Abstract

Caesarean section delivery often triggered anxiety in pregnant women due to its invasive and risky nature. One method to reduce preoperative anxiety related to caesarean section was by administering Murottal Al-Qur’an therapy. Murottal Al-Qur’an was believed to help calm the patient's psychological condition through spiritual approaches and sensory stimulation, allowing mothers to feel more relaxed and think positively and optimistically. This study aimed to determine the effect of Murottal Al-Qur’an therapy on reducing anxiety levels in mothers before undergoing caesarean section. This research was a quasi-experimental study using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The instrument used was the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the paired t-test. A total of 17 subjects were selected using purposive sampling. The results showed that Murottal Al-Qur’an therapy had a significant effect on reducing maternal anxiety levels before caesarean section, with a p-value of 0,000 (p < 0,05). It is expected that this study could serve as a reference and be applied as an intervention for patients undergoing caesarean section to help reduce preoperative anxiety levels.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition with an increasing prevalence worldwide, including in Indonesia. According to IDF data from 2021, the global prevalence of DM was 10.5%, and it is predicted to rise to 12,2% by 2045. Managing DM focuses significantly on controlling postprandial blood sugar levels, as it plays a crucial role in prevention efforts. This study investigated the relationship between dietary and exercise patterns and postprandial blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus patients at the Kaliwungu Health Center. Using a correlational study design, the research targeted 164 registered DM patients, with 115 participants selected via purposive sampling. Data on diet and exercise were collected through questionnaires, while postprandial blood sugar levels were measured using an electric glucose test. The analysis utilized the Pearson correlation test or the Spearman rho test for non-normally distributed data. The results revealed a p-value of <0,001 (p-value < 0,05) significance level, confirming a significant relationship between diet and exercise patterns and postprandial glucose levels. Contingency coefficients of 0,588 and 0,532 demonstrated a moderately strong association between these variables.

Abstract

Poor personal hygiene during menstruation had a significant impact on morbidity and complications. Lack of menstrual hygiene awareness was influenced by knowledge and attitudes, as well as external factors such as parental, teacher, peer support, and exposure to information. This study aimed to determine the effect of video-based health education on knowledge, attitudes, and personal hygiene practices during menstruation. The study employed an experimental pre-posttest design. The study population consisted of 98 female students. The sample was divided into two groups: a control group and a treatment group. The results showed differences in the mean scores for knowledge (p-value=0,021), attitudes (p-value=0,000), and practices (p-value=0,000). Parental support (p-value=0,000), teacher support (p-value=0,000), and peer support (p-value=0,000) were identified as confounding factors affecting menstrual hygiene. There was a significant difference in the mean scores of knowledge, attitudes, and practices after the video education intervention. It is recommended that adolescent girls develop clean and healthy living habits by consistently maintaining genital hygiene, both during menstruation and outside of it.

Abstract

Pain is a common problem experienced by patients after undergoing a cesarean section. Lavender aromatherapy, which contains active compounds such as linalool and linalyl, was believed to reduce pain due to its analgesic properties and its ability to stimulate the release of endorphins by activating the hypothalamus. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy in reducing post-cesarean section pain at Siti Fatimah Az-Zahra Regional Public Hospital, South Sumatra Province. This study was a quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group approach. A total of 54 post-cesarean section mothers were selected as participants, with 27 assigned to the experimental group and 27 to the control group. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling technique, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0,000 (p-value<0,05), indicating a significant decrease in post-cesarean section pain following lavender aromatherapy intervention. Lavender aromatherapy can be considered a complementary therapy option for managing postoperative pain after cesarean section.

Abstract

An older adult was defined as someone who experienced the natural aging process, which led to physiological changes including the development of hypertension. It was important for individuals with hypertension to consistently take their medication, as adherence helped to control blood pressure effectively. Self-efficacy, defined as a person's belief in their ability to manage their own health, was a major factor influencing medication adherence. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and medication adherence among older adults with hypertension at Puskesmas Dau, Malang District. The study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach involving 52 subjects. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Self-Efficacy Scale-Revised (MASES-R) to assess self-efficacy and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) to measure medication adherence. The findings indicated a significant positive relationship between self-efficacy and medication adherence in older adults with hypertension at Puskesmas Dau, with a p-value of 0,000. The strength of this relationship was categorized as strong and positive.

Abstract

Older adults are frequently misunderstood and perceived negatively by the public, with the assumption that they are a burden to their families and the wider community. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social support and quality of life among older adults who have lost their spouses in Kadoodan Village, Bitung City. A quantitative research method was applied using an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of seventy-three older adults who met the inclusion criteria were selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study included the Interpersonal Support Evaluation List (ISEL) to assess social support and the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire to measure quality of life. The findings showed that older adults with good social support and good quality of life constituted the largest proportion, namely forty-six subjects (36%). Meanwhile, only two subjects (2,7%) demonstrated good social support but poor quality of life. The Chi-square test yielded a p-value of <0,001, indicating a statistically significant association between social support and quality of life. The study concluded that social support plays an important role in improving the quality of life of older adults who have lost their spouses. It is recommended that families, communities, and healthcare providers become more actively engaged in providing sustained attention, interaction, and support for older adults.

Abstract

Mentally retarded children are children who are retarded in terms of intelligence, physical, social and emotional so that they require special treatment to achieve optimal development and skills. Parents have a great responsibility for special care for mentally retarded children and helping children learn new things, fulfill basic needs, practice independence, self-care and life skills. This study aimed to explore parents’ experiences in caring for mentally retarded children in the Lovely Hands Community, Sunter Lake. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and the main instrument of this study was the researcher. The tools used were a tape recorder, interview guide, and field notes. The data analysis technique was Colaizzi’s method. This research involved five participants. The analysis resulted in six themes: 1) The initial phase of knowing their child has special needs (mentally retarded), 2) The support that mentally retarded children get from the family and the surrounding environment, 3) The phase of care provided for mentally retarded children, 4) Concern for the future of mentally retarded children, 5) The family's hope for their retarded children to be able to live independently and get a job, 6). The meaning of patience and gratitude experienced while caring for mentally retarded children. Researchers suggest that there should be a collaboration between parents and educators in the Lovely Hands Community to train these children. Parents can become therapists at home and apply what has been taught in the community.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major nutritional problem among children in Indonesia. The 2022 SSGI reported a stunting prevalence of 21,6% nationally, 20,8% in Central Java Province, and 28,9% in Temanggung Regency. Vitamin D plays a role in bone growth and immune regulation, probiotics support gut microbiota balance and nutrient absorption, and infection incidence may affect nutritional status. This study aimed to examine the relationship between vitamin D intake, probiotic intake, and infection incidence with nutritional status (height-for-age) among children aged 24–59 months in Temanggung Regency. An analytical survey with a cross-sectional design was conducted in March 2024. The population consisted of all under-five children in Temanggung Regency, with 55 subjects selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through direct height measurements and interviews using questionnaires, including 24-hour dietary recall, infection history, and supplement consumption. The results showed no significant association between vitamin D intake, probiotic intake, or infection incidence and height-for-age (p-value > 0,05). This may be influenced by recall bias and the lack of assessment of infection duration and frequency. Further studies should explore other risk factors contributing to stunting in Temanggung Regency.
