Abstract

Livestock waste often causes pollution around the cage. Processing of livestock waste such as compost can be used as fertilizer for plants with good enough nutrient content given to plants.  In order to produce good compost, it require a fermentation process. One way that is rarely used to determine the maturity level of compost is by measuring the carbon dioxide gas content in fermented compost. Measurement of carbon dioxide gas can be done using a tool in the form of a carbon dioxide sensor. The research design used was a 7 x 3 randomized block design with 2 replications, while the parameters studied were N, P, K, Moisture Content, pH, Temperature, C/N, Carbon Dioxide.

Abstract

Rice straw with abundant availability becomes very potential to be used as local sheep feed. Fermentation needs to be done to improve the nutritional quality of rice straw which is quite low. The nutritional content needs to be considered in order to support the productivity of sheep. Local sheep is one of the livestock commodities that provide meat. This study aimed to determine the digestibility of dry matter and organic matter feed based on rice straw (oryza sativa) fermented with ecoenzymes in male local sheep. The research was carried out in Namorambe, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra from January to March 2021 and at the Chemistry Postgraduate Laboratory, University of North Sumatra. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of P0 (100% odot grass without fermented rice straw), P1 (75% odot grass and 25% fermented rice straw), P2 (50% odot grass and 50% fermented rice straw), P3 (25% odot grass and 75% fermented rice straw), P4 (100% fermented rice straw without odot grass). The parameters observed were dry matter digestibility and organic matter digestibility. The results showed that the administration of fermented rice straw with ecoenzymes did not significantly affect the dry matter and organic matter digestibility of male local sheep. The conclusion of the study showed that the administration of fermented rice straw with ecoenzymes had the same dry matter and organic matter digestibility as odot grass.

Abstract

Feed is one of the determining factors for the success of livestock production because it takes up 70-80% of production costs. High-protein feed ingredients are one of the high-priced feed ingredients, so it is necessary to use non- conventional feeds. The golden snail is a pest that interferes with rice growth in agricultural areas. The golden snail has a high protein content so it is very efficient to be used as a protein source feed ingredient. In this study, fermented golden snails in the form of flour were used as a substitute for fish meal in the rations of laying quail. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) using 4 treatments and 5 replications, namely P0 = 8% fish flour, P1 = 4% fermented golden snail flour, P2 = 8% fermented golden snail flour, P3 = 12% fermented golden snail flour . The research parameters were feed consumption, egg production, egg weight, feed conversion. The results showed that the utilization of fermented golden snail flour up to 12% had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on feed consumption, egg production and feed conversion with an average of 108.573g/e/week, 33.476%, and 1 ,77. However, it gave an insignificant impact on egg weight with an average value of 10.15 g/grain. The highest ration consumption was at P0 of 114,488g/e/week, the highest egg production was at P3 of 40.667% and the best feed conversion was at P3 of 1.06. The results showed that the use of fermented golden snail flour using 12% Eko enzymes was suitable to be used as a substitute for fish meal

Abstract

The covid 19 pandemic has negatively impacted various sectors, including livestock product trading. This study aims to find out how much income impact due to covid 19 pandemic on broiler meat traders at the Traditional Market, Sidikalang District, and understand the marketing strategies carried out by traders during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research was conducted at the Traditional Market, Sidikalang District, in September 2021. The sample determination used a saturated sample technique ( total sampling ), where all population members were used as samples because the population used was relatively small. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the income of traders before and during the Covid-19 pandemic and describing the data generated from the impact felt during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results showed decreasing butchers' gain after the emergence of the Covid-19 outbreak. The highest revenue from the middle business group reached IDR 5,025,000 or around 31.1%, and the lowest income difference in the small business group got IDR 2,480,000 or about 24.8% after the Covid-19 pandemic. The provision of policies during the Covid-19 pandemic by limiting operational time and market capacity by complying with health protocol recommendations and assisting in the form of money and necessities to traders are some of the government's roles during the Covid-19 pandemic for broiler chicken traders. The strategy carried out by traders to increase sales during the Covid-19 pandemic is to continue to supply excellent and fresh broiler chicken, give discounted prices, offer a delivery system, as well as promote merchandise through social media.

Abstract

Maggot is an alternative to fish meal because it has a fairly high protein content, is easy to cultivate and is able to decompose organic waste into its own food. The better the quality of the maggot growing media, the higher the maggot production will be . Vegetable, fruit and food processing industrial waste is an organic waste that is commonly encountered but its nutritional quality is low. To improve the nutritional quality, fermentation was carried out using local microorganisms (MOL). The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of various types of vegetable, fruit and food processing industrial waste media and different fermentation times on the production of maggot (Hermetia illucens). This study was conducted experimentally using factorial randomized block design (RAK) method with 2 factors ( 3×3), namely factor 1 for various organic wastes (D1 = vegetable waste, D2 = fruit waste, D3 = food processing industrial waste) and factor 2 for fermentation time (L1 = 2 days, L2 = 4 days, L3 = 6 days), with 3 replicates. The parameters of this study consisted of biomass weight, feed consumption, waste reduction index/WRI, feed conversion efficiency/ECI, and survival rate/SR. The results of variance showed that organic waste and fermentation time had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on the parameters of maggot production. It was concluded that the production of maggot (Hermetia illucens) was best in the D1L1 treatment with a biomass weight of 1522.33 g, feed consumption 66.06%, WRI 2.20%, ECI 0.42%, and SR 89.52%.
