Abstract

Climate change exerts multifaceted and profound adverse effects on coastal ecosystems, with Juntinyuat Village, located in Indramayu Regency, serving as a case study of impacted regions. Key consequences include accelerated coastal erosion and the escalation of high wave intensity, both of which pose escalating risks to the livelihoods of populations engaged in tourism, agriculture, and small-scale enterprises. This study aims to analyse the mitigation program implemented through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach of PT Pertamina Gas Operation West Java Area (OWJA) with the "Perisai Jaga Bumi" program. This program involves various community groups in disaster mitigation efforts through mangrove conservation, economic empowerment of vulnerable communities, and the preservation of local culture and wisdom. The study's results show that integrating natural and cultural potential in the CSR strategy can strengthen community resilience against climate change impacts in terms of environment, society, and economy, while also promoting sustainable development in disaster-prone coastal areas. This program is expected to serve as a reference for other regions with similar conditions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Child marriage remains a culturally legitimized practice among the Sasak people through the merariq selarian tradition. This tradition often places women in subordinate roles, depriving them of fundamental rights to education and economic opportunities. The Gawah Bonga Foundation emerges as a local initiative promoting social transformation through a psychological empowerment approach. This study aims to explore how women’s empowerment is fostered through educational, ecological, and economic programs. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this research examines the experiences of women involved in GBF programs in Dusun Bonga. The findings reveal improvements across the three dimensions of psychological empowerment: intrapersonal, interactional, and behavioral. Women demonstrate increased confidence, critical thinking skills, and active participation in their communities. GBF also utilizes religious and cultural approaches to cultivate critical awareness and strengthen women's agency. These results affirm that effective women’s empowerment must be rooted in local contexts and holistic participatory strategies.

Abstract

Jembrana Regency has been facing serious challenges due to gradual forest degradation since 1998, triggered by the practice of ngawen, or the conversion of forest areas into short-term crop plantations. Jembrana Regency experienced the highest rate of tree cover loss in Bali between 2001 and 2020, according to data from Global Forest Watch. In response to this ecological crisis, the Jembrana Regency Government, together with the West Bali Forest Management Unit (UPTD KPH Bali Barat), initiated strict monitoring efforts and strategic partnerships with local communities, including Village Forest Management Institutions (LPHD) and Forest Farmer Groups (KTH). This study focuses on highlighting the significant transformation undertaken by KTH Banu Giri Lestari, which was initially involved in ngawen practices. Today, it has become a pioneer of environmental conservation through a partnership in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) program of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga AFT Ngurah Rai, titled 'Sri Wana Lestari'. This program integrates ecological, social, and spiritual approaches based on local wisdom known as ‘Wana Kertih’, which represents one of the core components of the ‘Tri Hita Karana’ philosophy. It also includes awareness-raising activities, capacity building, and the development of enterprises based on Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs). Through multi-stakeholder synergy, this empowerment model demonstrates significant potential in building a sustainable and inclusive forest management ecosystem. The findings affirm that cross-sector collaboration rooted in local cultural approaches can serve as an effective strategy to address deforestation and enhance the socio-ecological resilience of forest-dependent communities.

Abstract

Poverty in coastal communities is a complex structural issue influenced by low levels of education, skills, access to capital and technology, as well as high dependency on marine capture fisheries. This study aims to develop Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies that contribute to poverty alleviation while supporting Indonesia’s national goals for sustainable development. The case study was conducted in Juntinyuat Village, Indramayu, by utilizing the potential of fisheries and local resources. The methods applied include mapping community potentials and needs, capacity building, and implementing empowerment programs. The findings reveal that the CSR program of PT Pertamina Gas OWJA through JAWARA has improved the welfare of coastal communities through: (1) empowering fishermen’s families and youth with fishery product processing training, (2) waste management based on a circular economy approach through sorting, shredding, and utilization of recyclable plastics, (3) coastal disaster mitigation by planting protective vegetation, and (4) renewable energy utilization via solar power (PLTS) to support community economic activities. The results highlight that a participatory CSR approach not only creates cost efficiency and increases household income but also strengthens socio-economic resilience and environmental sustainability in coastal communities. This CSR program has the potential to serve as a sustainable strategy model to support Indonesia’s poverty eradication agenda while preserving coastal ecosystems.

Abstract

Poverty and unequal access to resources are still problems in Indonesia, so community empowerment through CSR is a strategic step. This research aims to analyze the communication rationality in community empowerment activities through PT Pertamina Rewulu's CSR programs, namely the PETRA Program and the Jati Husada Mulya Mandiri Producer Cooperative. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results showed that the communication was open, participatory, and egalitarian according to Jurgen Habermas' communicative rationality theory, where the community was not only the executor, but also involved in planning, decision-making, and program evaluation. The dialog process that is built allows the achievement of validity claims including truth claims, accuracy claims, and honesty claims. The research findings showed an increase in skills, relationships, and economic productivity of group members, as well as the formation of a sense of community ownership of the program. This research reinforces that CSR implementation based on rational communication not only fulfills corporate obligations, but also increases community empowerment and independence in a sustainable manner.
