Abstract

Education policy in Indonesia has long been a battleground between populist promises and the constraints of the state budget. One of the latest policies, the free meal program for students, requires a substantial financial allocation. However, this comes at a time when the education sector is facing budget cuts, raising concerns about the sustainability and impact of such policies. This study aims to analyze the effects of populist education policies on budget allocation and the overall quality of education services in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach based on policy analysis, this research examines how budget reductions affect educator welfare, learning facilities, and equitable access to education. While the free meal program is intended to enhance student well-being, the findings suggest that cuts in education funding could undermine efforts to improve teaching quality and exacerbate disparities in learning opportunities, particularly in underprivileged regions. The study highlights the trade-offs involved in implementing populist policies. While such initiatives can generate short-term political gains and address immediate concerns, they may compromise long-term educational development if not supported by a well-structured budget plan. A balanced approach is necessary—one that accommodates student welfare initiatives without sacrificing investments in teacher development, infrastructure, and curriculum enhancement. This study recommends that policymakers adopt a sustainable budget planning strategy that aligns with both populist goals and the long-term needs of the education sector. Only through careful financial management and evidence-based policy decisions can Indonesia ensure both student welfare and quality education services in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utilization of digital technology in enhancing teachers' pedagogical competence in madrasahs in Jombang Regency. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving teachers, madrasah principals, and students. The findings indicate that digital technology has positively impacted teachers by enhancing their creativity and teaching effectiveness. The use of learning applications such as Google Classroom, Zoom, and Quizizz has helped teachers deliver lessons more interactively. Moreover, the integration of technology into learning has increased student engagement, particularly in discussions and group work. The study also reveals several challenges in implementing digital technology, such as limited infrastructure, lack of teacher training, and disparities in students' readiness. Some madrasahs still struggle with providing stable internet access and adequate learning devices. Additionally, resistance among some teachers due to limited digital skills and the time required to adjust teaching methods remains a challenge. To address these issues, strategies such as continuous teacher training, improvement of technological infrastructure, and the development of a more adaptive technology-based curriculum are necessary. By implementing these measures, the utilization of digital technology can be optimized to support the enhancement of teachers' pedagogical competence and the quality of learning in madrasahs in Jombang Regency.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of character education as a preventive strategy against bullying among new students at SMA Islam Al Azhar 9 Yogyakarta. Recognizing the importance of fostering a positive and inclusive school environment, the research examines how the institution promotes healthy relationships through personalized student support, peer mentoring, and inclusive activities. These efforts aim to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere that reduces instances of bullying while enhancing student well-being and social integration. Data collection involved in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including the Vice Principal for Student Affairs, the Guidance Counselor, and the Head of the School, alongside observational methods to assess the implementation of character education strategies in daily school activities. The findings suggest that SMA Islam Al Azhar 9 Yogyakarta adopts a proactive and continuous engagement approach, ensuring that new students feel supported and integrated into the school community. This method significantly contributes to preventing bullying by emphasizing relationship-building, empathy, and mutual respect. The study underscores the effectiveness of character education programs in shaping school culture and minimizing bullying incidents. By implementing structured mentoring systems and interactive initiatives, the school cultivates a culture of care and responsibility among students. The results offer valuable insights for other educational institutions seeking to address bullying through character development. Future research is recommended to examine the long-term impact of such programs on student behavior, school climate, and overall academic success

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of anti-corruption and de-radicalisation education on student character building, especially related to integrity and the potential for apathy. A qualitative method with in-depth interviews was used to explore the perspectives of students who have participated in these programmes. The results showed that although anti-corruption education and de-radicalisation increased students' awareness of the importance of integrity and the dangers of corruption, there were indications of the potential for apathy due to inconsistencies between the values taught and the reality faced. Differences in perceptions based on major background and personal experience also affect the effectiveness of the programme. Therefore, this research emphasises the need for a more contextual, participatory and sustainable approach in the implementation of anti-corruption and de-radicalisation education to maximise its impact in shaping a generation with integrity. By continuously improving the quality and effectiveness of anti-corruption and de-radicalisation education, we can build a more just, inclusive and prosperous future for future generations.

Abstract

This study explores the crucial role of strategic management in developing competency-based curricula (CBC) in educational institutions. CBC emphasizes students’ competency achievement, ensuring alignment with labor market demands and contemporary advancements. The integration of strategic management in curriculum development is essential in planning, executing, and evaluating educational programs to maintain their relevance to both student needs and national education standards. Utilizing a literature review method with a qualitative descriptive approach, this study examines how strategic management influences the design and implementation of CBC. The findings indicate that effective strategic management significantly enhances curriculum quality by considering various factors, including industrial demands, educational policies, and global learning trends. A well-managed competency-based curriculum ensures that students acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly changing professional landscape. The study also highlights challenges in implementing CBC, such as the need for continuous curriculum updates, collaboration between educational institutions and industries, and the integration of digital learning tools. To overcome these challenges, institutions must adopt adaptive and data-driven management strategies. Regular assessments, stakeholder involvement, and the use of technology-driven insights can help optimize curriculum effectiveness and maintain its alignment with evolving industry needs. Strategic management serves as a key driver in the successful development and implementation of CBC. By embracing proactive planning and evaluation, educational institutions can create a dynamic and future-ready learning environment that equips students with the competencies required in the modern workforce
