Abstract

Hand sign language is a medium of communication for people with disabilities (deaf and speech impaired). However, in social practice, persons with disabilities may have to communicate with non-disable persons who do not understand sign language. These problems can be overcome with the help of translators or normal people learning sign language through existing media such as videos. Unfortunately, this method will probably cost a lot of money and time. In respons to this issue, the present study designed a sistem to detect hand gestures based on image processing. The method used is the You Only Look Once (YOLO) algorithm. The YOLO algorithm can detect and classify objects at once without being influenced by the light intensity and background of the object. This algorithm is a deep learning method that is more accurate than other deep learning methods. From this research, the system can detect and classify hand gestures with different backgrounds, light intensity, and distances with an accuracy rate above 90%.

Abstract

Since 2016 acoustic detection technology for marine resources had been developed which was relatively simple and sophisticated, namely Ocean Acoustic Waveguide Remote Sensing. The technology was useful for monitoring and quantifying underwater targets such as marine resources and the environment that can be conducted continuously, sustainable, in situ, real-time, and low cost. This research had designed an Ocean Acoustic Remote Sensing technology instrument to detect signal propagation range. The step taken in this research was to build an acoustic device system such as transmitter and receiver based on TR-103 transmitting transducer sensor and Benthos Aq-1 receiving transducer. Based on the experiment results, the transmitter and receiver designed were confrmed with the measured piezoelectric quantity specifcations. The results at open ocean in the Thousand Islands showed the detection range of transmitter signal propagation to the receiver was 100 m.

Abstract

Nowadays, clothes with various designs and color combinations are available for purchasing through an online shop, which is mostly equipped with keyword-based item retrieval. Here, the object in the online database is retrieved based on the keyword inputted by the potential buyers. The keyword-based search may bring potential customers on difficulties to describe the clothes they want to buy. This paper presents a new searching approach, using an image instead of text, as the query into an online shop. This method is known as content-based image retrieval (CBIR).  Particularly, we focused on using color as the feature in our Muslimah clothes image retrieval. The dominant color descriptor (DCD) extracts the wardrobe's color. Then, image matching is accomplished by calculating the Euclidean distance between the query and image in the database, and the last step is to evaluate the performance of the DWD by calculating precision and recall. To determine the performance of the DCD in extracting color features, the DCD is compared with another color descriptor, that is dominant color correlogram descriptor (DCCD). The values of precision and recall of DCD ranged from 0.7 to 0.9 while the precision and recall of DCCD ranged from 0.7 to 0.8. These results showed that the DCD produce a superior performance compared to DCCD in retrieving a set of clothing image, either plain or patterned colored clothes.

Abstract

Sistem transmisi memegang peranan yang sangatpenting dalam proses penyaluran daya. Oleh karena itupengamanan pada saluran transmisi perlu mendapatperhatian yang serius dalam perencanaannya. Analisakemampuan saluran merupakan aplikasi untuk mempelajarikestabilan sistem. Analisa kemampuan saluran dalampenelitian ini menggunakan metode contingency N-1 analysis.Contingency N-1 analysis merupakan sebuah program untukmemperhitungkan berbagi kondisi yang mungkin terjadidalam sistem dimasa yang akan datang denganmenggunakan indeks keandalan security N-1 yangmenggambarkan bagaimana keadaan sistem apabila sebuahunsur (komponen) yang ada dalam sistem dikeluarkan darioperasi. Komponen sistem yang dikeluarkan/dilepaskan padapenelitian ini adalah saluran. Pelepasan saluran diuji denganmenggunakan software PSAT 1.3.4 MATLAB/Simulink.Analisa kemampuan saluran dengan metode contingency N-1analysis ini dilakukan pada sistem 14 bus. Index kestabilansaluran digunakan untuk melihat bagaimana kondisi daritiap-tiap saluran apakah dalam kondisi stabil atau tidak.Dari hasil yang diperoleh adalah semua saluran memilikiindex kestabilan 1, yang berarti bahwa semua saluranmemiliki kondisi operasi yang stabil.

