanching and fermentation had significantly affected to antioxidant capacity and firmness of pickle eggplants. Keywords: Eggplant, Pickle, Fermentation, Blanching, Lactobacilus acidophillus, Antioxidant.

Abstract

AbstractIntroduction. Advancement in operative techniques, better understanding of biomechanics and breakthrough in technology making spinal deformity correction surgery become more feasible and conducted more often. Majority of the neurological complications were related to spinal cord disruption due to technical issues. However, neurological complications that were attributed to a brain pathology, were more likely to be of ischemic origin.Case Illustration. We performed spinal deformity correction surgery on a 20-year old man with adult idiopathic scoliosis classification Lenke 2AN, with Cobb angle of 68°. On the second day, the serum sodium level showed a reduction. MRI examination revealed hyper acute infarct lesion on the posterior lobe of left temporo-parietal aspect. However, DSA examination was unremarkable. On the third postoperative day, his motoric and sensory functions, and sodium level returned to normal state. His cognitive function and communication abilities were able to return to normal gradually.Discussion. Stroke that occurs during spinal deformity correction surgery is reported in 5.8% of operative cases. Prone positioning accompanied by extension of the neck can compress vertebral arteries, causing reduction in vascular flow. Therefore, inappropriate prone positioning on the operating table for a prolonged period may cause cerebral ischemia.Conclusion. This case may serve as a reminder to surgeons and anesthesiologists towards the existence of such complications. Full awareness of the risk, good preoperative assessment, good surgical training, good communication, good teamwork, and good intraoperative and postoperative monitoring will minimize the risk for neurological complications.
