Abstract

The major concern in Islamic Philosophy, especially in the metaphysics is the reality of Being, that specifically studies about being itself. One of its purposes is to proof the existence of the Absolute Being, i.e., God. Regarding the proof for the existence of Absolute Being, arguments derived from pre-Islamic era were the argument about the first mover, which is not much valued. Much more powerful arguments have been advanced by the Muslim philosophers about these important issues. This doctrine which is widely known since the time of ibn ‘Arabi, basically is a view that states there is only one existence in this universe, i.e., God. Other beings, the world, and all other phenomenal existences do not really exist. That is, all of them do not separate from God. However, most people misunderstand this unity of Being (wahdat al-wujud) as pantheism, panentheism. The view (unity of being) does not equate everything (viewed as) other God with God, nor stating them are identical with God. Related to the unity of Being, other Muslim philosopher, Mulla Sadra conceives it in relation tothe multiplicity of existence as the rays of the sun in relation to the sun, which the rays of the sun are not the sun and at the same time are nothing but the sun. According to Sadra that existences are equal and the same for all objects, both concrete and abstract. However, the existence of God is pure, while the other has been added with the quiddity. This can be understood because, according to Sadra, the more perfect existence, the less essence would be shown. Here then comes the second principle, the gradation of being, which being not only one but is a hierarchy from the highest to the lowest level. The principle of the doctrine of unity is nothing but to proof that God is the Absolute Being, while the gradation of being is not other but as the principle of identity and difference among the beings.

Abstract

The discussion about the relationship between the intellect and the soul has been a subject of dialogue that has been ongoing since ancient times until today. Human beings are rational creatures that God has honored and bestowed with numerous blessings. Humans are capable of recognizing and being aware of many of God's favors, and they are encouraged to be humble and submissive to God. The Quran addresses the intellect, thoughts, and existence of humans, proclaiming that God has granted them the ability to hear, see, and comprehend. The intellect is the essence of human life and distinguishes humans from animals. Additionally, in logic, humans are recognized as beings capable of speech, and it is understood that the intellect encompasses everything within the heart. The Mu'tazilah doctrine presents the intellect as the source of true knowledge from God. On the other hand, the Ash'ari school strikes a balance between the intellect and revelation. Hence, the intellect is accepted in matters related to theology. Regarding matters related to the Hereafter, they give priority to revelation, specifically auditory revelations. Among the interpreters who delve into the intellect is Az-Zamakhshari, who extensively explored the fields of jurisprudence and rational schools of thought in theology. They interpret the verses with outstanding expertise, providing insights into the realities of the revelations and the various perspectives. Through this study, it becomes evident that Az-Zamakhshari's understanding of the intellect in his interpretation of Al-Kashaf is what is perceived by those who comprehend and consider the verses that God has created as a significant indication of His immense power and astonishing wisdom. Az-Zamakhshari recognized the power of the intellect, which consists of four matters: knowledge of God, knowledge of the obligation to be grateful to Him, knowledge of good and evil, and knowledge of the obligation to embrace the good and avoid the evil. The functions of the intellect include analysis, reflection, remembrance, and contemplation. Its benefits include stimulating human thinking, reasoning, and contemplating the signs of the universe. However, the intellect is limited when it comes to matters related to the soul, the Hour, Paradise, Hell, and the afterlife. The intellect acknowledges the relationship between knowledge and power and acknowledges the absolute certainty of the Day of Resurrection since God has commanded us to believe in it. Keywords: intellect, Az-Zamakhshari, interpretation of Al-Kashaf, famous interpretation.

Abstract

Undoubtedly, Sufism is a way of life that is often difficult to express to others in detail because it involves emotional states that are hard to comprehend. Among these are the surprising statements made by Sufis during intense spiritual experiences, which they refer to as "shathahat" (ecstatic utterances). Some individuals reject these statements, and some even consider the speakers as blasphemous. The discussion of shathahat is not new within Sufism. Abu Nasr as-Sarraj at-Tusi, who lived in the 4th century AH, presents a theory of shathah and explores its attractive aspect that can be understood by devoted seekers on the spiritual path. It could be an expression or a form of representation for such ecstatic utterances. Notably, he addresses these interpretations in his book "al-Luma'" regarding the shathahat of the Sufis, providing responses to those who reject such statements, emphasizing that although their outward appearance may seem irrational, their inner truth remains valid and upright. From this, it can be inferred that according to as-Sarraj at-Tusi, shathahat is an expression used by Sufis to depict and describe their intense spiritual experiences when they are overwhelmed by divine power and passion. He perceives an agreement in defining "wujd" (ecstasy) among Sufis as the secret of Allah revealed to the believers who possess certainty, suddenly entering their hearts. Understanding the experience of wujd, characterized by intense passion and overpowering fervor, is only possible through grasping the underlying meaning that as-Sarraj at-Tusi comprehends, similar to these shathahat. Keywords: as-Sarraj at-Tusi, shathahat, al-Luma'.

Abstract

This article discusses the gender relations specifically observed within the marital lives of Tablighi Jama'at members. The research employed two methods to collect data: semi-structured interviews and in-depth interviews. The gender relations within Tablighi Jama'at are predominantly influenced by the neo-traditionalist concept, emphasizing gender complementarity. This concept maintains that men and women are fundamentally equal and possess equal rights. However, Tablighi Jama'at also promotes a clear division of roles between husbands and wives in their marital lives. The husband is considered the primary breadwinner in the public sphere, while the wife is expected to take on the role of housekeeper in the domestic sphere. As members of Tablighi Jama'at, individuals strive to deepen their understanding of their religion, focusing solely on their devotion to God and the Prophet.