Abstract

In a visual-based real detection system using computer vision, the most important thing that must be considered is the computation time. In general, a detection system has a heavy algorithm that puts a strain on the performance of a computer system, especially if the computer has to handle two or more different detection processes. This paper presents an effort to improve the performance of the trash detection system and the target partner detection system of a trash bin robot with social interaction capabilities. The trash detection system uses a combination of the Haar Cascade algorithm, Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) and Gray-Level Coocurrence Matrix (GLCM). Meanwhile, the target partner detection system uses a combination of Depth and Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) algorithms. Robotic Operating System (ROS) is used to make each system in separate modules which aim to utilize all available computer system resources while reducing computation time. As a result, the performance obtained by using the ROS platform is a trash detection system capable of running at a speed of 7.003 fps. Meanwhile, the human target detection system is capable of running at a speed of 8,515 fps. In line with the increase in fps, the accuracy also increases to 77%, precision increases to 87,80%, recall increases to 82,75%, and F1-score increases to 85,20% in trash detection, and the human target detection system has also improved accuracy to 81%, %, precision increases to 91,46%, recall increases to 86,20%, and F1-score increases to 88,42%.

Abstract

Femtocell has been considered as an important technology to increase the cellular system capacity by bringing the base station closer to the user and shrinking the cell dimension. Basically, femtocell networks are deployed in indoor environment such as an office. Thus, femtocell placement problems are one of the important issues in planning the wireless networks, since the manual planning processes are not efficient. In this paper, the solution of femtocell placement problem in an indoor environment is solved by bat algorithm. Selecting the best position of the femtocell is the main objective so the capacity can be maximized. In a 100 trial study, the SNR can be optimized up to 34.89 dB. In conclusion, the bat algorithm is able to improve the SNR efficiently and effectively.

Abstract

Utilization of renewable energy from solar panel systems is increasingly being applied, but until now its utilization has not been maximized. The movement of the sun caused by rotation of the earth and cloudy condition should be taken into account to maximize the electrical energy in solar panels. In this study, a concept to calculate the movement of a two-axis sun tracker is proposed by using a combination of two controller methods, i.e. Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) and Fuzzy logic known as Fuzzy-PID (F-PID). To follow the movement of the sun, the LDR sensor is used as an input to light as well as output used to drive 2 units servo for x-axis and y-axis. Sun tracker that is used is based on tetrahedron geometry and uses three Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensors as input. Input and output components are connected to the Atmega 328P by using a combination of Fuzzy logic and PID programs (F-PID). Fuzzy logic programming is first performed on the Matlab application using Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), then converted into an Arduino-based programming language. The sun tracker movement and the voltage received by the solar panel will be stored into the SD card using a data logging module. Adjusting the sun tracker movement using the combined Fuzzy logic and PID method intends to maximize the electrical energy received by the solar panel. The results showed that the F-PID method obtained the maximum voltage of 5.3 V, a maximum current of 0.11 A, and a maximum power of 0.61 W.

Abstract

Solar photovoltaic monitoring system can be directly conducted locally for the experimental purposes. However, indirect or remote monitoring is also needed since the solar panel are often installed in a a high place, rural location, or remote area. This study offers a dual solar panel monitoring system i.e. local and remote. Local monitoring system consists of voltage, current, temperature and light intensity sensors that were integrated in a kit called PVmeter. The data in the local monitoring system were displayed on a LCD or on a PC monitor using data logger. While in the remote monitoring system, the data were uploaded to the internet and displayed on Thinkspeak website hence the data are accessible whenever and wherever needed. In the local system, monitored data were successfully displayed on *.txt file format for every 5 minutes. While in the remote system, the data were successfully displayed on Thinkspeak website with a mean transfer rate of 52.5 seconds.

Abstract

Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) applies a method to generate an analog waveform in a digital manner, which is formed by generating a digital signal that varies with time and converting it into analog form using a digital to analog device (DAC). IC AD9851 is an analog waveform generator to implement the DDS method, which generates a frequency that can be changed according to the needs of its users. The digital signal is generated using a PIC 18F4550 microcontroller that has a full-speed USB 2.0 feature to interface with the computer via USB without the need of special drivers to do the communication. Setting of the output frequency can be done via the keypad or buttons programmed via computer. The test results are a wide range of frequency waves produced from 100 Hz to 30 MHz in the form of a sine wave with an amplitude of 430 mV and a square wave with an amplitude of 4,125 V.Keywords: DDS, AD9851, PIC 18F4550, USB, function generator
