Abstract

Food security must be achieved because food is one of the issues that need to be addressed at the individual and household levels, particularly in terms of meeting consumption needs that lead to adequate food availability. The objectives of this study are (1) to analyze the availability of food (rice) in farmer households and (2) to analyze the consumption patterns of staple foods in farmer households. The study was conducted from May to August 2024, using purposive sampling, with the Harry King nomogram formula and a 91% confidence level for the sample relative to the population. With a margin of error of 9% from the total population of 191, resulting in 60 rice farmers. The types and sources of data include primary data obtained through field surveys conducted in Padengo Village via interviews using questionnaires, as well as secondary data obtained from the Pohuwato Central Statistics Agency. Data analysis employed consumption pattern analysis using the Food Recall method and assessed the food availability of staple foods. The analysis involved two key components: Input (sources of staple foods from production, purchases, and food assistance) and Output (sold, used in social activities, or given to others). The results of this study indicate that the average food consumption pattern of farmer households in Padengo Village is 1,743 kcal/person/day, which is below the recommended energy sufficiency level of 2,100 kcal/person/day. Furthermore, the availability of staple food rice in farmer households, as seen from the household food consumption pattern, was 1,127 kcal/person/day, which is below the recommended level of 1,400 kcal/person/day.

Abstract

Lowland rice is crucial in ensuring a stable food supply in a region. Uncertainty in harvest yields and farmers' income can disrupt food distribution, ultimately impacting food security in the area. This study examines the production and income risks associated with lowland rice farming in Harapan Village. The study was conducted from May to July 2024, utilizing data from a single planting season. The population involved in this study consisted of 424 farmers, and samples were selected using a simple random technique, with calculations based on the Slovin formula. This resulted in a sample of 40 farmers, with a margin of error of 15%. Data were collected through direct interviews (primary data) and secondary data from related agencies. The variables analyzed include fixed and variable costs, income calculated from revenue and expenditure, and risk measured by average production, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. The data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using Microsoft Excel 2021 to evaluate fluctuations in production and income. The results of the study indicate that the low level of production risk, as reflected in the Coefficient of Variation (CV) value of 0.50, suggests that rice farming in Harapan Village is relatively stable and not significantly affected by large fluctuations. However, even though the production risk is relatively low, farmers' income, which averages IDR 14,110,668 per planting season, is still limited because most of the income is used to cover production costs and debt obligations, which ultimately affects farmers' ability to obtain greater profits.

Abstract

Tobacco is a leading commodity in Sumberharjo Village because it has high economic value, thereby improving the financial welfare of farming families. Farmers' families derive their income from various activities, including tobacco cultivation in Sumberharjo Village. This study was conducted to determine the contribution of income from tobacco farming to the total income of farmers. This study was conducted in November and December 2024 in Sumberharjo Village. The study included 40 respondents, selected using simple random sampling. The variables in this study included farmers' income, revenue, and farming costs, such as taxes, depreciation costs, seeds, fertilizers, agricultural chemicals, and labor costs. This study used farming analysis, including an analysis of total costs incurred by farmers, an analysis of income using the calculation of total production multiplied by the selling price, an analysis of farmers' income using the calculation of total income minus total costs, and an analysis of the contribution of tobacco farming income to total farmer income. The analysis results indicate that tobacco farming income makes a significant contribution to total farmer income. Therefore, farmers are encouraged to develop tobacco farming to achieve higher income.

Abstract

A lanting house is a traditional wooden structure built above water, serving as a residence for its inhabitants who carry out daily activities within it. Living in a lanting house involves several risks related to health, safety, and security. This study aims to identify the economic factors that support the resilience of Lanting House residents along the Kapuas River in Kapuas Kanan Hilir, Sintang Village. The research was conducted in 2023 using a qualitative descriptive approach with the interactive analysis model of Miles and Huberman. Data were collected through purposive sampling of 15 residents and two key informants, employing in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that economic survival factors include the suitability of livelihood, sufficient income, affordability of living costs, and length of residence. These factors contribute significantly to why most residents continue to live in lanting houses despite the associated risks. This study offers a contextual understanding of the economic resilience of riverbank communities, which can inform local policy and spatial planning based on local knowledge and insights.

