Abstract

This research focuses on analysis student problems in learning to speak English at Vocational High School number 1 Jambi City. This research used qualitative research design. The aims of this research was to find out what problems students faced in speaking English during the covid-19 pandemic and the solutions students made to overcome these problems. In this case, a direct analysis of the problems faced by students in learning to speak English in the classroom during the covid-19 pandemic. This research took six students of class XI Accounting 1 as research subjects. This research used interview sheets and interviewed students to collect data. Based on the results of the study, regarding the problems of students in learning to speak at Vocational High School number 1 Jambi City, there were several student problems during the pandemic, located in the sixth question about the difficulty of speaking English, namely, lack of confidence, embarrassed to speak English, online learning made students feel less confident. self-confident. learning time in class, so that the problems faced by students are lack of pronunciation, fear of making mistakes when speaking English, lack of motivation of students in speaking English, students get into trouble because it is based on problems experienced and experienced by themselves. that happens in everyday life. In learning to speak English, and based on interviews, there are solutions to the problem, such as, using more English, translating sentences on Google, by listening to English music.

Abstract

This study aims to find out what are the students' problems in using English pronouns in using personal and possessive pronouns at SMP Negeri 15 Jambi. In this study, this research used qualitative research. The subjects of this study were class VIIG students of SMP Negeri 15 Jambi in the academic year 2021/2022. All problems in the use of pronouns have been categorized and identified, namely subject, object, possessive adjective, and possessive pronoun. In simple terms, the students face more problems in using object pronouns. This can be seen from the percentage results where the problem of using object pronouns is 35.2%, questions are answered incorrectly. Meanwhile, at least students face problems in using possessive pronouns by 14.4%.  The result of this research found that the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Jambi mostly face the problem of using object pronouns, which is the most difficult thing for students because they do not really understand how to use object pronouns.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the students' skill in writing recount text at Senior High School 8 Jambi City. This research was conducted at Senior High School 8 Jambi City. The research design used quantitative. The approved in this research is descriptive quantitative. The population of this research was students of class XI at Senior High School 8 Jambi City. The sample of this research was 36 students of class XI IPA 1 selected using simple random sampling. This research used a written test instrument, a written test in the form of an essay test to make a recount text about best experience in holiday. The technique of data collection of this research used test as a research instrument. The technique of data analysis of this research are tabulating the students’ score, calculating the students’ score, and give the score classification. This finding shows that students’ skill in writing recount text are based on generic structure in writing recount text. First, the orientation with an average of 8,94 or including excellent criteria, second, the events with an average of 9,17 or including excellent criteria, and lastly, the reorientation with an average of 7,28 or including good criteria. From the results of the data, 2 generic structure are classified as excellent and 1 generic structure that classified as good. This proves that at the level of students’ skill in writing recount text academically, they are still classified as excellent.

Abstract

This study aims was to determine students' perceptions in implementing blended learning model on reading comprehension in class IX students of SMP Negeri 6, Jambi City. The pandemic situation forced schools to issue new rules in the implementing of learning model in the classroom using blended learning model. This also changes perception of students in the learning carried out by the teacher in the classroom to help the process of students' thinking skills in reading comprehension a text or edulogy application. The research methodology in this study is a qualitative research design whose analysis requires in-depth observation. The subjects in this research were students of class IX A SMPN 6 Jambi City, using purposive sampling, which collected six students as participants, consisting of grades 1-6 and ages 14–15 years. This research gave 7 interviews in class. The results showed that IX students of SMP Negeri 6 Jambi City had difficulty comprehension English in the implementing of the blended learning model, but students also became more independent, disciplined, responsible, and diligent during the implementing of this blended learning model. because of the short learning time. The implementing of the blended learning model is carried out if the teacher wants to teach the material face-to-face and online alternately or using shifts during the learning process.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of to know students’ speaking skills, especially in the component of speaking skills in the ninth grade of Junior High School 6 Jambi City. This research was designed using descriptive quantitative research methods. The population of this study was the ninth-grade students at Junior High School 6 Jambi City, and the sample was grade IX B students. This study uses a test as a research instrument. Then the test results are assessed. The test used is an oral test. The oral test is made with the theme of "My family" which is determined by this research. The learning method is through a speaking test in front of the class with the theme "My Family". The results of this study indicate the scores of the five components of speaking skills. The components of speaking skills are grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and pronunciation. The findings of this study indicate that the mean overall component of speaking skill score is 1,60. In the grammar component, 3 or 8,33% of students scored in the poor categories, 7 or 19,44% of students scored in the fair categories, 18 or 50% of students scored in the good categories, and in the excellent are 8 or 22,22%. In the vocabulary component, no one got scored poor, students scored in the fair categories are 11 or 30,55%, 18 or 50% of students scored in the good categories, and students scored in the excellent categories are 7 or 19.44%. In the comprehension component, no one got scored poor, 7 or 19,44% of students scored in the fair categories, 14 or 38.88% of students scored in the good categories, and in the excellent categories 15 or 41,66%In the fluency component, no one got scored poor, students scored in the fair categories are 8 or 22,22%, 16 or 44,44% of students scored in the good categories, 12 or 33,33% of students scored in the excellent categories. In the pronunciation component, no one got scored poor, 8 or 22,22% of students scored in the fair categories, 11 or 30.55% of students scored in the good categories, and 17 or 47,22% of students scored in the excellent categories. The mean and percentage values explain that the speaking skills of class IX students, especially class IX B at SMP Negeri 6 Jambi City is very good.

