Focus and Scope Animal Breeding and Genetics It covers a wide range of applied animal breeding, genetic evaluation technology, quantitative and molecular genetics, evolution as well as genomics and bioinformatics of farm animals. Animal Reproduction and Physiology Different aspects of reproduction and physiology of farm animals are covered in this scope including and not limited to physiology of fertilization, early development, growth and lactation. Feed and Nutrition It covers microbiology and function of rumen, ruminants/non-ruminants nutrition, physiology and metabolism related to feeding, forage nutrion and provision, feed and feed additive evaluation, technology of feed processing, poultry and other non-ruminants farm animals nutrition and its physiology. Animal Products It covers technology of post harvest of farm animal products, food safety, food security, functional foods, biology of muscle, product composition, and science of milk, meat and egg. Animal Biotechnology Some aspects of animal biotechnology of farm animals are covered including and not limited to molecular nutrition, transgenetics as well as genes identification and manipulation. Animal Health It includes studies about animal modeling on animal health, infection and immunity, physiology of stress, vaccine and therapeutics of farm animals. Animal Behaviour and Welfare Social and sexual behaviour, adaptation, and welfare of farm animals are included in this topic. Environment, Management, and Socio-Economics It covers topics on management of waste and by-products, livestock and environment, farming system, and socio-agribusiness of animal production.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan tempurung kelapa terhadap kualitas fisik daging asap dari daging sapi dan daging kerbau yang diolah secara tradisional. Daging kerbau selama ini cenderung kurang disukai untuk digunakan karena dianggap memiliki kualitas fisik yang rendah  karena biasanya kerbau dipotong pada umur yang tua. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan desain Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan dua perlakuan yaitu jenis daging yaitu P1 : daging sapi, P2 : daging kerbau dengan tiga ulangan. Peubah yang akan diamati meliputi nilai kadar air, pH, aktivitas air dan tingkat kekerasan. Data parametrik peubah fisik, dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji t Hasil penelitian ioni adalah kualitas fisik daging asap yang diolah dari daging sapi dan daging kerbau secara umum masih cukup baik sampai lama penyimpanan 1 minggu. Abstract

An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of ration containing protected fatty acids on carcass quality and wholesale cuts of livestock. The protected fatty acids was in the form of dried carboxylate salt mixture (DCM). The experiments  were assigned to 2x2 factorial model with two feeding treatment P0 (without DCM) and P1 (with DCM) and two animals types J0 (cattle) and J1 (buffaloes). The animals were slaughtered at 315.50±6.96 kg for buffaloes and 289,88 ±6.03 kg for cattle. The results showed that interaction was found between the two factors on striploin. DCM supplementation not significantly all parameters. The buffalo had significantly lower carcass percentage,  loin eye area, tenderloin, silverside, fat colour score compared the cattle. It is concluded that DCM supplementation in the ration of buffalo cannot improve the quality of carcass and wholesale cuts. Keywords: carcass, wholesale cuts, buffalo, cattle, DCM.

Abstract

The research aimed was to assess the technical, institutional, commercial, financial and economic feasibility of integration model of cattle production with sugarcane farming and its effect on the prosperity of farmers in Kayu Aro Barat District, Kerinci Regency. The method used was survey method with Stratified Random Sampling technique.  Sampling technque consisted of 2 strata i.e. strata I was sugarcane farmers who integrate to cattle production, and strata II was sugarcane farmers who not integrate to cattle production. Each index used present value from cost and benefit flows that were NPV, Net B/C ratio and IRR. For assessing the effect of integration model of cattle production with sugarcane farming on the prosperity of farmer was used path analysis. The study found that integration cattle production with sugarcane farming in Kayu Aro Barat District, Kerinci Regency  was feasible.  Technical, commercial, financial and economical  aspects were partially affect to farmers’ prosperity  in Kayu Aro Barat District, Kerinci Regency.   Key words : Integration model, catlle production, sugarcane

Abstract

The experiment was designed to study the uses of orange waste extracts with solution of n-hexana in inhibiting the pathogen bacteria on broilers. Orange wasteextracts with solution n-hexana, E.coli and S.enteridisbacteria, were assigned into the zone of inhibition (Disc) and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC).Completely randomized design was used in the present study, were randomly allocated to five treatments groups given varying in concentrations of orange waste extracts. P0 = antibiotic, P1 = 250 ppm orange waste extracts, P2 = 500 ppm orange waste extracs, P3 = 750 ppm orange waste extracs and P4 = 1000 ppm orange waste extracts. Supplemented with an antibiotic only was used as a control. The concentrations 1000 ppm of MIC were testshowed inhibition of orange waste extracts higher with a percentage minimum 22,87% for the bacteriumE. coliand 18,99% for the S. enteriditisthan index activity 2,50for the bacterium E. coli and 2,75for the S. enteriditis.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the effect of prolinas (pineapple skin probiotics) on the rumen fluid characteristic of dairy cows through in vitro method. A Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 4 replications was applied. The treatments consist of A: oil palm fronds without fermentation (control), B: oil palm fronds fermented with prolinas of 2.5% dry matter (DM), C: oil palm fronds fermented with prolinas of 5% DM, D: oil palm fronds fermented with prolinas of 7.5% DM. Parameters measured were dry matter digestibility (DMD) and organic materials digestibility, N-NH3, rumen pH, concentration of volatile fatty acid in the rumen. The results showed that oil palm fronds fermented with prolinas with concentration of 5% DM was the best results in improving DMD and total VFA concentration in the rumen of dairy cows.