Abstract

Rice-fish integration farming is an integrated farming system that combines rice and fish cultivation on the same land, and has developed adaptively in the wetlands of Epeesi Village, South Konawe District. This study aims to identify and analyze the existing social, economic, and institutional conditions in the practice of integrated rice-fish farming as a basis for sustainability assessment. The research employed a combination of descriptive qualitative and quantitative approaches, with primary data collected through structured interviews with 75 rice-fish integration farmers, supplemented by secondary data and field documentation. The results showed that socially, this system is supported by ethnic-based community cohesion, family participation, and local wisdom, which remain sustainable and serve as an adaptive force. From an economic perspective, rice-fish integration can improve household food security and farmers' income through commodity diversification and ecotourism services. However, access to capital and formal markets is still limited. Meanwhile, the institutional aspect reveals that farmers' institutions have been established, but their functions are not yet optimal, with minimal support from extension services and partnerships. These findings confirm that the sustainability of integrated rice-fish farming is highly dependent on the integration of social values, household economic resilience, and the strengthening of local institutions. Therefore, agricultural policies that favor local communities and are based on multi-stakeholder partnerships need to be mainstreamed to encourage the replication of this system as a sustainable agricultural model in marginal ecosystems.

Abstract

Inflation is highly detrimental to a country's economy. Inflation can be described as the purchasing power of an exchange rate over a period. Rising food prices can contribute to a country's inflation. The decline in a country's currency's purchasing power will impact the decline in people's purchasing power for daily needs. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between price fluctuations and inflation in Medan City. This study primarily relies on secondary data as its primary source of reference. Secondary data was obtained from the website of the Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS) of North Sumatra Province and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of North Sumatra Province. The secondary data used in this study are strategic food price data on rice commodities, fresh chicken meat, beef, chicken eggs, shallots, garlic, curly red chilies, green cayenne pepper, cooking oil, and granulated sugar. Additionally, this study utilizes inflation data from Medan City. Price and inflation data were collected monthly from January 2020 to December 2023, encompassing both the pandemic and the post-COVID-19 period. Quantitative analysis uses an econometric model, namely OLS, which can be formulated using multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the test results, several commodities have an impact on inflation in Medan City, including rice, broiler chicken, beef, shallots, cooking oil, and sugar.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to examine the implementation of government policies on the empowerment program of Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) related to livelihood assets and to describe the performance of SAD assets in Jambi Province. The study was conducted in 2024. The study location was determined purposively in Dwi Karya Bhakti Village, Pelepat District, Bungo Regency, and Muara Kilis Village, Tebo Tengah District, Tebo Regency, considering that these locations had received various empowerment programs and obtained agricultural land for the SAD community. Respondents were identified through the census, specifically 93 SAD individuals who had been empowered. They were then interviewed, along with the Head of the Service/Secretary of the Food Crops, Horticulture, and Plantation Service of Bungo Regency and Tebo Regency, as well as Tumenggung and SAD Companion Figures. This study used a descriptive analytical approach to describe the implementation of government policies. The livelihood assets were scored using indicators of natural capital, financial capital, social capital, human capital, and physical capital. The research findings indicate that there are no regulations or policies from the Jambi Provincial Regulation regarding SAD assistance, specifically in the agricultural sector, in Bungo and Tebo Regencies. Based on livelihood assets, it is known that the livelihood assets of SAD are not yet optimal. This study highlights the need for maximum assistance that focuses on livelihood assets so that the level of nomadic people in SAD can be overcome and the success of the program, especially in the agricultural sector, can be achieved.

