Abstract

Background: Vitamin D has several roles, namely physiological function of calcium and bone metabolism, cell growth and differentiation, immune and cardiovascular function. Vitamin D deficiency can cause the risk of cancer. Head and neck cancer is one of the cancers that occur due to vitamin D deficiency in the body. This literature review was to asses and evaluate the impact and benefits of vitamin D supplementation for head and neck cancer.Discussion: A study found an association between vitamin D supplementation and a low risk of recurrence in conditions of high total vitamin D levels. Another study found a significant increase in quality of life (QOL). The primary mechanism of vitamin D action is mediated through binding of either 1,25(OH)2D3 (active form) or 25(OH)D (less active form) to the VDR, which is a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily of steroid and thyroid hormones with gene-regulatory and consequent anti-proliferative properties. Conclusions: Vitamin D supplementation provides a role in improving the condition of patients with head and neck cancer. Both in terms of suppressing recurrence and in terms of increasing quality of life

Abstract

Background: Periodontitis is the inflammation of periodontal tissue that is characterized by the migration to the apical epithelial jungsional with clinical signs of an increase in probing depth. Periodontitis is one of the oral manifestations in patients with DM. CRP is a protein alpha-globulin produced in the liver and increased levels of inflammatory process in the event. In diabetic patients increased levels of CRP resulted in periodontal tissue destruction. The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of CRP levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with periodontitis. Method: This research was conducted using analytical observational research methods. The samples used were type 2 diabetes patients with periodontitis and the control group of patients with type 2 diabetes without periodontitis in Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital . All of samples were examined periodontal index, levels of CRP and oral hygiene. Result: Mann Whitney's test show significance p=0.000, which means there are significant differences between groups. Spearman-Kendall's correlation show that relationship between CRP and periodontal index p=0.000 with a correlation coefficient 0.875 means p<0.05 there was that a significant relationship exists between them and the relationship is strong . In relation OH and periodontitis index p=0.030 with a correlation coefficient of 0.650 means p<0.05 there was that a significant relationship exists between them and the relationship strong . Conclusion: It can be concluded that CRP levels in patients type 2 diabetes with periodontitis is higher than the patients type 2 diabetes without periodontitis. And there is a strong relationship between levels of CRP with periodontitis index , and also a strong relationship between periodontitis and OH index .

Abstract

Background: Bone reconstruction in a dental implant is a big challenge work, especially in a large defect where there was no anatomic supporting tissue. Nowadays there is no ideal membrane to be considered. In this case, titanium, even though second surgery is needed, seems the best choice as it can maintain its shape under the flap. Titanium may cause a membrane perforation on the mucosa in a thin gingival phenotype case. Purpose: This case report aimed to present a bone reconstruction procedure using 3D titanium membranes for dental implant treatment. Case. A 37 years old male patient came to the clinic with a chief complaint was a defect on his anterior tooth. Intraoral examination revealed an 11 fractured and luxated. Methode and Treatment Result: We used an allograft covered with 3D Titanium mesh after loading a dental implant. At the end of the surgery, a resorbable membrane was applied. Conclusion: It is concluded that 3D Titanium mesh can be an application for anterior bone reconstruction.
