JRP (Jurnal Review Politik)
Jurnal Review Politik (JRP) is a high-quality peer-reviewed research journal published by the Department of Islamic Political Thought, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, Sunan Ampel State Islamic University, Surabaya. The languages used are Indonesian and English. JRP is published twice a year, June and December. The journal focuses on the studies of Islamic Political Thought, political science, religion and politics, governance issues, and public policies in Indonesia and other Islamic countries. The journal publishes theoretical and empirical research articles to promote and disseminate the academic atmosphere in and around the regions. The journal has areas of concern that include political science, Indonesian politics, gender politics and identity, community welfare, social development, citizenship and public management, public policy, international politics & security, media, information & literacy, religion and politics, digital society and disruption, civil society movement, governance & democracy, radicalism, and terrorism.

The research aims to identify the improvement of public services in the field of management of ID cards in the District of Pakal. The fundamental research questions are how does public services reformation in providing services to the society and what are the supporting and inhibiting factors, as well as strategy of improvement quality service in Pakal of Surabaya? This study suggests that the reform of bureaucracy and the quality of public services was good. It will be support the implementation of bureaucratic reform in order to improve the quality of public services, the change accordant to vision and mission, the application of one-day service even within 30 minutes, evening service and how to improve the profesialisme of apparatus by providing education and training.

Democracy like a double-edged sword, having a positive and negative impacts as well. The positive things of democracy are respect and giving space for minorities to gain equal opportunities in all areas, and creating justice. However, the opening of opportunities to the minorities create friction escalation of religious conflict, ethnicity and culture. This paper will describe the concept of Aswaja of Nahdlatul Ulama and their impact on socio-religious life. The findings of this study states that the concept of Aswaja like tawassuth sifat: i'tidâl, tasâmuh, tawazun, ta'âruf, ta'âwan, and tawâshaw are directly proportional to the tolerance that describes the concept of mutual respect and mutual cooperate on among community groups.

The article describes SutanSjahrir’s struggle for the state and Indonesian people. Sjahrir’s struggle was grounded on democratic revolution and national revolution. The writer has formulated two main questions, are; first, how is the revolution of political parties wished by Sjahrir? Second, how did Sjahrir implement his idea about governmental revolution? The results of the study show that after Indonesianindependence, Sjahrir promulgated what so-called revolution of the political parties. To Sjahrir, the political parties should be in form of the cadres’ parties, not the masses parties. Furthermore, when dealing with the Indonesian governmental system, he contended governmental revolution. In this phase, Sjahrir stressed the importance of functioning of the civil service, police, and agrarian officers. He also called on the empowerment of workers and peasants through political education as democratic revolutionary forces.

Since the end of colonialism in Muslim countries, the political system of nation states can integrate the entire of community, including in Indonesia. Based on the background, this article will answer the question of whether that separates between religious authorities on the one hand, and the political authorities on the other. Political Islam, in particular of the Islamic political movement, trying to unify these two authorities. Mujahideen Movement is one of them. This is an attempt to defend "the interests of Islam" from political marginalization, and various social imbalance, which is thought to occur due to the poor ability of the state to solve community problems. The phenomenon of the movement of Islamic law (Shari'a) which is enforced by MMI Indonesia, known as the Islamic political movement.

This study describes the thinking of Hizbut Tahrir about some of the themes of political economy. It should be studied, because they spreads the ideas of Islamic economics which aimed to political objectives; namely establishing the Caliphate in the world. With the approach of the literature, the results showed that the economic issues which were highlighted by Hizbut Tahrir revolves around the ideas related to the economy from the West, which have political motive. This can be assessed from debt relief, privatization, globalization, and free markets. Hizbut Tahrir considered that the condition of Muslims today are weak both economic and political aspects. On the other hand, Western countries propagate their ideas strongly to Muslim countries.

This study aims to qualitatively describe the political conditions that underlie the development of the movement of HizbutTahrir Indonesia (HTI) in Surabaya, ranging from mobilization to the framing which is done to maintain the continuity of the movement. Hizbut Tahrir is one of the movements of Islamic fundamentalism which exists and shows its rapid development in Indonesia. The organization is growing in several main cities, like Surabaya,where a number of universities with excellent quality are located. This article also explains the emergence and development of this movement using social movements theory. The analyis shows that; first,the emergence and establishment of Hizbut Tahrir are influenced by political structures;second,there is a such mobilization and awareness for the framing process, namely a social attribute and awareness of its members in a number of their collective actions.

This paper aims to describe the characters of women in the revolution of Karbala, then synthesize them into a contemporary context, in order to realize a peaceful of religious communities. The findings showed that the incident of Karbala revolution were dominated by the character of women. Sayyidah Zainab, the sister of Imam Hussein, proved able to raise awareness of people with speech techniques in its efforts against the forces of Yazid. The lessons from these events are a spirit and knowledge, that the history often noted female fighters are very dominant, such as her in Karbala revolutions. Hopefully, the women in general can take the wisdom and learning well. With science and her softness, women were able to minimize conflict so as to create a peaceful society as well as religious.

This research explores the role of Sidoarjo government in regulating the guidance and supervision of the management of traditional and modern markets. The reaserach uses descriptive-qualitative approach and attempts to answer two main questions, are:first, how is the implementation of the decree number 38 year 2012, concerning the business license of traditional and modern markets? Second, are there any infringements of the license committed by modern markets’ owners? The study has indicated that, in the implementation of local government’s regulations, there has been always a strong influence of the modern market. approval of the location permit has been always colored by gratification. Second, there are infringements of the decree committed by the owner of the modern markets with the absence of information dissemination to the small stallsas well as money politics shared to the citizens as their compensation.

After the new order era, Islamic radical movements emerged openly after moving in "underground". Ibn Khaldun's sociological theory of the three stages of society development used to analyze the development of the Islamic radical movement. The findings of the research shows that Salafi movement in Indonesia more accurately described as Hanbalisme movement, or Ibnu Taimiyya movement, hadits scholars movement, or Wahhabism movement. Therefore, if attributed to an entire generation tabi'in and tabi 'al-tabi'in, which was much number of people, the views, characters and their behaviors were contrary with the view of Salafi movement, its nature and behavior.

This article aims to describe the performance of political parties in pilkada. Pilkada as an integral part of local government system is expected to accelerate the ripening process of democracy in local level. In the event of elections (pilkada), political parties in a hurry and prioritize the aspects of winning candidates and provide tickets for candidates who have a chance to win. This article focused to describe the phenomenon of “the big man” at local elite’s recrutmen whom have a big social capital. This phenomena minimize local elites in local politic and creates political transaction in local politics. The findings indicate that political party has been part of this phenomenon.
