Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed learning patterns, social interactions, and character formation among the digital native generation, creating new challenges for Islamic education in nurturing faith, morality, and ethical values amid the widespread influence of digital information. This study aims to analyze the concept of Islamic education presented in Tarbiyah fi Zaman al-Fitan by Shaykh Ali bin Yahya al-Haddadi and examine its relevance to the character development of digital natives. Employing a qualitative library research approach with content analysis, the study uses the book as its primary source, supported by scholarly literature on Islamic education and digital generation studies. The findings indicate that the educational framework emphasizes the central role of parents as primary educators through gradual learning, the cultivation of strong Islamic faith, character development, and ethical conduct from an early age. These principles remain highly relevant in addressing contemporary digital challenges, including harmful online content, instant culture, declining family interaction, and cyberbullying. The study concludes that integrating Islamic educational values with the responsible use of digital technology offers a strategic framework for developing digitally competent individuals while strengthening their moral integrity and spiritual resilience.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created new opportunities to transform Qur'anic learning through more adaptive, interactive, and accessible educational approaches. This study aims to analyze the potential, challenges, and possible solutions for integrating AI into Qur'anic learning. A qualitative approach was employed using library research and an exploratory study, with data collected from scientific publications and case analyses of AI-powered Qur'anic learning applications, including Ngaji.ai and Tarteel. The findings indicate that AI offers significant potential to personalize learning experiences, expand learning accessibility, provide real-time recitation feedback, support interactive learning environments, and utilize learning analytics to monitor students' progress. Nevertheless, its implementation is constrained by several challenges, including limited digital literacy among teachers, inadequate technological infrastructure, ethical and theological concerns, and the potential decline of direct teacher–student interaction. Therefore, successful AI integration requires comprehensive strategies involving teacher capacity building, infrastructure development, the establishment of a Sharia-compliant AI ethical framework, the adoption of hybrid learning models, and continuous research to ensure that AI enhances Qur'anic learning while preserving educational quality and Islamic values.

Abstract

The growing complexity of contemporary social life has intensified scholarly attention to Islamic moral values as an ethical foundation for individual and social conduct. While discussions on akhlak have been extensively developed, studies that systematically integrate the classification of akhlak, the principles of good and evil, and their implications for human behavior within a unified conceptual framework remain limited. This study aims to examine the classification of akhlak in Islam, analyze the Islamic principles that distinguish good from evil, and explore their relevance to human behavior. A qualitative library research approach was employed by examining classical and contemporary literature, including books, scholarly articles, and academic publications related to Islamic ethics. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis through data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and synthesis. The findings demonstrate that Islamic morality is structured around akhlak mahmudah and akhlak mazmumah, with both categories originating from the spiritual condition of the individual. The study further reveals that the standards of good and evil are derived from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, providing an objective ethical framework that guides human conduct. These findings reinforce the significance of moral education, exemplary practice, and character formation in strengthening individual integrity while responding to contemporary moral challenges from an Islamic perspective.

Abstract

The Abbasiyah period is frequently portrayed as the golden age of Islamic education, yet this label often separates political history, educational institutions, and intellectual traditions into independent narratives. This study examines how transmitted religious knowledge and rational-empirical inquiry were organized within the educational ecology of the Abbasid era and assesses their relevance to contemporary Islamic education. A qualitative historical literature approach was employed by comparing scholarly books, journal articles, and previous studies on Abbasid educational institutions, the translation movement, mosques, madrasas, and Bayt al-Hikmah. The findings show that the relationship between naqli and aqli reasoning did not emerge from a single centralized curriculum. It was produced through an institutional network comprising kuttab, mosque-based halaqah, libraries, book markets, hospitals, observatories, madrasas, and Bayt al-Hikmah, supported by patronage, waqf, scholarly mobility, and translation. Bayt al-Hikmah was an important intellectual infrastructure, but equating it directly with a modern university obscures its historically specific functions. The Abbasid experience remains relevant through its interdisciplinary orientation, literacy and research culture, institutional diversity, sustainable financing, and ethical commitment to knowledge. Its contemporary use, however, requires critical adaptation rather than romantic replication.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the perspectives of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah on the tahlilan tradition, which is widely practiced among Indonesian Muslims. The research employs a qualitative approach using the library research method by examining relevant books, scholarly journals, and other academic literature related to the topic. The findings reveal that Nahdlatul Ulama accepts tahlilan as a religious tradition that incorporates elements of dhikr, prayer, and social values that strengthen solidarity and communal cohesion. In contrast, Muhammadiyah does not regard tahlilan as a specifically prescribed Islamic practice, as it emphasizes adherence to the Qur’an and the Sunnah as the primary foundations of worship. Despite these differing perspectives, both organizations acknowledge the importance of offering prayers for the deceased. The study further indicates that these differences primarily stem from their distinct methodological approaches to interpreting and applying the sources of Islamic teachings, which ultimately shape their respective religious perspectives and practices within the Indonesian Muslim community.