Abstract

Indonesia has experienced significant growth in both coffee production and consumption, driving the development of local coffee businesses. Amid increasing competition, Instagram has become a primary platform for promotional strategies due to its visual strength and broad reach. This study aims to analyze the influence of Instagram promotion effectiveness on consumer purchase decisions, with brand awareness as a mediating variable. Promotion effectiveness is measured using the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) Model, which encompasses stimulus (content quality), organism (attention, comprehension, and acceptance), and response (interaction and participation). The study was conducted at Sumber Wandhe Coffee Lab, Jombang, East Java, from January 2025, utilizing field observations and interviews supported by Google Forms, and employing a quantitative approach. A total of 100 respondents, out of 4,000 followers of Sumber Wandhe Coffee Lab on Instagram, were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected via an online questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) through WarpPLS 8.0. This study examined the relationship among three main variables: Instagram promotion effectiveness, brand awareness, and purchase decision. The results show that Instagram promotional content received high average scores in stimulus (4.23), organism (4.24), and response (4.15), with an overall effectiveness score of 4.20. The outer Model met the validity and reliability criteria. The inner model analysis revealed a significant direct effect of Instagram promotion on brand awareness (β = 0.83, p < 0.01) and a significant effect of brand awareness on the purchase decision (β = 0.62, p < 0.01). The indirect effect of promotion on purchase decision through brand awareness was more substantial than the direct path. These findings confirm that brand awareness serves as a key mediator linking the effectiveness of Instagram promotion to consumer purchasing behavior.

Abstract

Sugarcane is a key plantation crop and the primary source of sugar in Indonesia. However, over the past decade, rising demand has not been matched by domestic production, which has continued to decline. Improving productivity can be achieved through the use of high-quality seed. However, farmers face limited access as supply from sugar mill networks is scarce. Interest in self-producing seed remains low due to limited awareness of its comparable economic benefits to cane cultivation for milling. This study aims to assess the efficiency of seed cane production in Balung District, Jember Regency, and to identify sustainable strategies for developing an independent sugarcane seed production system at the farmer level. The results are expected to provide recommendations for farmers on improving the availability and quality of self-produced seed, serving as a reference for decision-making in developing a more efficient and sustainable sugarcane seed propagation system. The research was conducted from January to March 2025 in Balung Sub-district, Jember Regency, involving a single farmer as the primary respondent, who manages a seed production area of 1.125 hectares. Observed variables included total cost, revenue, profit, and financial efficiency parameters, such as the R/C ratio, B/C ratio, Break-Even Point (BEP), and sensitivity analysis. Data were analyzed using farm business and financial efficiency analysis methods. The results showed that bud-set sugarcane seed production is feasible and profitable, with a total cost of IDR 36,740,000.00/ha, a projected revenue of IDR 50,400,000.00/ha, and a profit of IDR 13,660,000.00 per hectare, assuming a 1:7 multiplication ratio. The R/C ratio was 1.38, and the return on investment (ROI) reached 138%. BEP and sensitivity analyses also indicated that the business remains efficient even under price fluctuations or increased production costs. It is recommended that local stakeholders support farmer training and seed certification to encourage wider adoption of independent seed production.

Abstract

This research was conducted in 2025 with the aim of analyzing economic contributions and the time devotion at Kota Jati Furindo LLC dedicated to supporting their family economy and analyzing their contributions. The study was conducted at Kota Jati Furindo LLC, situated on the Jepara-Bangsri road, approximately 6.5 kilometers from Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia. The company operates in the timber industry and employs a significant number of women, particularly in the production department. This study used the census method for data collection, chosen because it allows the inclusion of the entire population that meets the criteria as respondents, resulting in more accurate findings. The study involved 50 respondents, specifically married women employees working in the packing and sanding divisions. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. The study employed descriptive analysis with a quantitative approach for data analysis. This approach was chosen to provide an in-depth understanding of the time dedication and economic contribution of the respondents. The data analysis showed that women employees at Kota Jati Furindo LLC spend an average of 33.33% of their time each week on economic activities or work. Meanwhile, the average time spent on non-economic activities, such as attending to personal needs, social activities, and household chores, was 66.65% per week. The contribution analysis revealed that the economic contribution of women employees to the family income is 43%, which falls into the medium category. Policy implications based on these findings suggest that the company needs to develop policies that support a better work-life balance for its female employees. For example, offering more flexible work arrangements or improved leave policies could help women manage the time between work and family responsibilities, thus enhancing their economic contribution more optimally.
