Jurnal Review Politik (JRP) is a high-quality peer-reviewed research journal published by the Department of Islamic Political Thought, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, Sunan Ampel State Islamic University, Surabaya. The languages used are Indonesian and English. JRP is published twice a year, June and December. The journal focuses on the studies of Islamic Political Thought, political science, religion and politics, governance issues, and public policies in Indonesia and other Islamic countries. The journal publishes theoretical and empirical research articles to promote and disseminate the academic atmosphere in and around the regions. The journal has areas of concern that include political science, Indonesian politics, gender politics and identity, community welfare, social development, citizenship and public management, public policy, international politics & security, media, information & literacy, religion and politics, digital society and disruption, civil society movement, governance & democracy, radicalism, and terrorism.

This study tries to reveal the influences of political advertising on voting behavior by making the community of bags and shoes craftsmen as objects. The district of Tanggulangin with all the complexity was taken as the field of research. The data obtained from observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. The researchers finally has concluded that the types of political advertising usually used were political ID and billboards, stickers and newspapers. The finding of study showed that there was a strong influence between political advertising in the mass media on the public voting behavior.

This article aims to elaborate the political’s strategy of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in the New Order. NU has a long history at political history in Indonesia. The findings showed that relation between NU and the state always up and downs. In the Old Order, NU became a large Islamic organization in Indonesia, in addition became a political party. In this era, because of simplification of political parties, NU joined to Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP). Unfortunately, NU was being weak because PPP had been dominated with Islamic modern groups. NU back to Khittah 1926 and back to the beginning of agreement in the Old Order era. NU decided for focusing in education field.

This article is based on research about the influence of abstention of education voters inlocal election 2010 in Lamongan. This study was conducted to determine the level of education voters and the effect to educational level on points for abstaining voters in the election. With a quantitative approach that emphasizes the analysis of numerical, data (numbers) are processed with statistical method, and the studied population is 937 people and samples taken at random are 94 people. The results obtained from this study voters who are 17-year-old (adolescent) with graduate of yunior high school, have the character of an unstable and easily influenced, therefore also contribute for making decision in determining the political choice, due to the lack of political education for them.

This article scrutinizes the effect of public’s perception towards legislative candidates in the 2014 local legislative elections in Sidoarjo. Thereis an assumption which perceives that people have their own awareness to choose candidates directly without being influenced by the political parties. This means that legislative candidates posses the same rights in terms of their electability. Using quantitative approach, the results of the research show that the effect between people’s perception towards the candidates along with the voting behavior in the 2014 legislative elections has been “strong enough”on the voting behavior in the 2014 legislative elections in Sidoarjo by 0.454. In other words, 45% of voting behavior has been influenced by public’s perception towards the candidates and 55% of voting behavior was influenced by other factors.

Political coalitions in the multi-party system was an interesting phenomena in the political studies. Theoretically, political coalitions form were very variatif depending on the reason of the existence, duration, interesting, supporting, as well as the system adopted by the government. All of this depends on the interests of political parties. This paper seeks to answer the questions: first, how do the model of coalition of politics in post-Suharto order; second, how do the trends of coalition in post-Suharto order. Based on a literature review, the results showed: first, basically a political coalition formed after Suharto showed two models, legislative coalition and government coalition. Second, the coalition that occurred in Indonesia today tend to be oriented pragmatic, especially on agreements at the political parties level.

This article is a literature study on the concept of state of al-Ma Wardi. In this context, his thoughts on the relationship between the ahl al-'aqd wa al-hall with the caliph and people are interesting matter to be explored. The focus of the articleis how the relationship between the leader and his people should be. The result of this study indicates that the relation between a caliph and the people is a social contract, i.e. common agreement to performduties and obligations based on mutual relation. Therefore, the people should obey their caliph and at the same time a caliph has the duty to protect his people and responsible for them as their leader. Social contract theory of al-Ma> Wardi, which has been written in the 11th century AD, has inspired political theory of a number of Western thinkers such as Hubbert Languet (1519-1581 AD), Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679 AD), and John Locke (1632-1604 AD).

Studies on Shiites in Indonesia has become a serious problem related to the political issues. The existence of Shiite treated less sympathetically by other Islamic groups. This paper was based on a literature review and as well as the opinions expressed by the Indonesian Muslim leaders associated with the Shiites in Indonesia, particularly in Sampang, Madura. The approach in this paper was a political sociology, not theological. The focus of this study, first, explores the difference between Shiite and Sunni Muslims; second, to understand the cause of conflict between Shiite and Sunni Muslims. The findings of this study confirms, there was a difference between Sunnis and Shiites in some aspects. But it must be stressed, the cause of the conflict between Shiites and Sunnis not a theological issue, but a political problem. however, political issues were brought to the theological issues that cause conflicts and clashes such as the case of Sampang.

This article aims to uncover the conflict in Palestine and how the future of Palestine. The conflict in Palestine resulted in endless political chaotic even though there is a resolution of bilateral and international intervention. The future of Israeli-Palestinian peace seems just something utopian considering negotiation efforts always fail applied. The findings of research indicate that the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state is only a dream except the following three factors manifest, first, the merging of the two political factions; Hamas and Fatah in realizing its independence; second, recognition of Israel against the Palestinian authorities so that they can coexist peacefully; and third, such as Mahmoud Ahmedi Nejad statement, "Sending home Jewish community to Europe.”

This article is a historical analysis about the politics of santri. The role and involvement of santri in politics is not a new phenomenon, although the quality and quantity in each political episode is different, but the process and dynamics of Indonesian politics, can not be separated from the involvement of santri. This position is in line with the actual political map of Indonesia. The involvement of santri can describe in four times of the history of Indonesia, namely the pre-independence era, the early of independence until the end of the old order, the new order, and reform era. The fourth periodicity are used to read and analyze the tides of gait of santri in the political world.

The discourse of deliberative democracy in Indonesia has become the serious debate after New Order in Indonesia. This debate is motivated by the need to find a form of democracy that are relevant to Indonesian society. This study used qualitative methods and focused to analyze the theory of deliberative democracy, confirming the view of experts. Further mapping the influence delibratif democracy in Indonesia. The findings of this study indicate an opportunity for deliberative democracy into the spirit, even has been applied in Indonesia. The spirit of democracy in Indonesia lies in the spirit, also known as consensus. The discourse of deliberative democracy in Indonesia is very popularized by Habermasian style of deliberative model which includes various dimensions of life, namely the political, cultural, social, legal, economic and other dimensions.