Abstract

This article examines the integration of human rights (HR) and tolerance values in Islam through a thematic (maudhu’i) interpretation of Qur’anic verses combined with a historical-juridical analysis of the Charter of Medina, in order to formulate a model of religious conflict resolution in Indonesia. The study is motivated by the rise of intolerance, obstacles to minority worship, syncretism in the name of tolerance, and persecution and vigilantism that undermine national plurality. This research employs a qualitative library method with a thematic exegetical approach and sociocultural analysis of primary sources: the Qur’an, the text of the Charter of Medina, and authoritative works of tafsir. The findings show that, first, the Islamic concept of human rights rests on a theocentric paradigm (karamah al-insan) balancing rights and obligations, distinct from the Western anthropocentric paradigm. Second, the Charter of Medina reflects theocentric human rights and inclusive citizenship (ummah wahidah) consistent with the thematic interpretation of QS al-Baqarah: 256, al-Hujurat: 13, al-Kafirun: 6, al-Ma’idah: 8, al-An’am: 151, and al-Ma’idah: 32. Third, integrating both sources produces a wasathiyah paradigm that requires the state to guarantee minority worship, reject syncretism, and eradicate vigilantism through the state monopoly of law. This article contributes a revelation-based normative-practical framework to strengthen religious harmony policies in Indonesia.

Abstract

Developing independence among children with intellectual disabilities requires educational approaches that integrate practical life skills with character and spiritual development. This study examines how Islamic values are internalized through Islamic Guidance and Counseling within culinary vocational activities at SLBN 1 Yogyakarta. A qualitative design with a narrative approach was employed, with data collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving guidance and counseling teachers, culinary instructors, and students with intellectual disabilities. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the internalization of Islamic values is implemented through continuous guidance, behavioral habituation, role modeling, motivational support, and spiritual reinforcement during culinary learning activities, fostering discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, social interaction, and simple vocational competencies that contribute to students' independence. Overall, the study demonstrates that integrating Islamic Guidance and Counseling with vocational education creates a holistic learning environment that effectively supports both character formation and the development of adaptive life skills for children with intellectual disabilities in special education settings.

Abstract

The amendment to the Indonesian Marriage Law through Law Number 16 of 2019, which raised the minimum marriage age to 19 years, was intended to strengthen child protection and promote marital readiness. Nevertheless, the policy has shown limited effectiveness in fostering substantive marriage readiness and long-term family resilience because it primarily emphasizes chronological age while paying insufficient attention to psychological, social, economic, and spiritual preparedness. This study aims to examine Prof. Nasaruddin Umar's concept of the "11 Proactive Mediation Strategies" as an alternative framework for strengthening family resilience. Employing a qualitative library research design with content analysis and hermeneutic approaches, the study analyzes the concept through the perspectives of Progressive Law and Maqashid al-Shariah. The findings reveal that Nasaruddin Umar proposes a multidimensional model of marital readiness that integrates legal, psychological, social, economic, and spiritual dimensions through a tiered mediation system consisting of prevention, early intervention, and post-divorce assistance. This study contributes an integrative framework that bridges state legal policy with the substantive objectives of Islamic law, thereby offering a preventive and holistic approach to strengthening family resilience in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited scholarly attention devoted to linking the inner dimensions of classical Islamic mysticism, particularly qalb, lathifah ruhaniyyah, Sir, and Sirrul Sir, with contemporary psychology of religion and mental health. It aims to analyze these concepts in the thought of Imam al-Ghazali as elaborated by Shaykh Ihsan Jampes in Sirāj al-Ṭālibīn and to examine their relevance to psychospiritual resilience, positive religious coping, and mental health. Employing a qualitative descriptive library research approach with content analysis, this study examines primary sources, namely Ihyā’ ‘Ulūm al-Dīn and Sirāj al-Ṭālibīn, supported by contemporary scholarly literature. The findings reveal that qalb represents the lathifah rabbaniyyah as the center of human spiritual consciousness, while Sir and Sirrul Sir describe deeper spiritual dimensions that guide individuals toward self-awareness, meaning-making, and complete surrender to Allah. Furthermore, the stages of Sir al-‘Ilm, Sir al-Hāl, and Sir al-Haqīqah illustrate a process of spiritual development that cultivates humility, meaning-making, and tawakkul. Overall, this study concludes that these concepts provide a relevant conceptual foundation for strengthening psychospiritual resilience, positive religious coping, and mental health in addressing contemporary psychological challenges.

Abstract

Child marriage remains a persistent social and legal challenge in Indonesia despite the enactment of Law Number 16 of 2019, which raised the minimum legal age for marriage. This study examines child marriage from the perspectives of positive law, Islamic law, power relations theory, and maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, while exploring its implications for child welfare. A qualitative library research approach was employed through the analysis of legislation, classical and contemporary Islamic legal literature, scholarly articles, and relevant previous studies. The findings reveal that child marriage is influenced not only by economic conditions, educational attainment, social environments, and religious interpretations but also by unequal power relations operating within families, communities, and social institutions. The authority exercised by parents, religious leaders, and prevailing cultural norms often constrains children's autonomy in deciding whether and when to marry. From the perspective of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, child marriage has the potential to undermine the protection of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), intellect (ḥifẓ al-ʿaql), lineage (ḥifẓ al-nasl), and property (ḥifẓ al-māl). This study argues for the reconstruction of Islamic family law based on maṣlaḥah, child protection, and equitable family relationships in order to prevent structural domination and promote children's welfare, dignity, and fundamental rights.
