Abstract

This study examines the role of the ontology approach in enhancing Islamic economic literacy in Indonesia, a strategic effort given the country's low national Sharia Financial Literacy Index, which stood at 43.42% in 2025. Ontology, as a philosophical study of the nature of existence, became the foundation for defining Islamic economics not only as a social science but also as an integral part of Tawheed, in which all economic activity is seen as a mandate from Allah and aims to achieve Falah. This ontological approach is vital because the nature of Islamic Economics is derived from divine revelation, in contrast to conventional economics, which is derived from human thought. Without a deep understanding of this ontological nature, such as the fundamental difference between usury and profit sharing, people tend to equate Shariah products with conventional ones, differing only in their labels. Using a literature study and philosophical content analysis, the study concludes that ontological understanding serves as an epistemological filter that encourages critical thinking, allowing literate individuals to distinguish between renaming and changing the essence. Therefore, ontological integration transforms literacy from surface normative compliance into an authentic systemic and philosophical understanding, which is essential for constructing a just and sustainable Islamic economic system.

Abstract

The Qur’an, as a guide for all humankind in various aspects of life and as a text with profound breadth of meaning, demands great caution in its interpretation. For this reason, Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir) has developed as a distinct discipline that functions to bridge human understanding with the divine messages contained in the Qur’an itself. One of the important principles in the tradition of Qur’anic exegesis is “al-‘ibrah bi ‘umūm al-lafẓ lā bi khuṣūṣ al-sabab.” This principle holds a central position because it ensures that the meaning of Qur’anic verses is not restricted by their specific occasions of revelation (asbāb al-nuzūl) but remains universally applicable across space and time. One of the exegetes widely known for the strength of his interpretations of Islamic law is al-Qurṭubī, through his tafsir work al-Jāmi‘li Aḥkām al-Qur’ān. However, the extent to which al-Qurṭubī consistently applies this principle has been rarely examined. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the application of the principle al-‘ibrah bi ‘umūm al-lafẓ lā bi khuṣūṣ al-sabab in al-Qurṭubī’s tafsir, particularly in relation to legal verses. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design with a library research approach. The primary data source is the classical tafsir al-Jāmi‘ li Aḥkām al-Qur’ān by al-Qurṭubī, while the secondary data consist of supporting literature such as other tafsir works, books on ‘ulūm al-Qur’ān, uṣūl al-fiqh, asbāb al-nuzūl, and studies on tafsir methodology. The findings of this study indicate that al-Qrṭbī is consistent in implementing this principle, in that he does not treat the specificity of the occasion of revelation as a limitation of the legal ruling. In contrast, he takes the generality of the wording of the verse as the main basis for establishing shar‘ī rulings, so that the resulting laws are universal and transcend their historical context, as seen in the cases of polygamy, the penal code for theft, and ẓihār.

Abstract

The law enforcement of corruption crimes within the scope of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) continues to spark debate. The epicenter of the debate has been the use of the Business Judgment Rule (BJR) doctrine by law enforcement officials, which is considered disproportionate. A fundamental issue that has been overlooked is the scope of state finances. Excessively broad state financial regulations create grey areas and tend to contribute to chaos in law enforcement. The cases of Richard Joost Lino in 2009 and Ira Puspadewi in 2025 seem to prove that the real problem is not solely related to the use of the Business Judgment Rule doctrine, but more fundamentally to the scope of state finances. The enactment of Law Number 1 of 2025 concerning the Third Amendment to the Law on State-Owned Enterprises, which separates state finances from state-owned enterprise finances, reopens this discourse. Using normative legal research, with a legislative, conceptual, and case approach, this article seeks to respond to several criticisms that have arisen, particularly the assumption that the Law on State-Owned Enterprises will become an instrument that exacerbates corruption within the scope of state-owned enterprises. The analysis shows that several provisions in the State-Owned Enterprises Law clarify the boundaries between state finances and state-owned enterprise finances. This legal instrument is not an obstacle; rather, it provides clear guidelines for law enforcement officials to combat corruption within state-owned enterprises.

