Abstract

This study explores the cultural imagery in “ritual speech Hambor Haju at Manggaraian society: a cultural linguistic study”, with two problems that should be researched. Those problems are (1) verbal symbols in ritual speech Hambor Haju; (2) imagery in ritual speech Hambor Haju. This qualitative research was carried oiut in Maggarai Regency, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara province. The data were obtained through observation, interview, documentation study, listening, recording, and note taking. The result of the data analysis is informally reported and verbally described. The data were analyzed using a number of theories and paradigms, particularly cultural linguistics theory from Gary B. Palmer. The results of the study indicates that (1) esthetic form of ritual speech Hambor Haju consists of parallelism and metaphor; (2) verbal symbols of ritual speech Hambor Haju includes grammatical aspects, literary style, and discourse scenario; (3) imagery in ritual speech Hambor Haju consists of (a) esthetics imagery; (b) unity/togetherness imagery; (c) respecting imagery; (d) deliberations imagery; (e) sacred imagery; (f) act imagery; (g) loyalty imagery; (h) ideology imagery; (i) emancipation imagery; (j) seriousness imagery; and (k) pro-existence imagery.

Abstract

Women participation in decision making is a manifestation of equality between men and women. Public arena is dominated by men meanwhile the women were put mainly only on domestic domain and almost didn’t have any access to the public arena. Main issue of this research was the women participation in decision making in Leo discussion at Rote Ndao district. This was a descriptive qualitative research with phenomenological and cultural approaches. Data collection techniques used were interview with informants, observation and document analysis. From this research it was known that the women participation in Leo discussion was limited only on giving comments and advices, final decision was then made by the male, because tradition said that men had the rights on decision making. Although still dominated by men, there were some women participation in Leo discussion, women could made decision which related to technical means issues in Leo discussion. Public area were still dominated by men and its domestic counterparts were still fully done by the womens. Women were heard if they were highly educated, women were respected when they were experienced, oldest, had life character which put in high regard, not arrogant, motherly, mildly resolute, and used to public appearances.

Abstract

Makalah ini membahas aturan-aturan dan tantangan-tantangan dalam membuat suatu kuesioner dalam mengumpulkan data untuk makalah penelitian. Ada beberapa pertimbangan dan isu-isu etis yang perlu kita perhatikan ketika menyusun suatu kuesioner. Selanjutnya, tahapan dalam membuat dan memilih pertanyaan akan dibahas untuk membuat survei kita efektif. Makalah ini memasukkan, membandingkan, dan mengkontraskan pendapat-pendapat para ahli yang menulis tentang pembuatan pertanyaan untuk suatu kuesioner. Selain itu, makalah ini juga dilengkapi dengan contoh- contoh kuesioner yang baik dan benar yang terdapat pada lampiran.

Abstract

This research were aimed to describe natoni traditional speeches which were the reflection of Timor Dawan culture. This research used qualitative phenomenological approach. The research method used were antropological with survey means: observations and interviews. Results gained from this research were; natoni had been around since ancient time and still passed down to today’s generations; complete traditional costume were used when performing natoni. Regarding time and place to do natoni, data showed that natoni could be done at any time or place; natoni doers were traditional figures which understands natoni. Natoni is traditional speech in the form of poem which performed reciprocally; the aim of Natoni were as a homage and introduction to local culture; the values of natoni were universal. The structure of Natoni begins with initial phase which contained preparation and ended on closing phase with additional event of souvenir presentation. People were making efforts by continuosly presenting natoni performances in the communities so that natoni would become community custom.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas representasi Indonesia dalam iklan pariwisata Wonderful Indonesia versi Feeling Is Believing (2012) melalui pendekatan analisis wacana kritis terhadap nation branding yang diwacanakan dalam iklan. Korpus penelitian ini adalah sebuah iklan pariwisata yang dikeluarkan oleh Kementrian Pariwisata Republik Indonesia pada tahun 2012. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat apakah wacana representasi Indonesia yang dibangun dalam rangka nation branding melalui iklan pariwisata Wonderful Indonesia: Feeling Is Believing sudah sesuai dengan tujuan dibuatnya iklan. Pendekatan analisis wacana kritis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah tiga dimensi communicative events analysis yang dirumuskan oleh Fairclough (1995). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa representasi Indonesia dalam nation brand Wonderful Indonesia pada wacana iklan belum sesuai dengan tujuan dibuatnya iklan karena elemen-elemen wacana iklan dan interaksi antarelemen tersebut belum mampu membangun nation brand yang dituju oleh pemerintah Indonesia.

Abstract

This article is based on a thesis with the same title on Archaeology Magister Program, Universitas Indonesia. This research relies on structuralist approach assuming that artists have potential choices to select motifs according to their artistic repertoire. That appropriate choices are guided by the site location in the region. Etnographic studies of animal motifs in rock art shows totemism, shamanism, and everyday life as cultural contexts. Based on that cultural contexts, it is known that shamanism was the cultural context of rock art in South Sulawesi which is dominated by one animal motif

Abstract

This research will analyze Russian poems by using the approach of sociology of literature. Poetry is a popular form in Russian literature. The presence of the poets with their works make people in the world know Russian literature. The poets’s journey to all over the world provide experiences that inspire their works. Nusantara as a region famous for its natural resources has attracted Europeans, and has inspired the Russian poets Esperovich Esper Ukhtomsky, Konstantin Dmitriyevich Balmont, Valery Yakovlevich Bryusov and Vladimir Yurievich Elsner. They wrote poems the beauty of the natural and cultural heritage, especially in Java. Borobudur, traditional music, traditional dance, and Botanical Gardens became theme in their poetry.
