Abstract

Background: Pregnancy complications remain a major cause of the increasing Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia. Various risk factors, such as age, parity, pregnancy spacing, nutritional status, and maternal medical history, contribute to the incidence of these complications. Objective: This study aimed to determine the influence of risk factors on the incidence of pregnancy complications in the Tampa Padang Community Health Center (Puskesmas Tampa Padang) work area. Methods: The study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was all 180 pregnant women in their third trimester in the Tampa Padang Community Health Center (Puskesmas Tampa Padang) work area, with a purposively selected sample of 120 respondents. Data were collected through structured questionnaire interviews and a review of the KIA (Maternal and Child Health) handbook. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and multiple logistic regression. Results: A total of 32% of respondents experienced pregnancy complications, with the most common cases being preeclampsia (14%) and bleeding (10%). Bivariate analysis showed that age (p=0.012), parity (p=0.021), pregnancy spacing (p=0.034), nutritional status (p=0.018), and medical history (p=0.008) were significantly associated with the incidence of complications. Multivariate analysis showed that the most dominant factor was a history of chronic disease (OR=3.45; 95% CI=1.58–7.52). Conclusion: Maternal age, parity, pregnancy spacing, nutritional status, and medical history significantly influenced pregnancy complications, with a history of chronic disease being the dominant factor. Promotional and preventive efforts are needed through early risk detection and reproductive health education at the Tampa Padang Community Health Center.

Abstract

Maternal and child health is an important indicator in assessing the quality of health services in a region. Kendari City, as one of the developing cities in Indonesia, faces challenges in providing equitable, affordable, and quality midwifery services to the community. This study aims to develop a community-based midwifery service model that can improve maternal and child health through promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative approaches. The research method used was a qualitative study with a participatory approach, involving midwives, community leaders, health cadres, and pregnant and breastfeeding women as participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and participant observation. The results indicate that community-based midwifery services can improve service accessibility, strengthen the role of health cadres, and raise public awareness of the importance of maternal and child health care. The resulting model emphasizes cross-sector collaboration, strengthening the role of families, and empowering communities as active partners in midwifery services. In conclusion, the development of a community-based midwifery service model is effective in improving the quality and equity of maternal and child health services in Kendari City.

Abstract

Quality midwifery care is crucial for reducing the risk of complications in high-risk pregnant women. This study aims to analyze the quality of midwifery care for high-risk pregnant women in primary healthcare facilities. The research method used a descriptive quantitative approach, with a survey of 80 high-risk pregnant women receiving care at community health centers (Puskesmas) and regional hospitals. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire that assessed dimensions of midwifery care, including midwife competence, communication, service facilities, and patient satisfaction. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequencies, percentages, and averages. The results showed that the majority of respondents rated midwifery care as good (65%), while 25% rated it as adequate, and 10% rated it as poor. Midwife competence and effective communication are the main factors influencing service quality. Service facilities still need to be improved to support effective examinations and patient comfort. This study concluded that the quality of midwifery care for high-risk pregnant women was generally good, but improvements in facilities and communication are still needed. These findings can inform the development of strategies to improve the quality of midwifery care, particularly for high-risk pregnant women.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a public health problem in Indonesia. Data from the 2024 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) shows that the prevalence of stunting decreased from 21.5% (2023) to 19.8% (2024), but the number of stunted children under five remains around 4.48 million. Maternal parenting patterns, including feeding, stimulation, and health care, play a crucial role in preventing stunting. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal parenting patterns and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months. Methods: The study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was mothers of toddlers aged 24–59 months. The sample was selected using proportional random sampling with a total of 30 respondents (adjusted to the research results). The instruments used were a parenting questionnaire and measurement of toddler nutritional status using the TB/U index (height for age) based on WHO standards. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% significance level (p < 0.05). Results: The study showed that most mothers with good parenting practices had toddlers with normal nutritional status, while mothers with poor parenting practices were more likely to have toddlers with stunting. Statistical tests showed a significant relationship between maternal parenting practices and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Maternal parenting practices are associated with the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months. Interventions based on parenting education, increasing maternal knowledge, and strengthening the roles of families and health workers are essential to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia.

Abstract

Mental disorders are commonly associated with difficulties in regulating and expressing emotions, which may lead to maladaptive behaviors such as withdrawal, aggressiveness, or excessive anxiety. One of the non-pharmacological interventions that can help patients cope with these difficulties is art therapy, a therapeutic approach that utilizes visual art activities to facilitate the safe and constructive expression of emotions. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of art therapy on emotional expression among patients with mental disorders. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed. The sample consisted of 40 patients, divided into an intervention group (n=20) who received art therapy twice a week for 4 weeks, and a control group (n=20) who received routine care only. Emotional expression was measured using a modified Emotional Expression Scale (EES). Data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in emotional expression scores in the intervention group (mean score increased from 45.3 to 72.8; p=0.001), while the control group showed no significant change (46.1 to 48.0; p=0.356). Post-intervention comparisons between groups indicated a statistically significant difference (p=0.004). In conclusion, art therapy is proven to be effective in enhancing emotional expression among patients with mental disorders. This intervention may serve as a simple, enjoyable, and safe strategy in psychiatric rehabilitation programs.