Abstract

This study aims to determine analyze some students' ability about learning English in Destorel English Club of senior high school 8 in the city of Jambi. This research is a mix method research. The data collection technique was obtained through interview and recorded. The results showed that according to students learning English is very easy to understand if students want to learn to understand it, the interest of students of senior high school 8 Jambi city in receiving learning is also supported by learning support facilities such as books, English dictionaries, and other online English dictionary sites. In addition, the assignment given by the teacher also raises student ability.  Based on the research results, it can be concluded that according to students speaking ability in speaking English is very easy. Students' difficulties in receiving learning is also supported by supporting facilities for learning English such as books and dictionaries. Teachers always use two languages to interact with their students in learning English, namely by mixing Indonesian. Students always actively ask teachers and friends about learning English that students do not know, and students do not apply English in their daily life due to lack of vocabulary and lack confidence in interacting with other people in using English.

Abstract

This research was included in quantitative research which aims to find out the problems and factors experienced by students so that it affects their difficulties in completing the thesis. The subjects of this study were 19 students of the 2018 English Department of Batanghari Jambi University who had completed their thesis. This research collected data through questionnaires distributed online using Google form. In this research, three main factors are identified that affecting undergraduate thesis writing. First, psychological factors which include self-esteem, anxiety, and motivation. Furthermore, the second factor is socio-cultural factors which include the social distance among each student and the social distance between students and supervisors. Lastly, linguistic factors which include domain error analysis and extent of error analysis. The results showed that psychology factors got a percentage of 40.36%, socio-cultural factors got a percentage of 29.66%, and linguistic factors got a percentage of 29.96%. Thus, it can be concluded that the most influencing factor in the difficulty of students completing the thesis is the psychological factor.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out what are the learning style used by the students at the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 3 Jambi City. The research methodology of this study was quantitative descriptive research which involved population and sample. The total population of this research was the XI MIPA 1 students of Senior High School 3 Jambi City, which consisted of 28 students. In collecting the data, This research gave questionner as the instrument to collect the data at the class. The result of the research showed that the eleventh grade students of Senior High School 3 Jambi City learn English vocabulary in various ways. Moreover, the students with the highest percentage was found in auditory learning style (43%), then followed by visual learning style (21%), and the last kinesthetic learning style (21%). This research also found some students with multiple learning style which is visual/kinesthetic learning style (11%) and auditory/kinesthetic learning style (4%). This research concluded that students have different learning style in learning English, and they have a different way of developing their English skills in learning.

Abstract

The purpose of conducting this research is to know the student’s errors in writting descriptive text at seventh grade of SMP Laboratorium Jambi City. The research design of this research is quantitative with descriptive approach. The method used in this study is a qualitative description. Fifteen seventh-grade junior high school students were the subjects in this study. The population of this research are 10 students and research used total sampling technique. The data of this research were collected through the test. The data were analyzed by using descriptive quantitative. The result showed that the seventh grade of SMP Laboratorium Jambi City, there are still some mistakes in writing descriptive texts about people, animals, and objects.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the students' perception of using worksheet in English Online Learning at the Ninth Grade Junior High School Number 2 Jambi City. This research methodology in this study is qualitative research design whose analysis setting of the research requires in-depth observation. The subjects of this study were students of class ninth grade junior high school number 2 Jambi city, was used Purposive sampling totaling six students as participants consisting of two students from low scores, two students from minimum scores, and two students from high scores and two students with high grades, and active students who get ranks from one to six. In collecting data this research gave interviews in class. The results showed that class IX students of SMPN 2 Jambi City this researchs found some difficulties in capturing meaning in the learning process using online worksheets but can help children's success in the process of learning English online. Worksheet can be    helps teachers and students in online learning so that students can use worksheet correctly and easily in implementing the application of worksheet in online learning.
