Abstract

This research was motivated by a number of shortcomings in previous similar studies, mainly related to the selection of sensors, the selection of application for operation, and the absence of backup power in the system, so that manufacturing and development were carried out for the acquisition of an embedded device as a control unit. The availability of this control unit is part of the smart-home system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) for gateway controllers, via smartphones with a one-time password mechanism. The research objectives include (i) the manufacture of control units and programming based on Arduino IDE and (ii) verification and validation tests. The realization of the control unit is carried out through assembling a number of electronic devices, making motherboards, re-functionalizing of the miniature gates, and integrated wiring equipped with embedded programs. The performance of the control unit is measured by providing verification tests in the form of simulations based on the Proteus application and validation tests assisted by the Telegram Bot application when conditions are given to the gate when it is opened, closed, or the lock is in a lock/unlocked state. The performance of the control unit developed, in the form of increasing the speed of the gate opening and closing process, implementing one-time passwords for operating security, and the availability of internal backup power. Recommendations for further research, more emphasis is placed on the creation of various control units that are integrated into the smart-home system platform.

Abstract

Solar panels are an essential part of a system of electrical source devices that receives light energy to be processed into electrical energy with direct current (DC) output. The main problem in the use of solar panels is that the production of power in solar panels is not constant due to the temperature and solar radiation changes. This non-constant power causes the solar panel output power to fluctuate and become unstable. This output power will be used in processing using the MPPT Perturb and Observe (PNO) method to obtain the maximum solar panel receiving point. This PNO method uses two input parameters and can be applied to all types of solar panels. This study aims to reduce the oscillation of the output power of MPPT using electronic power simulations on a three-level boost converter by combining PNO and Fuzzy MPPT methods. The Fuzzy method in this study uses the Mamdani inference method, which uses two inputs and one output. The boost converter was tested using a simulation on several conditions of sunlight received by solar panels. The simulation results show that the power output from the MPPT PNO and Fuzzy methods can reduce oscillation more optimally, 78.57%.

Abstract

Paperless Office (PLO) is a web-based application that was created to facilitate digital office communication such as sending memos, letters, and posting news. It was initially created by Bambang Prastowo from Universitas Gajah Mada. The goals of using PLO are to reduce paper usage, speed up internal communication, and to simplify the management of correspondence in digital form. Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) has implemented PLO since early 2013. This paper aims to analyze the level of activity and users satisfaction of the renew PLO. The renew is done by making the web application more responsive and adding new features that do not exist in the earlier version. The results show that users satisfaction level increases, observed from system quality, information, and services. Variables that affect the level of activity, based on Pearson and Spearman correlations, are X1, X13,X20,X33, X36,X38, andX43, while the variables that affect the level of users satisfaction are X42 and X44.

Abstract

Gelombang elektromagnetik yang dipancarkan melalui medium udara dan merambat sesuai arah polarisasi. Polarisasi merupakan salah satu faktor yang menentukan kualitas sinyal yang diterima. Untuk mendapatkan sinyal yang maksimum akan dapat dicapai jika posisi antena penerima mempunyai arah polarisasi yang sama. Salah satu peralatan komunikasi nirkabel yang populer saat ini, wi-fi berbasis IEEE 802.11g yang lazim digunakan pada laptop dan Access Point akan diuji kualitas sinyal terimanya. Dalam penelitian ini, akan dievaluasi pengaruh polarisasi linier terhadap kualitas sinyal atau Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Untuk pengujian SNR digunakan perangkat lunak, Netstumbler. Evaluasi pengukuran propagasi dilakukan dengan menempatkan pemancar dan penerima pada ruang terbuka dan di dalam ruangan atau ruang tertutup. Pengujian di ruang terbuka dilakukan dengan posisi pemancar dan penerima terpisahkan dengan jarak, 3, 5, 7 dan 10 meter sedangkan di dalam ruang, kondisi ruang dipisahkan oleh sekat batu bata dan tanpa sekat. Pengujian polarisasi linier merupakan kombinasi dari polarisasi: vertikal-vertikal, horizontal-horizontal dan vertikal-horizontal. Hasil pengukuran diperoleh bahwa arah polarisasi mempengaruhi kuat sinyal pada penerima dengan hasil SNR yang lebih baik untuk polarisasi vertikal-vertikal dibandingkan pengujian dengan arah polarisasi lainnya.

