Abstract

Abstract. Numerical hydrodynamics model MOHID based on General Ocean Turbulence Model formula was used to study the tidal current in Makassar waters. The data used in this model are tidal elevation and bathymetry data from GEBCO. The tidal current simulation was conducted for 30 days. Model simulation results show that the tidal current velocity ranged between 0,001 m/s – 0,012 m/s. The current velocity during neap tide is smaller than the velocity during spring tide. The pattern of tidal current in Makassar waters is dominantly flows towards westward and then turned heading northward direction. The simulation result of tide-induced residual current in verification point shows that the flows is ebb-dominant at a rate of 0,005 m/s heading westward direction.

Abstract

Abstract. Tilapia is an important fisheries comodity which intesively farmed in Indonesia. However, an intensive farming system of aquatic organism often lead to disease outbreak. Ones the disease emerged, it will be difficult to combat. The curing method by using antibiotics in aquatic organism will bring negative impacts, such as causing bacteria resistance and decline of aquatic environments. Therefore control of disease in aquatic organism should be done through preventive methods such as the use of β-glucan from baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). It is widely known that yeast’ cell wall contain of immunostimulant substance namely β-glucan. This research was aimed to find the effect of different dose of β-glucan in diet toward the phagocytic activity, respiratory burst which is indicated by Nitroblue Tetrazolium (NBT) activity, total of protein plasm and agglutination activity of tilapia blood. Method used in this study was experiment by complete random design using five treatments triplicate. Those treatments were β-glucan 0; 2,5; 5; 7,5 and 10 ppmkg-1 diet. Result showed that the different dose of β-glucan in diet gave a significantly effect on the phagocytic activity and total of protein plasm, but not on respiratory burst (NBT activity). The highest phagocytic activity occured in treatment E (β-glucan 10 ppmkg-1 diet) with the value of phagocytic activity was 37,67%, whereas the highest of total of protein plasm was occured in treatment B (β-glucan 2,5 ppmkg-1 diet) with the value of 123,58 mgml-1. Abstract

Abstract. The study on the phytoplankton community in estuary area of Aceh River was done from August to October 2006. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the structure of the phytoplankton community in Aceh River post tsunami. Explorative survey was done at three sampling sites along the river. Sampling sites were determinated based on salinity zoning; 30 ppt, 18-30 ppt and 5-18 ppt. The results show that higher diversity of the phytoplankton was found at sampling site 1, while the lower diversity was recorded at sampling site 3. There were no dominancy of species at all of sampling locatios. Diversity index was ranged between 0.95 to 0.98 and its mean that the diversity is higher at all of stations, while similarity between station 1 and 2 was higher compared to others stations. There was no difference in division composition of phytoplankton post tsunami, however, the total species was increased post tsunami. Keywords: Abundance, diversity index, similarity index, and tsunami

Abstract

Abstract: Streptomyces is one of bacterial genus which has been considered as a potential source of many novel antibiotics from both terrestrial and marine microorganism. In this paper, four secondary metabolites have been isolated and characterized from a marine Streptomyces sp. B5798, namely phydroxyphenylacetic acid (2), indole-3-carboxylic acid (3), indole-3-acetic acid (4), and Macrolactin A (5), respectively. Two of them are common compounds, namely indole-3-carboxylic acid (3) and indole-3-acetic acid (4). The 3,4 dihydroxybenzaldehyde is a degradation product of phydroxyphenylacetic (2) in microorganism. Macrolactin A (5) showed cytotoxicity against brine shrimps test (A. salina). All structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated based on spectroscopic and mass spectrometry data.

Abstract

Abstract. A study of analysis of ENSO impact on streamflow of Cisangkuy watershed West Java using Rainfall-Runoff model was done. The study was analyzed by using GR4J model. Daily rainfall and potential evaporation are model initial data. The model was tested for 2 years running by applying least square error method provided by spreadsheet application to reduce the initial value problem. The model showed a good result with Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency of 70.0. The model was then simulated for 5 years. Monthly streamflow which is model output was then analyzed. The ENSO impact was done by identifying SOI to the variability of rainfall and streamflow. The model result showed that during La-Niña year in 2000, streamflow decreased below normal. The situation remain question that need to be further investigated. During normal year from 2001 to 2004, streamflow was normal. However, during El-Niño year, the decreasing rainfall also have an effect on the decreasing of streamflow in Cisangkuy watershed. The result also showed that the correlation between climate anomaly Nino 3.4 and variability of rainfall and streamflow is significant with correlation coefficient of -0.69 and -0.30, respectively. The regression model was governed and was then utilized to predict the risk analysis in Cisangkuy watershed by using stochastic spreadsheet under Crystal Ball application.

Abstract

Abstract. On March 2012, the Coastal area of Kabupaten Sukabumi, West Java, was affected by tidal flooding. This tidal flooding occured because of the supermoon phenomenon that combine with heavy rains. The potential of tidal flood disaster in Kabupaten Sukabumi coastal area requires an immediate action in order to manage the disaster. The first step to mitigate the disaster is by mapping the area that potentially affected by tidal flood. The objective of this research is to modelling the tidal flood area in coastal of Kabupaten Sukabumi. The result of this research shows that the area that potentially affected by tidal flood without supermoon phenomenon is covering 29% of the coastal area of Kabupaten Sukabumi and it is increasing to 37% when supermoon phenomenon occured.