Abstract

The determination of the Hadd for theft in QS al-Ma’idah:38 has long been a point of contention between legal textualism and social reality. This verse is often understood literally, without considering the socio-historical context of the revelation. This article aims to reconstruct the normative meaning of the verse through an analysis of Asbabun Nuzul and the Maqasid al-Shariah approach to reaffirm substantive justice in Islamic law. This study employs a qualitative–descriptive method based on library research, using comparative analysis of classical exegesis (al-Ṭabarī, Ibn Kathīr, al-Qurṭubī) and reformist-modern exegesis (Ibn ‘Āshūr, Rashīd Riḍā, Jasser Auda). The findings show that the Hadd is not intended merely as a punitive instrument but as a moral symbol to safeguard social stability once distributive justice is established. This normative reinterpretation affirms that implementing the Hadd without fulfilling social justice contradicts the Maqasid of Islamic law. In conclusion, authentic Islamic law is not a system of punishment but a divine moral system aimed at honoring human beings and manifesting God’s mercy in social life.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the social functions of the Galombang Dance within the dynamics of the Minangkabau community life in Padang City. The Galombang Dance serves not only as a form of entertainment or aesthetic expression but also as a sociocultural medium that reflects traditional values, communal solidarity, and respect for guests. This research employed a qualitative method, with data collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically using an interpretive approach to understand the social and cultural meanings embedded in the performance of the Galombang Dance. The findings reveal that the Galombang Dance functions to strengthen community solidarity, reaffirm Minangkabau cultural identity, and adapt to ongoing social changes. Although its forms and modes of presentation have undergone transformation, the traditional values and social functions it embodies continue to be preserved by the supporting community. Thus, the Galombang Dance can be understood as a form of living local wisdom that remains adaptive to contemporary developments.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of single-judge hearings at the Religious Court of Lumajang based on Chief Justice’s Decree Number 215/KMA/HK2.6/XI/2024. This policy was introduced as a strategic response to the increasing number of cases that exceeded the available number of judges. Through this mechanism, the judicial process is expected to operate more efficiently while upholding the principles of fast, simple, and low-cost justice. This study employs an empirical legal method using a qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observations, interviews with judges and court officers, and the analysis of official documents. This approach enables a comprehensive understanding of how the policy is implemented in practice and provides an objective assessment of its effectiveness. The findings demonstrate that the single-judge system has been implemented effectively, according to Soerjono Soekanto’s theory of legal effectiveness. The policy fulfills five determining factors: clear legal substance, competent law enforcers, adequate facilities, community acceptance, and an adaptive legal culture. These components collectively support the smooth execution of this system. Overall, the single-judge mechanism contributes significantly to improving judicial performance at the Lumajang Religious Court. This accelerates case resolution and strengthens public trust in the judiciary. Thus, this system represents an important step in the broader reform of Indonesia’s religious-court system.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the twenty-first century has significantly transformed the way humans communicate, think, and interact. Language, as the primary medium of communication, has expanded beyond transmitting messages. It now serves as the foundation for digital identity formation, media literacy, and mastery of twenty-first-century competencies, including critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. This study aims to analyze the roles and functions of language in modern human life and identify the linguistic challenges that emerge in the digital era. Using a literature study method with a qualitative descriptive approach based on document analysis following Sugiyono’s guidelines, this research reveals that language holds a strategic position in education, society, and technology. Language supports information processing, social relationship building, and individual adaptation to global environments. However, several challenges arise, such as the excessive use of abbreviations and digital symbols that lead to ambiguity, low levels of digital literacy, and increasing risks of misinformation and misinterpretation in cross-cultural communication. The study concludes that strengthening language and digital literacy is essential to ensure that individuals can effectively adapt to technological changes and maintain ethical, clear, and meaningful communication in the digital age.

Abstract

Violence, discrimination, and injustice against children and women in Muslim families remain a social problem of concern. One of the root problems is the low level of understanding of the values of the Qur'an, which actually contains the principles of protection, compassion, and justice for all family members. This study aims to examine the concept of Qur'anic literacy as an instrument for fostering awareness and practice of protecting the rights of children and women in Muslim families. Using a qualitative approach based on library research, this study traces relevant verses of the Qur'an, such as QS. An-Nisa', QS. Luqman, and QS. Al-Ahzab, as well as studying classical and contemporary scholars' interpretations of the values of justice ('adl), compassion (rahmah), and respect for human dignity (karamah insaniyyah). The study’s results show that Qur'anic literacy not only includes the ability to read and understand texts, but also includes the internalization of values and their application in family life. Strong Qur'anic literacy encourages the creation of balanced family relationships between rights and obligations, as well as a moral foundation for preventing violence and violations of the rights of children and women. Therefore, strengthening Qur'anic literacy needs to be integrated into family education, Islamic educational institutions, and socio-religious policies to realize a just, harmonious, and civilized Muslim family.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Qur'anic literacy as a conceptual and practical foundation for shaping sakinah (harmonious) and just families amid the challenges of modernity, value disruption, and global spiritual crises. Qur'anic literacy is understood not merely as the ability to read the sacred text, but as an internalization of divine values that cultivates moral, spiritual, and social awareness within Muslim family life. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes primary and secondary sources, including classical and contemporary tafsir, scholarly books, and scientific articles published in the past five years. Thematic analysis was used to explore Qur'anic principles relevant to the formation of harmonious and equitable family structures. The findings reveal that Qur'anic literacy serves as an epistemological foundation for developing ethical and egalitarian perspectives on spousal relationships and child-rearing. Families with a high level of Qur'anic literacy tend to maintain balanced roles, strengthen spiritual communication, and foster compassion-based dynamics within the household. Furthermore, integrating Qur'anic literacy with digital technology plays a significant role in reinforcing moral education and family resilience in the contemporary era. This study concludes that contextual and reflective Qur'anic literacy is crucial for building Muslim families that are not only harmonious and just but also serve as the cornerstone of Qur'anic civilization grounded in humanism, inclusivity, and social justice.

Abstract

This study examines how Indonesian universities and the country’s evolving practice of science diplomacy jointly contribute to advancing the national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and relying on secondary data, this study analyzes the institutional roles, strategic initiatives, and policy frameworks that shape Indonesia’s SDGs implementation. The first part of the findings highlights the multidimensional role of universities through their core mandates of education, research, and community services. Universities are identified as key drivers of mainstreaming sustainability values into curricula, producing evidence-based research that informs policy, and implementing community outreach programs that directly address local development challenges. The second part explores Indonesia’s science diplomacy as an emerging tool for linking domestic scientific priorities to global platforms. Science diplomacy enables Indonesia to showcase local knowledge, attract international collaboration, and position its scientific innovations in global discussions on climate action, health security, and sustainable development. Together, universities and science diplomacy create complementary pathways to strengthen Indonesia’s SDGs ecosystem. The study concludes that integrating academic expertise with diplomatic engagement is essential for enhancing Indonesia’s global visibility and ensuring that local sustainability efforts contribute meaningfully to global SDGs targets.