Abstract

Kota Baru Parahyangan residential area, located in Padalarang sub-district of Bandung, has the quality and coverage of 3G and 4G cellular services that are not optimal, thus it has become a complaint of customers to the cellular providers. Therefore in this article a camouflage tower or Outdoor Distributed Antenna System (ODAS) is designed, which is a unique concept that helps in prividing connectivity in location where conventional tower construction is not permitted due to various regulations. This camouflage tower design aims to increase the number of cellular antennas but with minimal costs, land and human resources. In addition, this camouflage tower design has a high aesthetic value to be implemented in these elite residential areas. From the design and implementation results for 4G, the Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) value is 70% at a value -90 dBm and Signal-to-Interference Noise Ratio (SINR) 70% at a value 5 dB according to the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) provider standard, while for 3G the Received Signal Code Power (RSCP) value is 70% at a value -78 dBm and Ec / No -12 dB. This shows that the quality and coverage both of 3G and 4G cellular services in this region have reached the target cellular providers.

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Network or WSN is a collection of nodes in the form of sensors which establish a network wirelessly. The function of WSN is to collect scattered data that is obtained from sensors which will be transmitted via Ad-Hoc communication to Base Station for further processing. In implementing it, WSN has several problems that occur. One of the problems is the energy consumption and lifetime of the sensor node which the sensor node uses energy only from the battery for its operation. In fact, on its application, the data is not taken once. Thus, it needs energy savings to reduce energy consumption, and the amount of enough energy to make the sensor nodes has a longer lifetime. One of the solutions to overcome the problem is to design a protocol from WSN so that sensor nodes can transmit data to Base Station effectively. In this final project, the simulation was done using three protocols, namely Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH), Hybrid Energy Efficient Distribute (HEED), and Power-Efficient Gathering in Sensor Information Systems (PEGASIS). The LEACH and HEED protocols used clustering method while PEGASIS used chain method. The analysis performed on these three protocols was energy consumption and network lifespan using the same parameters of Zigbee Xbee Pro and simulated on Matlab R2013a.

Abstract

Qurbani is an Islamic ritual animal sacrifice that is carried out during Eid-Adha; one of the two major Muslim holidays. In Indonesia, every village normally has one mosque that takes charge of organizing any related Qurbani activities, from collecting money, creating slaughter schedule, to distributing the meat for the recipients. The current management of these activities is done manually and by hand, which can potentially have errors. Therefore, this research aims to develop and evaluate the usability of a web-based application that will in part take care of Qurbani-related activities. This application is designed and developed using the Scrum methodology. The application as successfully developed and its functionalities are as expected based on design. The application was then evaluated using System Usability Scale (SUS) with 10 respondents. The application obtained the average score of 91.25 which falls into A or excellent category.

Abstract

In this globalization era, the internet has been the main media which everyone used to exchange information, from the public such as sport to top secret such as military data. Hence, the requirement of data hiding method called steganography is rising. Steganography is hiding the secret information into another media so that it could be transferred publicly, but only the authorized users could access it. There were two main problems in the data hiding technique: the capacity of the secret and the quality of the generated stego data. In this proposed method, we combined digital image processing called interpolation, used it to predict the new pixel value to hide the secret bit in purpose to increase the bit data capacity with the consequence the reduction of the stego image quality. The experimental result showed that the capacity has increased from that of the previous research.

Abstract

BCH (Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem) codes are used extensively in numerous applications in order to achieve reliable data transfer. In this paper, the parameters of BCH codes are introduced and used to investigate its applications, characteristics and performance when employed as inner and outer code in decoding method. To evaluate the parameters, three types of BCH codes: (7,4,3), (15,11,3) and (31,26,3); are applied. In addition, the implementation of BCJR (Bahl, Cocke, Jelinek and Raviv) algorithm is discussed by applying APP-SISO (a posteriori probabilities – Soft Input Soft Output) decoding for BCH codes. The proposed cheme employing inner and outer decoding of BCH codes is analyzed and compared by using EXIT characteristic of BCH decoders. The channel capacity measurements for different rates inner BCH codes are described by using BPSK modulation over AWGN channel. Lastly, the BER performances of BCH codes are observed for different types, in order to obtain better performance of BER plot indeed.