Abstract

The research aim was to determine the influence of time feed restriction on the efficiency of protein utilization in growing period of broiler. Materials used in this experiment were 500 22 - 42-day-old broilers. The commercial pelleted feed containing 19% protein and 3100 kcal/kg of ME for grower period was used. The treatments were P0 (feed was provided ad libitum from 7 to 42 day of age, P1 (feed was provided ad libitum from 22 to 42 day of age), P2 (feed was provided 8 hours a day, with time composition 3 hr in the morning (08.00-11.00) and 5 hr in the afternoon till night (16.00-21.00)), P3 (feed was provided 10 hours a day, with time composition 3 hr in the morning (08.00-11.00) and 7 hr in the afternoon till night (16.00-23.00)) dan P4 (feed was provided 12 hours a day, with time composition 3 hr in the morning (08.00-11.00) and 9 hr in the afternoon till night (16.00-01.00)). Completely Randomized Design with 5 treatments and 4 replicationS was used in this experiment. Parameters measured were feed intake, protein consumption, body weight gain and efficiency of protein utilization. The result showed that time length to provide the feed was significantly reduced (P<0.05) feed intake, protein consumption and was significantly increased (P<0.05) the efficiency of protein utilization. Therefore, body weight was the same for all treatments. It concluded that 8 hours a day for time length to proved the feed could increase the efficiency of protein utilization and did not interfere body weight gain.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the use of tris in skim milk diluent in immune Simmental cattle spermatozoa after freezing. Randomized block design with 5 treatments and 6 blocks of ejaculation was applied. The treatments were P0 = 93% skim milk diluent without tris + + 7% glycerol, P1 = 83% skim milk diluent tris + 10% + 7% glycerol, P2 = 73% skim milk diluent tris + 20% + 7% glycerol, P3 = skim milk diluent tris 63% + 30% + 7% glycerol, P4 = skim milk diluent trsi 53% + 40% + 7% glycerol. The results showed that the use of skim milk diluent tris in the P2 treatment exert a highly significant (P <0.01) in maintaining the survival of spermatozoa after freezing Simmental cattle. The results of this study concluded that the use of tris in skim milk dilution to the extent of 20% to maintain the vitality of spermatozoa after freezing Simmental cattle.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the strawberry productivity, the development of bee colony and production of honey bee colonies in the strawberry plantation (Fragaria sp) at agrotourism area in Karang Jaya subdistrict Selupu Rejang Rejang Lebong. Fifteen stup honeybees which are imported from the island of Java were placed at the strawberry plantation. The research variables include the development of the colony, honey production, strawberry production, and supporting variables. The data obtained are presented in tables, figures and analyzed descriptively. Research outputs indicate that the development of bee colonies and honey production were still above average and there was no differences between bees which were placed in strawberry plantation and those were placed far from strawberry. The honey production at strawberry plantation was relatively lower. In contrary, the production of strawberries was higher fromthe average value of 25.55 kg/ha/yieldto 30.8 kg/ha/yield.

Abstract

Kambing Saburai dihasilkan dari persilangan secara grading up antara kambing Boer jantan dengan Peranakan Etawah (PE) betina. Performans produksi merupakan parameter yang dapat digunakan untuk mengetahui kualitas bibit kambing. Pertumbuhan dipengaruhi oleh faktor genetik dan lingkungan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui performans produksi Kambing Saburai di wilayah sumber bibit Kabupaten Tanggamus. Penelitian dilaksanakan menggunakan metode survey, penentuan sampel menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Jumlah sampel yang digunakan adalah 180 ekor Kambing Saburai betina. Peubah yang diamati meliputi bobot lahir, bobot sapih, dan bobot satu tahun, pertambahan bobot badan harian (PBBH) prasapih, PBBH pascasapih, dan ukuran-ukuran tubuh (panjang badan, tinggi pundak, lingkar dada) pada kambing Saburai Betina umur 1 tahun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan di kecamatan Gisting dan Sumberrejo rata-rata bobot lahir 3,3+0,4 kg dan 3,1+0,3 kg, bobot sapih 16,1+3,4 kg dan 14,9+3,7 kg, bobot setahun 37,2+5,01 kg dan 34,7+5,2kg, dan karakteristik morfologi (panjang badan 51,3+6,5 cm dan 51,8+7,8 cm, tinggi pundak 52,3+4,8 cm dan 53,2+5,6 cm, lingkar dada 60,2+8,2 cm dan 58,8+7,8 cm) pada kambing Saburai Betina umur 1 tahun. Abstract

Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui trend pemotongan sapi dan kerbau betina produktif di rumah potong hewan (RPH) dan tempat pemotongan hewan (TPH) pada Kabupaten/Kota di Provinsi Jambi. Penelitian ini menggunakan data yang diperoleh dari ISIKHNAS center Ditjen Peternakan dan Kesehatan Hewan, Kementerian Pertanian Republik Indonesia. Data yang diambil berupa jumlah pemotongan ternak sapi dan kerbau betina produktif perbulan yang dipotong di RPH dan TPH. Metode analisa mengggunakan Uji OLS untuk melihat trend pemotongan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan trend pemotongan sapi betina produktif yang dipotong di RPH dan TPH meningkat dengan rata-rata 9% perbulan dan persentase pemotongan meningkat dengan rata-rata 20,91% perbulan. Sedangkan trend pemotongan kerbau betina produktif di RPH dan TPH meningkat dengan rata-rata 3,37% perbulan dan persentase pemotongan meningkat dengan rata-rata 17,53% perbulan. Trend pemotongan sapi betina produktif meningkat tertinggi terjadi di Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat dan Kabupaten Batanghari. Sedangkan trend pemotongan kerbau betina produktif meningkat tertinggi terjadi di Kabupaten Batanghari. Kata kunci: Kecendrungan, Pemotongan , Sapi, Kerbau, Betina, Produktif
