Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to examine the impact of parental separation on the academic experiences of Bachelor of Physical Education students, focusing on how it influences their learning, engagement, and overall academic performance. By exploring both the challenges they face and the coping strategies they employ, the study seeks to provide a deeper understanding of the educational implications of parental separation and contribute to the development of targeted support systems for affected students. Methodology: A qualitative approach was used to gain an in-depth understanding of the participants' experiences. Interviews were conducted among 25 Bachelor of Physical Education students using a validated set of open-ended guide questions. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and translated to ensure accuracy and consistency in data interpretation. For data analysis, thematic analysis was employed, allowing the researchers to identify recurring patterns, themes, and significant insights related to the effects of parental separation on students' learning and coping mechanisms. This systematic approach ensured that the findings were grounded in the participants' lived experiences, providing a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. Main Findings: The study identified five significant effects of parental separation on students: loss of focus, feeling depressed, missing classes, studying hard to reach goals, taking the situation positively, lack of financial support, delays in submitting schoolwork, reduced moral support from parents, and even dropping out of school. In terms of coping mechanisms, the participants identified five main strategies: engaging in physical activities, strengthening their faith in God, using the situation as motivation, surrounding themselves with supportive people, staying brave and keeping away from negativity, and remaining positive by going with the flow and being grateful. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study highlights the significant impact of parental separation on students’ academic performance and identifies physical activity as an effective coping mechanism. It provides valuable insights into the experiences and resilience strategies of Bachelor of Physical Education students, offering a culturally relevant perspective in the context of the Philippines.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study investigates the experiences, challenges, job performance, financial and professional impact, coping strategies, and perceptions of Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) teachers who are assigned outside their area of specialization. Methodology: This study utilized a phenomenological approach. Twelve public school TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education) teachers were purposively selected based on their years of teaching outside their specialization and their willingness to participate. The data collection technique included the profiling of participants and the use of open-ended questions designed to elicit detailed descriptions of the participants’ experiences, challenges, and coping strategies. The data gathered from the interview sessions and written responses were transcribed and thematically analyzed to identify emerging themes. Main Findings: The findings indicate that TLE teachers are often assigned to subjects like Filipino, MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health), Values Education, Social Studies, English, and Science, mainly covering MAPEH and Filipino. This leads to challenges such as anxiety and questions about pursuing further education, hindering their professional growth. While the financial impact is negligible due to the provided materials, the mismatch affects teaching performance and student trust. Teachers often collaborate, use multimedia, and engage in self-directed learning to cope. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study presents a comprehensive analysis of how TLE teachers teaching outside of specialization impact the quality of education provided to students. It recommends implementing free retooling programs, offering scholarship grants, and providing teacher training. The study emphasizes the need for teachers to teach within their specialization and for strengthening community partnerships to address the shortage of specialized educators.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Science learning in the industrial revolution era also encourages teachers to provide learning media that support students' characters. One of the supporting media is the use of teaching aids. Limited resources pose a significant challenge for students. Students at State Junior High School 1 Golewa are also experiencing this issue. This study aims to identify students' perceptions of the use of human respiratory system teaching aids. Methodology: We conducted the study on Grade VIII students of State Junior High School 1 Golewa using observation and questionnaire methods. Data collection techniques involved participatory observation and student response questionnaires. The data were analyzed descriptively. Main Findings: The results showed that the use of teaching aids increased students' involvement and understanding of the concept of the respiratory system. Most students stated that teaching aids helped them understand the material better, increased their interest in learning, and encouraged activity and interaction during learning. Novelty/Originality of this study: This results confirm that teaching aids play an important role in improving the quality of science learning. The conclusion of this study is that the use of teaching aids is effective in increasing students' understanding of the human respiratory system material.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Filipino students' declining science performance calls for innovative instructional methods. This study evaluated the effects of integrating comic-based instruction and the Polya Method in Grade 8 Physics lessons at Opol National Secondary Technical during the 2023–2024 school year. Methodology: Thirty-six students were selected using convenience sampling. Employing a mixed-method approach, this study used a one-group pre-test and post-test design and focus-group discussions for qualitative data. Conceptual understanding and science motivation were assessed over one month using a 30-item pre- and post-test aligned with the Department of Education competencies. Main Findings: Pre-test results from 86.11% of students who needed improvement categories were high. After the intervention this percentage distribution decreased to 13.89%, with improvements in the categories of satisfactory (30.56%) and outstanding (13.89%). Qualitative analysis indicated increased science motivation (moderately high to high), and thematic analysis revealed enhanced engagement, enjoyment, academic performance, and problem-solving skills. Post-intervention, mean test scores rose from 11.31 to 19.69 (t = 13.786, P = 0.0001), demonstrating the effectiveness of combining comic-based learning with Polya's method. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research presents newly gained perspectives on incorporating comic-based learning and the Polya Method to enhance the conceptual understanding and science motivation of Filipino secondary students in selected Physics lessons. Thematic analysis unveiled three unique themes that contribute to the science education research literature focused on the Philippines and these strategies.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Describe the influence of collaboration skills on the learning outcomes of global warming concepts for students at Alumnika Sains High School Palembang. Methodology: This type of research uses a qualitative descriptive method that aims to provide a description of collaboration skills and student learning outcomes in physics learning on global warming material. Data collection techniques in this research include direct observation, using research instruments in the form of rubric sheets and self-assessment collaborative research questionnaires. Main Findings: The results show that if the significance value of the correlation test is 0.752, which is greater than the general significance threshold value which is set at 0.05, then the conclusion is that there is no significant relationship between collaboration skills and learning outcomes of students in the sample. Novelty/Originality of this study: Adding a new perspective on how collaboration skills may not always be significantly correlated with learning outcomes on specific concepts such as global warming in Indonesian high school environments, provides an opportunity to explore other variables that may be more influential.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to determine the validity of the developed E-LKPD. Methodology: The data obtained from the experts were analyzed by considering comments or suggestions using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI). This E-LKPD product validation sheet was validated by 7 experts, namely 2 lecturers from the Malaysian University of Technology, 2 lecturers from Sriwijaya University, 2 junior high school teachers, and 1 Laboratory Practitioner. This product is validated in the aspects of design, content, Problem Based Learning, and aspects of students' critical thinking skills. Main Findings: The results of the validity of the E-LKPD conducted by 7 validators are allowed to be used. because the overall value of the E-LKPD aspect (S-CVI / AVE) is 0.95 and falls into the category of a very strong level of validity. while the S-CVI /UA score is 1 so that it can prove this product can be used for teaching materials from teaching and can improve students' thinking skills through the problem-based learning model. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in the validators who validated this E-LKPD so that it can be developed into a better product using CVR and CVI.
