Abstract

Background and Research Objectives: This study investigates Bultmann's hermeneutics, particularly the concept of demythologization used to interpret myths as existential statements, and its application in the study of Hadith. The objective is to explore how Bultmann's approach can uncover existential meanings relevant to contemporary humans and compare its applicability within Islamic studies. Methodology: This research employs a descriptive-analytical-critical approach by examining various academic texts and reputable international journals published in the last ten years. A comparative analysis between Bultmann's hermeneutics and Hadith studies is conducted to assess the potential of demythologization in an Islamic context. Main Findings: The findings reveal that demythologization aids in understanding the psychological and sociological dynamics behind mythological narratives in both Christian and Islamic contexts. It allows for the reinterpretation of mythological elements in Hadith to highlight underlying existential messages without diminishing the historical value of these religious texts. Involvement: This study significantly contributes to hermeneutical literature by extending Bultmann's concept of demythologization to Islamic studies. It opens new avenues for understanding Hadith texts in ways that align with contemporary intellectual needs. Conclusion: The research concludes that Bultmann's hermeneutical approach through demythologization offers a flexible framework for understanding the spiritual and moral meanings behind myths. This approach is relevant not only in Christian theology but also in Islamic studies, enabling new understandings of religious texts that resonate with the intellectual needs of contemporary humans.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: This study addresses the patriarchal bias prevalent in traditional Qur’anic exegesis, which often privileges male perspectives and neglects women’s experiences. Such interpretations can lead to gender injustices justified by certain verses. The primary objective is to explore Amina Wadud’s holistic hermeneutic approach, which aims to affirm gender equality in Qur’anic interpretation. Methodology: Employing a qualitative literature-based approach, this research integrates thematic (maudu’i) exegesis, philological analysis, and a women’s perspective. Additionally, the study draws on Hans-Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutic concepts of prejudice, fusion of horizons, and dialogue, thereby enriching a holistic framework for Qur’anic interpretation. Main Findings: The findings indicate that the Qur’an fundamentally supports gender equality. Both men and women share equal rights, obligations, and potentials—whether in worship, social roles, or broader achievements. When examined holistically, verses addressing inheritance, human origins, and gender relations emphasize justice and balance rather than legitimizing any form of gender dominance. Contributions: This research contributes by proposing a more responsive interpretive method that engages contemporary issues of gender equality. The holistic hermeneutic approach encourages re-examining verses often misunderstood in traditional commentary. Consequently, it provides a valuable resource for Islamic education, social policy, and women’s empowerment initiatives. Conclusion: This study concludes that the Qur’an does not endorse patriarchy or matriarchy but rather underscores justice and equality. While the findings remain mostly theoretical, this approach opens avenues for further research on policy implementation and inclusive, gender-just education systems.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Nūr is one of the Qur'an’s names reflecting its unique function and significance. While nūr generally means “light,” the Qur’an also uses Ḍiyā’, another word for light, though with a different nuance. This study aims to clarify why the Qur’an is called nūr and to explore its significance in guiding human life. Methodology: This literature-based research draws from books, journals, articles, and relevant written sources. Employing Roland Barthes’ semiotics, it conducts two levels of analysis: a linguistic analysis to determine the literal meaning of nūr in QS. Ash-Shura [42]:52 through dictionaries and various tafsīr; and a mythical analysis, examining contextual elements like verse type, historical background, and symbolic references. Main Findings: Nūr signifies a light possessing unique merit, while Ḍiyā’ denotes common illumination without the same distinction. Therefore, the Qur’an is called nūr to emphasize its exalted role. As nūr, the Qur’an serves as a guiding beacon, directing individuals toward truth and righteous conduct. Contributions: This study enriches tafsir literature by clarifying the Qur’an’s purpose as nūr, particularly in QS. Ash-Shura [42]:52. Conclusion: Nūr represents Allah’s power to influence human hearts, guiding them from the darkness of error and immorality to the brightness of faith and virtuous deeds. By fostering a morally upright society, the Qur’an as nūr contributes to peace and harmony in human life

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The seeds of Islamic sects arose immediately after the death of the Prophet and the occurrence of wars between the companions, so each of these sects based their thoughts on a specific position they took in that war. When the number of sects and doctrines increased and different opinions spread in the Islamic faith, a group of Muslim scholars came out to record these opinions and write down the movements of the sects, whether geographically or historically, so as a result, what is called the Ilm al-Maqālāt arose, and this has become an essential part of many books written from the late second century Hijri calendar, some books were specially written in this field, such as the book of Maqālāt al-Islāmiyyin by Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari, while the Maqālāt became a part of other books. Methodology: Al- Nadīm is one of the authors who was concerned with the authorship movement during the three centuries of the Hijri calendar, so he intended to record all the books that fell into his hands in all fields, whether religious or non-religious. Al- Nadīm took care in all this to record the authorship movement of the famous Islamic sects, so he mentioned important information about Islamic sects such as Mu'tazila, Kharijites, Shiites and others, this information is related to the books written sometimes and other times related to the theologians themselves. Main Results: Our article monitored Al-Nadim's interest in this aspect. Research Contribution: This article was divided into an introduction, a conclusion, and three main headings; the introduction mentioned information about al-Fihrist by al- Nadīm, while the main headings dealt with al- Nadīm's life and information about him, the second heading discussed the section on the theologians, and sects, and the last heading shed light on the sources used by al- Nadīm in this section. Conclusion: This study underlines the importance of al-Nadīm's work in documenting the intellectual and theological history of Islamic sects, providing a foundational reference for scholars in Islamic studies and historiography.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The recurring global economic recession has exacerbated financial challenges, particularly among Muslim families practicing uncontrollable procreation without considering their economic means. This study aims to examine the implications of procreation through the lens of Shari‘ah, emphasizing the correct understanding of Qur’anic and Prophetic guidance on the topic. It seeks to highlight the balance between religious encouragement for procreation and the financial and spiritual responsibilities mandated by Islamic law. Methodology: Employing a doctrinal methodology, the research relies on primary sources—the Qur’an and Hadith—supplemented by secondary materials, including the opinions of classical and contemporary Islamic scholars. Content analysis is used to derive and analyze the relevant principles from these sources. The main results: The study finds that misinterpretations of certain Qur’anic verses (e.g., Chapter 17:31) and Prophetic Hadith on procreation have led to practices of unchecked procreation, compounding financial difficulties for many families. This research contribution: a new dimension by framing procreation within the context of maqasid al-Shari‘ah (objectives of Islamic law), advocating a preventive approach that integrates religious obligations with socio-economic realities. Conclusion: the dual religious and financial responsibilities of parents, as mandated by the Qur’an and Hadith, emphasizing that procreation should be undertaken responsibly to avoid poverty and societal burdens
