Abstract

This study discusses the use of Digital Synchronous Discourse as an innovation in learning media, especially in the context of discourse analysis by students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program (TBIN) at IAIN Madura. This innovation emerged as a response to the need for a more interactive learning method, relevant to technological developments, and able to encourage active student involvement. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness and implementation of digital synchronous discourse in discourse analysis learning and to determine its impact on students' understanding and analytical skills. The method used was descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation of classroom learning activities. The results of the study showed that the use of digital media synchronously was able to increase student participation, enrich the sources of discourse analyzed, and provide a wider space for reflection in understanding the context and structure of discourse. In conclusion, Digital Synchronous Discourse is an effective and innovative approach in supporting discourse analysis learning, especially in the digital era that demands flexibility and interactivity in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of trauma and relational healing between humans and dragons in How to Train Your Dragon (2025) and its relevance to Indonesian language and literature education. The study aims to identify forms of trauma, explain the process of relational recovery, and explore the pedagogical potential of the film as a learning resource. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the analysis applies content analysis based on trauma theory proposed by Caruth (1996) and LaCapra (2001), as well as Haraway’s posthumanist perspective (2008). The findings indicate that the live-action version presents trauma more concretely than the animated version through the visualization of physical injuries, expressions of fear, and relational distance between humans and dragons. Trauma is represented not only as an individual psychological experience but also as a collective and ecological phenomenon reflected in symbolic violence toward dragons and cultural pressure on humans. The relationship between Hiccup and Toothless illustrates a process of working through characterized by empathy, trust, and cross-species ecological reconciliation. These findings suggest that the film can be utilized as a multimodal text in Indonesian language and literature education to develop emotional literacy, ecological literacy, and literary appreciation skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction and critical reading of masculinity in the character of Dilan in Dilan 1990, a novel by Pidi Baiq, by highlighting the tension between romanticism and violence in gender relations. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research applies close reading techniques to dialogues, narrative descriptions, and the character’s actions, grounded in R. W. Connell’s theory of hegemonic masculinity. The findings indicate that Dilan represents hegemonic masculinity through dominant attitudes, emotional control, and possessive behavior toward Milea, which implicitly positions women in a subordinate role within romantic relationships. However, a critical reading of the text also reveals internal contradictions in Dilan’s character, such as expressions of affection, care, and respect toward the maternal figure, reflecting an alternative form of masculinity. The tension between these representations suggests that masculinity in the novel is not singular but socially constructed and shaped by cultural norms and gender discourse of the 1990s. This study affirms that popular literature plays a strategic role in reproducing as well as problematizing gender values in society. Therefore, the findings have implications for teaching prose in senior high schools by promoting gender-critical literacy to foster students’ awareness of healthy and equitable romantic relationships.

Abstract

Introducing the Indonesian language to early childhood learners involves building conceptual understanding and vocabulary through active participation and meaningful use in everyday life. Language acquisition in early childhood also requires learning experiences that are meaningful, enjoyable, and contextual. This learning model integrates educational and entertainment elements, enabling children to acquire language naturally through play activities, singing, storytelling, and social interaction. This study aims to describe early childhood Indonesian language acquisition through the implementation of an edutainment learning model. The study employs a descriptive research approach with early childhood learners in PAUD (Early Childhood Education) institutions as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, field notes, and documentation of learning activities. The results indicate that edutainment-based learning facilitates vocabulary acquisition, increases children’s confidence in oral language use, and helps them understand the meaning of utterances in everyday contexts. The findings reveal that a needs analysis shows existing Indonesian language instruction lacks a systematic instructional design and adequate digital teaching materials, highlighting the need for a model that integrates entertainment-based learning and digital applications. Expert validation confirms that the edutainment learning model is appropriate for introducing Indonesian to early childhood learners in kindergarten settings. The implementation of the edutainment model has proven effective in increasing early learners’ exposure to and use of the Indonesian language. The developed edutainment learning model, supported by digital learning applications, provides a practical reference for teachers, parents, and early childhood institutions in creating engaging, meaningful, and effective Indonesian language learning experiences.
