Abstract

Oil prices have stagnated from 2015 to early 2020. After the crisis caused by Covid-19, oil prices slowly increased and even reached their highest point in the last 10 years in mid-2022. Coal prices reached an all-time high at the end of 2021 before then increasing again in early 2022. The significant increase in coal and oil prices was triggered by the war between Russia and Ukraine. The embargo on Russian oil and coal has contributed to the decline in coal and oil stocks as fuel for power plants in Europe. This research determines the impact of the volatility of oil prices, coal prices, and global energy price index on the stock price index in Indonesia. Does global energy price index, which consists of crude oil and coal prices affect Indonesia stock indices more precisely. This study show volatility of oil prices and coal prices affects company stock prices in Europe. The analysis examined Jakarta Composite Index, LQ45 Index, Jakarta Islamic Index, and Sectoral Index for the 2018-2022 periods. Several techniques, including ordinary least square, linear regression, and multiple regression. The increases of the oil prices, coal prices, and global energy indices affect the stock price index in Indonesia. The study will help investor to understand the impact of oil, coal price volatility and global energy index to several Indonesia stock indices.

Abstract

The significant growth of retail investors in Indonesia between 2020 and 2022 is partly attributable to technological advancements that have made it easier to access investments through a variety of applications. Previous studies in developing nations like Indonesia, India, and Pakistan suggested that perception biases have influence on retail investor decision making. However, given the capabilities of current investing applications like the display of historical stock/mutual fund price data, retail investors should ideally be able to make more rational investment decisions. This study employs partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the role of overconfidence, representativeness, and loss aversion biases that affect rational investment decision making. As an application feature, historical price data serves as the moderating variable of the interaction between them. The result of this study indicates that overconfidence influences rational investment decision making in a positive and significant manner, while representativeness and loss aversion do not have a significant effect. Price historical data as application feature also does not have significant effect in moderating the relationship between them.

Abstract

The use of chemical insecticides to control Spodoptera exigua is currently the main choice for farmers. The continuous use of chemical insecticides will cause many problems including resistance, food safety and environmental damage. alternative use of organic insecticides needs to be applied for the control system of Spodoptera exigua on shallot plants. The experiment was carried out in Playangan Village, Gebang District, Cirebon Regency, in April-June 2019. The research method used a randomized block design with 3 replications, consisting of 9 treatment combinations of three cultivars: Bima, Ilokos, Sumenep, organic insecticides: neem seed extract, Bauveria bassiana, Bacillus thuringiensis. The results of the experiment showed that the combination of treatment of 3 cultivars of shallots and organic insecticides had a significant effect on the components of the intensity of the attack of Spodptera exigua pests (plants aged 43, 50 and 57 DAP). The best treatment was obtained, namely the treatment of Ilokos cultivar and neem seed extract insecticide with tuber yields of 6.60 kg / plot or equivalent to 28.57 tonnes / ha.

Abstract

The establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) makes the movement of labor in the ASEAN region more free and dynamic. This provides wider opportunities for Indonesian workers to get better jobs. On the other hand, the same opportunity is also owned by citizens of other ASEAN countries to enter the labor market in Indonesia. Based on several previous empirical studies, the entry of foreign workers into a country can significantly impact economic growth, both positively and negatively. The impact is greatly influenced by the skill level of a worker. High skilled labor tends to have a positive impact on economic growth. The increase in the number of foreign workers is also influenced by FDI and GDP. The amount of FDI received by a country tends to be positively correlated with the number of foreign workers. This is because the FDI provided has applied high technology so that the knowledge transfer process is needed by foreign experts. The tendency of foreign skilled workers who have higher wages than domestic workers makes wage inequality between workers. Increased employment of foreign workers could also widen the wage gap in Indonesia.

Abstract

Is Islamophobia a new marvel?. Are Islam and the Judeo-Christian West still hateful of and hostile toward each other? What has fueled the sudden rhetoric of Islamophobia in the United States of America and Europe?. After the attack of Twin Towers 9/11, Islam was being viewed as a conservative, barbaric and intolerant perspective of life. Muslim was posited as blood thirsty savages under the banner of a monolithic religion. The study aims to examine the impact of Islamophobia on society, attitudes, policies and the youths. Descriptive method with qualitative approach was used in the study. The 2016 Presidential elections of America were one of the most acrimonious and confrontational campaigns in the history of America. Extraordinary political rhetoric, outbursts in distasteful discriminatory tones, and anti-Muslim invectives blemished the campaign of United States (US) Presidential Elections of 2016. To endorse his political agenda, Donald J. Trump specifically focused upon Muslims as a grave issue, and likely toyed with the public pulses, which resulted in an unpredictable election result. Mirroring the perceived reality, media as an invention of information shapes public opinion. Media reports after 9/11 specifically underrepresented Muslim views and negatively portrayed Islamic culture. Islam was painted as a religion of discrimination, radicalization and regression by the Western media. With the advent of digital media, providing a carte blanche deserted the situation further. The rhetoric of Islamophobia dispersed hatred speech and acts of defamation on social media websites backed by the freedom of speech narrative.

Abstract

The parliamentary system in Eastern Central Europe has been known for its authoritarianism, with parliaments being subordinated to communist leadership and parties, as seen in Poland. The decline of democracy in Poland reached its peak when the conservative party was in power, controlling the legislative and judiciary in this former communist country. Corruption and social inequality threatened modern democracy, leading to protests and criticism from the people. The ruling party mainly focused on economic and political power in the name of citizens, leading to criticism even from the media. The study aims to examine the decline of democracy and parliaments in eastern central Europe in Poland. The study uses a case study and qualitative approach to identify the factors behind the decline of democracy in Poland. The main issues were the credibility of state institutions and the lack of media freedom, in addition to corruption. The political change in Poland and increasing populism led to the decline of democracy, which continued to receive criticism even from the media.
