Abstract

This article aims to comprehensively explain the meaning, history, and types of interpretive rules, along with examples of their implementation in interpreting the Qur'an. The research method employed is library research, examining authentic primary sources related to interpretive rules as the main foundation required for an interpreter. The results indicate that interpretive rules, known as qawa'id al-Tafsir, are basic guidelines generally applied to gain a deep understanding of Quranic instructions. Historically, the emergence of these rules as an independent science was pioneered by Ibn Taimiyah (661-728 H). This writing identifies eight distinct types of rules: the rules of the Qur'an, Sunnah, language, isytiqaq, balaghah, ushul fiqh, qira'at, and science. Furthermore, the article discusses the development of interpretive rules in the modern era, which utilizes the maudhu'i (thematic) method by significantly considering the socio-historical conditions faced by each interpreter today.

Abstract

The moral crisis among the younger generation has become a serious challenge in modern society, especially amid the rapid currents of globalization, digital information, and swift cultural changes. Phenomena such as promiscuity, drug abuse, the erosion of moral values, and the rise of cybercrime indicate that many youths are losing direction in life and experiencing a crisis of spiritual identity. This study aims to analyze the main causes of the moral crisis and formulate solutions from the perspective of the Qur’an. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and the thematic interpretation method (tafsir maudh?’i), this research connects relevant Qur’anic verses with contemporary social realities. The findings reveal that weak faith, family neglect, negative environmental influences, and a lack of role models are dominant factors in the moral decline of adolescents. As a solution, the Qur’an offers a moral foundation through aqidah education, the cultivation of exemplary values (uswah hasanah), and the strengthening of self-control (muhasabah). This study highlights the importance of collaboration between families, educational institutions, and society in revitalizing Qur’anic values as both preventive and curative efforts against the moral degradation of the younger generation.

Abstract

In general, a Muslim’s life has two main dimensions: the vertical dimension (the relationship with Allah) and the horizontal dimension (the relationship with fellow human beings). This study examines the role of social media, specifically the YouTube channel Tafsir Kediri, which presents an interpretation of Surah Al-Baqarah verses 42–43 by Dr. Abdur Rohman. The aim is to analyze a modern, millennial-oriented style of Qur’anic interpretation that still incorporates Javanese/Indonesian local wisdom. The method employed is content analysis, involving data selection, categorization, interpretation, and the drawing of conclusions. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the vertical and horizontal relationships in Islam are complementary; (2) prayer (?al?h) and almsgiving (zak?t) serve as the foundation of obedience as well as social harmony; and (3) a believer’s faith is also reflected in an attitude of caring for and protecting the environment as a trust from Allah.

Abstract

Studies on child rearing from the perspective of the Qur'an tend to be normative and have not yet integrated a thematic interpretation approach that focuses on Qur'anic narratives. This gap indicates the need for studies that connect the moral lessons found in the stories of the prophets with contemporary child-rearing practices. This study aims to analyze the educational values contained in the stories of Moses and Aaron, as well as Moses and Samiri, in Tafsir al-Hadith by Muhammad Izzat Darwazah, and to explain their relevance to Islamic family education. This research employs a qualitative method based on library study, using thematic interpretation and content analysis approaches. The findings show that Darwazah’s interpretation, arranged according to the chronological order of revelation, integrates revelation, historical context, and educational values. The key values identified include strengthening faith, offering wise counsel, avoiding arrogance, and being cautious of misleading influences. These findings contribute to the development of a Qur'anic child-rearing model that balances spiritual, moral, and social dimensions within the context of contemporary Islamic family education.

