Abstract

Most residents of Barrang Lompo Island work as traditional fishermen who rely on fish capture activities using bubu traps. The working relationship between gear owners (punggawa) and field workers (sawi) follows a hereditary profit-sharing system that lacks standardized regulations. This study aims to analyze the income and profit-sharing system of bubu trap fishermen. A descriptive quantitative and qualitative method was applied, with data collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The sample consisted of 23 fishing units selected through a census method. The results showed that fishermen’s income varied by season, with the highest income during peak season at IDR 49,790,841 and the lowest during the off-season at IDR 24,858,667 per month. The applied profit-sharing system allocates 40% of the earnings to the punggawa and 60% to the sawi. However, the current system remains verbal and has not yet guaranteed optimal welfare for the labor fishermen. Therefore, regulations and supervision are necessary to ensure a fairer and more sustainable system.

Abstract

Digital marketing has proven to be an effective solution for boosting sales of fishery products by MSMEs in Biringkanaya District, Makassar City. This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital marketing strategies by MSMEs, measure their impact on sales growth, and identify the factors influencing their implementation. This study employs a quantitative descriptive method, involving 11 MSMEs operators with data collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and observations. Data analysis utilized multiple linear regression to test the significance of digital marketing’s role. The results indicate that 82% of MSMEs have adopted digital marketing, with some businesses experiencing a significant revenue increase of up to 860%. However, challenges such as a lack of technical training and internet infrastructure remain barriers. The results of the partial T-test indicate that sales effectiveness (X2) and marketing techniques (X4) have a significant impact on digital marketing, while the other four variables do not. This confirms that the success of digital marketing is more influenced by marketing strategies than by the educational background or age of the business owners. These findings highlight the importance of ongoing training, mentoring, and infrastructure improvements to support the digital transformation of MSMEs. This study makes a strategic contribution to supporting the development of digital marketing to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs in the fisheries sector.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the type of information technology used and the perception of small-scale fishermen towards its use in livelihood activities in Pallameang Village, Mattirosompe District, Pinrang Regency. The study was conducted in January–February 2025 using a mix method approach, namely a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The number of samples of 30 fishermen was determined through cluster random sampling techniques. Primary data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires, while secondary data were obtained from documents and literature studies. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and using a Likert scale to measure the level of perception. The results showed that the type of information technology most widely used by fishermen was mobile phones (100%) as the main communication tool, followed by GPS (67%) which was used to determine fishing locations. The Windy application is used by 27% of respondents, the Asia & Africa HD application by 10%, while the compass is only used by 7% of respondents. Fishermen's perception of the use of information technology in fishing activities is very good, but its use in marketing the catch is still relatively low. The obstacles faced by fishermen include limited costs, limited internet networks, and low digital literacy. However, all fishermen stated that they strongly agree and are interested in participating in training related to information technology. Therefore, support from various parties is needed to improve access and skills in information technology for fishermen in order to support their work efficiency and welfare in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the financial feasibility and resilience of small-scale capture fisheries under price and production fluctuations in Grabag Sub-district, Purworejo Regency. The analysis focuses on the financial performance of small-scale capture fisheries using feasibility indicators, including Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), R/C ratio, Break Even Point (BEP), as well as sensitivity and switching value analyses. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using primary and secondary data collected through interviews, observations, and document reviews, with a total of 30 respondents. The results indicate that small-scale capture fisheries in Grabag Sub-district are financially highly feasible, as reflected by positive NPV values and IRR levels far exceeding discount rates of 10% and 15%. Sensitivity analysis shows that price and production declines of up to 30% still result in financial feasibility, while switching value analysis demonstrates that the business can withstand substantial reductions in price or production before reaching the non-feasible threshold. These findings suggest that small-scale capture fisheries in Grabag Sub-district have strong financial resilience and promising development prospects.

Abstract

Aquaculture plays a strategic role in supporting food security, economic growth, and the welfare of coastal communities in Indonesia. Turikale District in Maros Regency is one of the regions with high potential for implementing polyculture pond systems, particularly for black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon and milkfish Chanos chanos. This study aimed to evaluate the economic aspects of polyculture pond farming in this area, focusing on profitability and economic feasibility. The research was conducted in response to the growing demand for efficient and sustainable aquaculture models to optimize fisheries resource management. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach, collecting primary data through interviews, questionnaires, and direct field observations involving 24 fish farmers in Taroada Village. Data analysis included calculations of total production costs, total revenues, profit margins, and R/C ratio analysis to assess business efficiency. The total production cost per cycle (6 months) was Rp18,242,320.61, comprising fixed costs of Rp1,036,877.86 and variable costs of Rp17,205,442.75. The total revenue reached Rp27,857,697.22, yielding a net profit of Rp9,615,376.598. Feasibility analysis revealed an R/C ratio of 1.53, indicating that for every Rp1 spent, the business generated Rp1.53 in revenue, thus confirming its economic viability. These findings demonstrate that polyculture farming of black tiger shrimp and milkfish not only provides significant financial returns to farmers but also has the potential to enhance local economic development. It is recommended to expand the implementation of this system while ensuring operational efficiency and sustainable pond management practices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how tariff and non-tariff barriers affect the export volume of octopus commodities from Makassar to destination countries. The method employed is qualitative descriptive with a case study approach, based on secondary data from relevant institutions and interviews with key informants. The analysis focuses on import tariffs in destination countries as well as non-tariff barriers in the form of SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures) and TBT (Technical Barriers to Trade) regulations. The results indicate that although Indonesia does not impose export tariffs on octopus, destination countries still apply varying import duties, which affect the price competitiveness of the product. Non-tariff barriers have a more significant impact on exports, particularly through the enforcement of quality standards, food safety certifications, labeling requirements, and complex product traceability systems. Therefore, to enhance the competitiveness of octopus exports, it is necessary to strengthen the technical capacity of business actors, improve regulatory support, and foster synergy between the government and the private sector. Conclusion. This study concludes that increasing octopus exports to global markets requires adaptive strategies toward international regulations as well as collaboration between the government and business actors to improve product quality, legality, and distribution efficiency.

Abstract

Small-scale capture fisheries play an important role in supporting the livelihoods and economies of coastal communities; however, their sustainability is strongly influenced by business feasibility and appropriate policy support. This study aims to analyze the financial feasibility of capture fisheries as a basis for formulating socio-economic policies for fishers in West Tegal District, Tegal City. The study employed purposive sampling involving 65 fishers as respondents. Primary data were collected through interviews with fishers, while secondary data were obtained from relevant government institutions. The analysis used a socio-economic approach based on business and investment feasibility indicators, including the Revenue-Cost (R/C) Ratio, Break-Even Point (BEP), Payback Period (PP), Return on Investment (ROI), Net Present Value (NPV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). The results indicate that capture fisheries businesses in the study area are economically feasible, as demonstrated by an R/C Ratio of 3.8, an ROI of 36%, an NPV of IDR 570.37 million, and an IRR of 37.44%. These findings indicate that the sustainability of fishers' livelihoods is determined not only by technical production aspects but also by appropriate financing policies and effective management of fishing assets. Therefore, the findings provide a basis for formulating policies that support small-scale fishers through improved access to financing, fishing fleet renewal, and strengthened fisher capacity and institutional arrangements at the local level, as a foundation for socio-economic policies for small-scale capture fisheries.
