Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Islamic gold pawn (rahn) system at Bank Syariah Indonesia Kantor Cabang Pembantu Gunung Tua within the context of Indonesia’s dual sharia pawn framework, where Islamic pawnshops and Islamic banks serve different collateral and financing roles. The research problem addresses how gold-based rahn is operationalized in Islamic banking and whether its practices comply with Sharia principles. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, supported by relevant literature. The findings indicate that the gold pawn system at this branch is structured through clear requirements, contract arrangements, valuation mechanisms, collateral maintenance, maturity and liquidation procedures, and multifunctional customer services. The implementation is continuously supervised by the National Sharia Council (DSN–MUI) and grounded in the Qur’an and Hadith. The study concludes that the gold pawn practices at Bank Syariah Indonesia KCP Gunung Tua conform to Islamic legal principles, reinforcing the view that all forms of muamalah are permissible unless explicitly prohibited by Sharia, thereby validating rahn as a legitimate and socially responsive Islamic financial instrument.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic created profound economic uncertainty that challenged household financial behavior and the sustainability of Islamic rural banking, raising the question of how and why public interest in saving evolved during this period at Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah Al-Washliyah Medan. This study employs a qualitative approach based on observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis to examine the dynamics of saving behavior and the institutional strategies adopted by the bank. The findings demonstrate that public interest in saving increased during the pandemic, shaped by five interrelated dimensions—attention, interest, trust, conviction, and feelings of happiness—although limited household income constrained the ability of many individuals to save. The bank responded to these conditions through a marketing mix (4P) strategy involving product design, pricing, distribution, and promotion, complemented by direct community outreach and the use of digital platforms when school-based socialization was no longer feasible. The study argues that adaptive marketing strategies and strengthened trust-based relationships enabled the bank to maintain and even enhance saving behavior under crisis conditions, confirming the strategic relevance of socially embedded Islamic financial institutions during periods of systemic disruption.

Abstract

This study is situated within the growing competition among Islamic banks, where service quality—particularly teller performance—has become a strategic determinant of customer satisfaction at Bank Syariah Indonesia, Kantor Cabang Pembantu Stabat Proklamasi. It addresses the central question of whether teller services significantly influence customer satisfaction by employing an analytical quantitative design with a sample of thirty-six customers selected from the bank’s client population. Teller service was treated as the independent variable and customer satisfaction as the dependent variable, with data analyzed through validity and reliability tests, normality testing, simple regression, t-tests, and correlation analysis using Microsoft Excel 2007 and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 22.0. The results demonstrate a statistically significant positive effect of teller services on customer satisfaction, with an effect size of 0.651, indicating that approximately 56.1 percent of the variation in customer satisfaction is explained by teller service performance. The remaining variance is attributable to factors outside the regression model. The study argues that strengthening teller professionalism and service responsiveness constitutes a critical pathway for enhancing customer satisfaction and sustaining institutional competitiveness in Islamic banking.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Regional Original Revenue (Pendapatan Asli Daerah / PAD) and Balancing Funds on capital expenditure in Subulussalam City. The implementation of regional autonomy has significantly transformed local governance by granting greater authority and responsibility to regional governments in managing development and public finance. One of the major challenges faced by local governments concerns their capacity to finance public expenditures and prioritize development programs that directly benefit society, particularly through capital expenditure allocation. This study addresses the question of whether PAD and Balancing Funds significantly affect capital expenditure in Subulussalam City. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using secondary data obtained through documentation methods from the Regional Financial Management Agency (BPKD) of Subulussalam City for the 2019–2023 period. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques. The findings reveal that PAD and Balancing Funds partially influence capital expenditure. Simultaneously, both variables demonstrate a positive and significant effect on capital expenditure, as indicated by significance values below 0.05. The study concludes that strengthening regional revenue capacity and optimizing balancing fund allocation are essential for improving regional development through sustainable capital expenditure policies.

Abstract

This study examines public perceptions of online account opening services at Islamic banks in Gunung Tua within the context of rapid digital transformation in the banking sector. The expansion of Islamic banking in the digital era presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in attracting customers through technology-based financial services. The research addresses how Islamic banks implement marketing strategies to increase the number of customers using online account opening services and identifies the obstacles encountered in the implementation process. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through documentation techniques. The findings indicate that online account opening through mobile banking applications provides significant benefits and convenience for both banks and customers, particularly through various online transaction features that support efficiency and accessibility. Islamic banks have also attempted to strengthen their marketing strategies by optimizing digital services and targeting the millennial generation as potential users. However, several inhibiting factors remain, including vulnerability to digital fraud and the requirement for smartphones with adequate specifications to access mobile banking applications. The study concludes that strengthening digital security systems and improving technological accessibility are essential for enhancing customer trust and expanding Islamic banking services in the digital era.