Abstract

This study discusses the relationship between the Qur’anic verses and modern geology through a scientific exegesis approach. The background of this research stems from the belief that the Qur’an not only contains moral and spiritual guidance but also reflects scientific principles that can be revealed through contextual interpretation. The main objective of this study is to explain the harmony between the Qur’an’s explanations of natural phenomena and modern geological theories such as the earth’s equilibrium, the formation of mountains, and the dynamics of the earth’s crust. The method used is a qualitative descriptive analysis of the interpretations of Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy, Sayyid Quthb, and M. Quraish Shihab on three verses, namely QS. An-Nahl [16]:15, QS. Ar-Ra‘d [13]:3, and QS. Adz-Dzariyat [51]:47–48. The results of the study indicate that the concept of mountains as stabilizers of the earth, the continuous process of land formation, and the expansive motion of the universe reflect the compatibility between the revealed text and modern geological principles. In conclusion, the Qur’an implicitly contains scientific values that support the understanding of natural laws and reinforce the view that revelation and science complement each other. This research contributes to enriching scientific exegesis studies and encourages synergy between religious knowledge and modern science to build an integrative understanding of God’s creation.

Abstract

The phenomenon of silent treatment in the digital era—manifested through ghosting, seen-zoning, and blocking—reflects a communication crisis that affects psychological well-being and the stability of family relationships. This practice bears an essential resemblance to the classical Islamic concept of Il?’. This study aims to analyze the connection between Il?’ and silent treatment through the perspective of M. Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir al-Mishbah. The research employs a normative-prescriptive legal method with a qualitative, literature-based approach, examining Qur’anic verses on Il?’, classical fiqh literature, modern psychological studies, and contemporary family law regulations. The findings show that the Qur’an limits Il?’ to four months to prevent emotional neglect, whereas digital silent treatment is unrestricted and tends to become a form of psychological abuse. Tafsir al-Mishbah emphasizes ethical communication and mu‘?syarah bi al-ma‘r?f as corrective principles for modern relational neglect. The study concludes that the corrective values of Il?’ are relevant for formulating communication guidelines in digital-era family life.

Abstract

The Qur'an, as the main source of Islamic teachings, was revealed in Arabic, a language rich in linguistic diversity and semantic depth, so that every word used has multiple meanings and is contextual. One of the keywords that has a central position in the Qur'an is the word zakat. Until now, studies on zakat have mostly focused on fiqhiyah aspects and legal practices, while linguistic studies and textual interpretations of the word zakat in the Qur'an are still relatively limited. In fact, the use of the word zakat in various verses shows a diversity of meanings that are not singular, as well as a development of meaning in line with the context of revelation. This study aims to analyze the use of the word zakat in the Qur'an by tracing its linguistic form, the context of the verses, and its diversity of meanings. This study is a library based qualitative research. Primary data consists of verses from the Qur'an containing the word zakat and its derivatives, while secondary data comes from classical and contemporary tafsir books, as well as relevant scientific literature. Data analysis was conducted using the Qur'anic semantic approach developed by Toshihiko Izutsu to reveal the basic and relational meanings of the word zakat, as well as the maudhu'i (thematic) interpretation method to systematically examine the verses on zakat based on the Makkiyah and Madaniyah contexts. The results of the study show that the word zakat in the Qur'an has a dynamic and multidimensional meaning. In the Makkiyah verses, zakat emphasizes the purification of the soul and the formation of individual moral values. Meanwhile, in the Madaniyah verses, zakat develops into an institutional and normative socio-economic obligation. This finding confirms that zakat is a Qur'anic concept that encompasses spiritual, social, and moral dimensions in an integrated manner. This study is expected to enrich the semantic study of the Qur'an and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the concept of zakat from the perspective of the Qur'an.

Abstract

The moral and spiritual crisis has become an increasingly prominent phenomenon in contemporary society, marked by a weakening orientation towards divine values, rising materialism, and the degradation of individual and social ethics. This study aims to thematically analyze verses from the Qur'an about prayer and relate them to the reality of the contemporary moral and spiritual crisis in order to demonstrate their theoretical and practical relevance. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach through a literature review with primary data in the form of Qur'anic verses related to prayer, specifically QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 43, QS. Thaha [20]: 14, and QS. Al-'Ankabut [29]: 45, as well as secondary data from tafsir literature and scientific articles. Data analysis was carried out using a thematic (maudhu'i) tafsir approach. The results of the study show that prayer in the perspective of the Qur'an has integrated theological, spiritual, moral, and social dimensions and functions as a means of forming divine consciousness and human ethics. This study concludes that prayer is a relevant Qur'anic response to the moral and spiritual crisis in the modern era.
