Abstract

Child growth and development are influenced by internal and external factors. One of the postnatal factors is nutritional factors. Nutritional elements are a dominant influence on child growth, especially in early life until the age of 6 months. The nutrition needed by babies can be met by providing breast milk (ASI). Exclusive breastfeeding is one effort to obtain good baby growth and development because breast milk contains important nutrients needed by babies to grow. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and infant growth and development in the Peudada Community Health Center Working Area, Bireuen Regency. The research design used in this study was cross-sectional. The population in this study were 204 mothers who had babies aged 6-12 months. The sample used in this study was accidental sampling, namely a sampling technique based on chance, the number of samples was 67 babies. This study was conducted at the Peudada Community Health Center on July 14, 2025. Data analysis used the Chi Square test . The results of the univariate test showed that the majority of exclusive breastfeeding was in the category of providing exclusive breastfeeding as many as 40 respondents (59.7%), respondents based on appropriate growth as many as 57 respondents (85.1%) and fine and gross motor development in infants showed that 42 respondents (62.7%). The bivariate results using the statistical test above obtained a p value = 0.001. This means that the p value is smaller than α (p = 0.001 <α = 0.05 ) , so it can be said that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted or there is a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and growth in infants at the Peudada Health Center, Bireuen Regency. Suggestions for mothers should dig up information from health workers, and information media that discuss exclusive breastfeeding so that infant growth and development are met according to age and avoid delays in growth and development.

Abstract

Chromolaena odorata leaves are empirically known to act as anti-inflammatory and other pharmacological effects. In this study, ethanol extracts from Chromolaena odorata leaves were analyzed using phytochemical screening and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify phytochemical constituents. Phytochemical tests showed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and phenolics. GC-MS analysis of ethanol extracts from Chromolaena odorata leaves detected the presence of seven phytochemical compounds, namely Ethyl (E)-4-(2-phenylethylamino)but-2-enoate; 2h-pyran 2-(7-heptadecynyloxy) tetrahydro; 3,7,11-Trimethyldodeca-2,6,10-trienyl acetate; Bicyclo(3.1.1)heptane, 2,6,6-trimethyl-,(1alpha,2beta,5alpha)-11,13-Dimethyl-12-tetradecen-1-yl acetate; (2E,7R,11R)-3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol, and 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid. This study identified several constituents that are biologically active compounds through GC-MS. These phytocompounds have potential as herbal medicines due to pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anticancer.

Abstract

Lipstick is a type of cosmetic widely used to beautify the appearance of the lips. Excessive use of artificial colors can cause irritation, so safer natural ingredients are needed. Red dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizus) contains natural dyes betacyanin which has the potential as a natural dye and antioxidant, while Aloe vera acts as a natural moisturizer. This study aims to explore the potential of red dragon fruit peel extract and Aloe vera in making lipstick and assess its physical quality and antioxidant activity. The research methodology includes dragon fruit peel extraction using maceration techniques and Aloe vera extraction using infundation methods, which are then formulated into lipstick with cera alba, carnauba wax, cetyl alcohol, and vaseline album as the base ingredients. Product evaluation includes organoleptic tests, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, hardness, irritation, melting point, weight uniformity, cyclic stability testing, and antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The results showed that the lipstick formula using the extract produced a bright red color, a pH of 5, was stable at extreme temperatures, non-irritating, and had an antioxidant activity of 1.13 mgQE/g. It is hoped that this research can provide an alternative for the development of natural-based cosmetics that are safe, environmentally friendly, and provide antioxidant and moisturizing benefits to the lips.

Abstract

Blood glucose level is an important indicator used to assess the body’s metabolic condition and detect the risk of diabetes mellitus. University students are considered vulnerable to unhealthy lifestyle changes, including irregular eating patterns, lack of physical activity, academic stress, and insufficient sleep, which may affect blood glucose regulation. This study aimed to describe random blood glucose levels using the Point-Of-Care Testing (POCT) method among students of the Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program, Class of 2025, at Politeknik Cendrawasih Palu. This research employed a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 34 students who met the inclusion criteria. Blood glucose examination was performed using a POCT glucometer with capillary blood samples obtained from the fingertip. The results showed that all respondents had random blood glucose levels within the normal range, with values ranging from 89–161 mg/dL and an average level of 110.41 mg/dL. These findings indicate that the respondents generally had good glucose metabolism. The POCT method proved to be practical, rapid, and effective for early blood glucose screening and health monitoring among students.

Abstract

Acne (Acne vulgaris) is a chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous glands caused by the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and is a common skin problem, especially in adolescents with a prevalence of up to 85%. Binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia) are known to contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids that have antibacterial potential. This study aims to formulate micellar water preparations from binahong leaf ethanol extract as an anti-acne facial cleanser and to evaluate its physical, chemical characteristics and antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. This study used a laboratory experimental method. Binahong leaf extract was obtained through a maceration method using 70% ethanol with a yield of 16.4%. Micellar water preparations were formulated in three variations of extract concentrations, namely 1%, 3% and 5%. Evaluation of the preparations included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, cleaning power, stability using the cycling test method and antibacterial activity testing using the disc diffusion method with clindamycin as a positive control. The results of the study showed that binahong leaf extract positively contained flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids. All micellar water preparation formulas had good physical and chemical characteristics, were homogeneous, stable during testing, and had a pH that matched the physiological pH of facial skin. The results of the antibacterial activity test showed that preparations F1, F2 and F3 had antibacterial activity in the strong category with an average inhibition zone diameter of 11.35 ± 1.11 mm; 11.97 ± 2.40 mm; and 12.92 ± 0.56 mm. Based on the results of the study, the formula with a 5% extract concentration showed the best antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a common sinonasal inflammatory disease, with global prevalence ~10,9% (European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps 2021). CRS pathogenesis is associated with impaired osteomeatal complex (OMC) drainage, influenced by anatomical variations, e.g. ethmoidal infundibulum (EI) length and width, uncinate process (UP) type, and nasal septal deviation (NSD) degree. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between anatomical variations of the OMC (EI, UP, and NSD) and the occurrence of maxillary CRS based on paranasal sinus (PNS) CT. Method: cross-sectional design involved 100 maxillary sinuses from patients who underwent PNS CT at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square and Eta correlation tests. Result: Mean EI length in CRS (5.9 ± 2.7 mm) was shorter than in non-CRS (7.8 ± 2.6 mm, p<0.001), while EI width was greater (2.8 ± 1.1 mm vs. 2.3 ± 0.5 mm, p<0.05). UP type A was most frequent in CRS (47%, p<0.001). NSD ≥10° was more common in CRS (31%) than in non-CRS (13%, p<0.05). Conclusion: Anatomical variations of OMC play an important role in predisposition to maxillary CRS. Most patients showed Keros type 2 and Gera type 2, indicating a moderate risk of complications during functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Comprehensive evaluation using PNS CT is essential for safe and effective surgical planning.
