Abstract

This study explores the effect of fiscal sustainability measures on inflation in Nigeria, given the fiscal challenges facing the country. The objective of the study is to analyze how fiscal sustainability measures, such as debt-to-GDP ratio and debt service-to-income ratio, affect inflation. The methodology used includes analysis of annual data from 1980 to 2020 using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach and impulse response function. The results show that debt-to-GDP ratio and debt service-to-export ratio have a significant negative effect on inflation, while debt service-to-income ratio, debt-to-export ratio, and exchange rate have a significant positive effect. This study also finds that inflation responds negatively to shocks from the debt-to-GDP ratio, debt service to exports, and exchange rate, while responding positively to shocks from the debt service to income ratio and debt service to exports ratio. In conclusion, it is important for the debt management office and the ministry of finance to reduce the debt service-to-income ratio and improve fiscal sustainability policies to stabilize inflation in Nigeria.

Abstract

The growth of the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia shows a significant increase, which triggers competition between Islamic banks and conventional banks. In this context, Good Corporate Governance (GCG) and bank size play an important role in influencing financial performance, as measured by Return on Assets (ROA). This study aims to analyze the effect of GCG and bank size on financial performance with Non-Performing Financing (NPF) as a moderating variable. This study uses data from 10 Islamic banks registered with OJK during the 2019-2023 period, using purposive sampling method. The data were analyzed using panel regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) to test the proposed hypothesis. The results showed that GCG and bank size have a positive and significant effect on ROA. However, NPF is not able to moderate the effect of GCG and bank size on ROA. This finding confirms the importance of good GCG implementation and effective risk management in improving the financial performance of Islamic banks. Although NPF does not moderate the relationship between GCG and bank size on ROA, risk management is key in maintaining good financial performance. An increase in the number of independent commissioners is expected to support better company conditions. This study concluded that GCG and bank size have a significant influence on the financial performance of Islamic banks. To improve financial performance, it is important for Islamic banks to optimize the implementation of GCG and manage financing risks well. Future research is recommended to expand the number of samples and variables studied in order to obtain more accurate and comprehensive results.

Abstract

Using the Narrative Literature Review (NLR) method, this study aims to evaluate the suitability of the application of the Scrum framework in software development with predetermined rules. The research focuses on Scrum artifacts, namely Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, and Product Increment. The research data was obtained from journals in Google Scholar that are relevant to the implementation of Agile Scrum in software development. The results of this research are expected to provide a better understanding of the criteria and rules that must be met in order for a framework to be considered a Scrum framework. This research will specifically examine the suitability of artifacts in implementation with applicable Scrum rules. Based on a review of 10 literature journals, the main focus is on artifacts. Most implementations of the Product Backlog do not include tasks in the backlog and are not sorted by highest priority to lowest. In the Sprint Backlog the status of the list of tasks in progress is not displayed in the backlog sprint, there is no ownership of the task, and in the Product Increment, tasks that have been completed at the end of the sprint and unfinished tasks that will be continued in the next sprint cannot be displayed. Sprint goals are also not displayed on the Sprint Backlog, so in the end it is not possible to measure the agility of Agile Scrum.

Abstract

Indonesia is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to global warming. To reduce emissions and achieve the net-zero emission target by 2060, Indonesia encourages the use of electric vehicles. However, sales of battery-based electric cars remain low. To increase sales, the Government provides Government-Borne Value Added Tax (VAT DTP) incentives, in addition to other fiscal and non-fiscal incentives. This study aims to analyze the influence of the VAT DTP incentive policy on electric car sales in Indonesia. The methods employed are Difference-in-Differences (DID) and Propensity Score Matching (PSM) with monthly electric car sales data from the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Gaikindo) for the period January 2022 to September 2024. The results of this study demonstrate that the implementation of VAT DTP incentives since April 2023 has had a significant positive effect on electric car sales. Other factors, such as first-mover advantage, promotional events, price, brand, and car specifications, also affect sales.

Abstract

Waste stabilization ponds (WSP) are conventional wastewater treatment technologies that utilize biological processes and have become key hotspots for the proliferation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). During the wastewater treatment process, bacterial inactivation may release ARGs into the environment, with two primary phases of presence: intracellular (iARGs) and extracellular (eARGs). The objective of this study was to assess the abundance and removal efficiency of ARGs during the WSP process, and to explore the correlation between ARGs, total bacterial populations, and integron 1 (intl1) as a marker for horizontal gene transfer. The results showed that raw wastewater had iARGs abundance ranging from 4.69×10^5 to 5.99×10^6 gene copies/ml, and eARGs from 5.91×10^3 to 1.04×10^5 gene copies/ml. After treatment through the WSP, intracellular ARGs, intl1, and 16S rRNA genes were reduced by 0.20 to 1.73 logs, while extracellular ARGs were removed by 0.05 to 0.79 logs. Interestingly, intl1 and 16S rRNA genes showed amplification at the outlet of the wastewater treatment plant by -0.21 and -0.87 logs, respectively. The study revealed that the relative abundance of ARGs was higher in the extracellular phase, with iARGs and eARGs showing values from 7.75×10^-5 to 4.52×10^-2 and 1.33×10^-4 to 1.58×10^-1, respectively. A significant positive correlation was observed between ARGs and the total bacterial population, as well as with intl1, indicating the potential for co-occurrence and horizontal gene transfer in the microbial community within wastewater. This research highlights the environmental implications of ARGs persistence and proliferation in wastewater treatment processes, offering insights into the management of ARGs in wastewater treatment systems.
