Abstract

Aquaculture activities cannot be separated from the availability of artificial feed, even 70% of the total production cost is spent on feed, so the availability of good feed, in terms of quality and quantity, is an effort to maintain the success of aquaculture activities. Feeds with high protein have relatively higher prices because some of their raw materials still rely on imports from other countries. The solution to this problem is to use alternative feed ingredients that have good nutritional content, are easy to obtain and do not compete with humans. Organic waste originating from food scraps and agricultural industry residues has considerable potential. However, it is necessary to have a fermentation process as an effort to improve the nutrition and quality of these materials. The purpose of this paper is to determine the extent of utilization of fermented organic waste as fish feed ingredients that can help improve fish growth performance. Keywords:Alternative feed ingredientsFermentationFish feedOrganic waste

Abstract

Abstract. Indonesian waters connect the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. These waters are also highly influenced by the monsoonal climate. Current is a very important parameter in the marine environment and affect both directly and indirectly the marine environment. A study has been done in the waters of Spermonde Archipelago in Makassar Strait to develop a model of relationship between tidal current velocities and capture of small pelagic fishes at transition between west and east moonsoonal season. Insitu field data were collected for 3 (three) months, from April to June 2009. Besides that, this study also used a two-year image data (acquired from October 2007 to June 2009). Study sites were deployed in areas of fishing base of small pelagic fishes within the waters of Spermonde Archipelago, Pangkep District, South Sulawesi, particularly in areas where purse seine gears were operated by the fishermen. Distribution of current parameters, depth, wind direction and velocity, and tidal data were depicted horizontally using Surfer v 7.0 software package. Meanwhile, Surface Modelling System v 8.1. (SMS v 8.1) program was used to make prediction of the movement pattern of the surface current. Results of the analysis of current movement patterns when the waters were approaching hightide showed that water mass movement from southern region (Flores Sea) was diverted and passed through the Spermonde Archipelago to the coastline of Pangkep Regency. In contrary, when the waters were approaching ebb tide, the current from the western coast of Pangkep Regency passed the Spermonde Archipelago and diverted to the Flores Sea again. Analysis of current velocity indicated that higher current ( 0.1 m s-1) was found in offshore and tend to decrease below 0.1 m s-1 as the current passing the waters of Spermonde Archipelago. Optimal capture was obtained up to the current velocity of 0.032 m s-1 i.e. 187.9 kg, and tend to decrease with increasing current velocity. At the highest current velocity, that is 0.216 m s-1, the capture was 112 kg.

Abstract

Abstract. As one of the coastal ecosystem, coral reef ecosystem is a magnificent marine ecosystem, where their species richness and composition play an important role for the ability of coral reef ecosystem to respond to the fishing activity and other stressors, where fishing has impacted the fish community, target or non-target reef fish species. The dynamic of reef fish resources, especially the target species, become one of the aspects that must be considered in the management and utilization of the fisheries resources in the coral reef ecosystem and their surrounding area. The purpose of the study was to analyze the dynamics of the target fish in the coral reef fishing activity at the coastal area of Ternate Island, from the growth, mortality and exploitation ratio aspect. The research was conduct from April to August 2018 in the coastal area of Ternate Island. The data sampling was growth parameters data through length and weight measurement. Total sample measure along the research time was 6245 sample (consist of seven family and 11 species). The result shows that the target fish have asymptotic length (L∞) range from 263.16–483.16 mm, with growth coefficient (K) ranging from 0.61–0.92 per year. The theoretic age at length 0 (t0) ranges from minus 0.0825–0.1669 year (equal to 30-61 day). The fishing mortality rate (F) is lower than the natural mortality rate (M), which resulting the exploitation rate (E) for the target fish mostly under 50%, which indicated that the utilization of the reef fishes in the coastal area of Ternate Island is still under-exploited.Keywords: Exploitation rate, Growth parameters, Length-weight relationship, Mortality rate, Stock assessment

Abstract

Abstract. Mismanaged anthropogenic debris land-based has generated the waste entering the river runoff. It was documented that the ocean has been affected ecologically by the waste. Therefore, the data availability of riverine inorganic debris is crucial in implementing mitigation strategies. This study was a preliminary study to identify the inorganic debris floating on the Krueng Aceh River. This study aimed to obtain data of floating inorganic debris types and percentages found at the estuary of Krueng Aceh River that can be used as a reference in managing the riverine waste. It was conducted at the estuary of Krueng Aceh River, Banda Aceh, during March to April 2019. The samples were collected twice a week by installing 4 m x 2 m nets on both sides of the river for six hours. It was identified seven categories of inorganic debris were plastic, foamed plastic, metal, glass, rubber, paper and cardboard, and others. Plastic category as the most floated on Krueng Aceh River with the percentage of 77.8% consists of drinking water bottles and cups, bottle caps, cigarettes, cigarettes lighter, bubble wrap, plastic bags, plastic ropes, monofilament line, straws, and drink package rings. The amount of drinking water cups was dominantly trapped (32%) and identified as many as 28 brands. The plastic debris was assumed originating from anthropogenic activities, and mismanaged land-based garbages. It is concluded that the plastic category, especially drinking water cups, was the most floating on the Krueng Aceh River. Keywords: Mineral water bottles, floating plastic debris, Krueng Aceh River Abstrak. Abstract

Cassava peel meal (CPM) has potential as a raw material for fish feed due to its abundant availability and good nutritional content. The high crude fiber content inhibits the use of CPM as a raw material for fish feed. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effect of Aspergillus niger fermentation of CPM on dietary nutrient digestibility and growth performance of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). It was conducted in 2 stages. The first stage was a fermentation process of CPM, which used a factorial randomized design consisting of a dose difference of A. niger, namely 10, 15, 20, 30 g.kg-1 and a fermentation time of 0, 12, 24 hours with 3 replications each. At a dose of 1.5% of A. niger during 24 hours of fermentation, the crude fiber content of fermented CPM was reduced up to 7.19%. the second stage was a 45 days feeding trial on tilapia used a completely randomized design consisting of 3 different treatments with 3 replications, namely: reference feed, unfermented cassava peal meal based diet (CPMD), and A. niger fermented CPMD. A. niger fermented CPMD showed an increase in growth, dry matter, protein, energy, and raw material digestibility, as well as daily growth rate compared to unfermented CPMD. The daily growth rate of fermented CPMD of 1.32%/day was significantly higher with P0.05 than the unfermented CPMD of 0.72%/day. Furthermore, the digestibility value of material test in the fermented CPMD (48.73%) was significantly higher (P0.05) than unfermented CPMD (11.74%). These results indicate that A. niger fermented CPM has the potential to be used as raw material for tilapia fish feed. Keywords:Aspergillus nigerFermentationTilapiaCrude fiber
