Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study investigated the impact of sustainability-integrated lessons in ecology on Grade 11 students' conceptual understanding, attitudes, and perceptions toward sustainable development. Methodology: An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was employed, involving quantitative data collection followed by qualitative exploration. A purposive sampling technique was used to select one intact class of 38 Grade 11 students, ensuring that both male and female students were represented. Pre- and post-tests assessed students' conceptual understanding, while attitude scales measured shifts in sustainability attitudes. Qualitative data, gathered from student-written journals, provided insights into personal reflections and behavioral intentions. Main Findings: Results demonstrated significant (p<0.001) gains in students' conceptual understanding and attitudes toward sustainability, regardless of gender. Qualitative analysis revealed students' increased sense of personal responsibility, community involvement, and environmental awareness. Novelty/Originality of this study: The present study addresses a gap in the local curriculum by investigating the impact of lessons that integrate sustainability principles into ecology education. The study findings underscore the value of embedding sustainability concepts in ecology education through active and experiential learning, fostering knowledge, positive attitudes, and a commitment to sustainable practices among students, empowering them to be proactive environmental stewards in their communities.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research was conducted to investigate how the praxis and effectiveness of digital literacy praxis in diploma III students of the Marine Transportation Management study program at the Merchant Marine Polytechnic of Sulawesi Utara. Methodology: The type of approach used in this study is a mix method approach, which is by combining quantitative and qualitative research. Quantitative research was used to calculate the number of correspondent responses. Qualitative research is the activity of exploring and developing the phenomena that occur. Usually, qualitative research makes a complex picture, examines words, detailed reports from the respondent's point of view and conducts a study on the situation that occurs. Main Findings: From the findings and discussions that have been carried out regarding the praxis of the four pillars of digital literacy in Marine Transportation Management students in the 3rd semester at Merchant Marine Polytechnic of Sulawesi Utara, 2 (two) conclusions can be reached. The first conclusion is that digital skills are the pillars in digital literacy that are most mastered by Marine Transportation Management students in the 3rd semester at Merchant Marine Polytechnic of Sulawesi Utara. Students are very proficient in using digital devices and utilizing the internet network in processing information. Novelty/Originality of this study: In common ways, the result of this research will offer valuable information to set up appropriate solution to make learning materials in order to empower and enrich students skills on literacy understanding and its practice.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This article will focus on the validity criteria, with the aim of this research being to assess the extent to which the physics learning media specific to the parabolic motion subtheme in the form of videos developed can be considered valid. Methodology: This study used research and development (R&D) with the Alessi and Trollip model. The data collection technique was carried out through a validation sheet instrument conducted by 5 expert validators. The development of learning videos was carried out for class XI Senior High School 22 Palembang. Main Findings: The assessment of the content aspect of the material resulted in a CVI value of 0.93. Furthermore, the evaluation of the media presentation aspect attained a CVI score of 1, and the validation of the productivity and innovation aspects of the material also scored 1. Since the CVI scores are all at 1, it can be inferred that the instructional video created is both valid and appropriate for educational purposes. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research makes a real contribution in answering the needs of modern learning with the STEM approach and AI technology. The results of this media validation are expected to be a reference for further research and become an inspiration for educators in developing innovative learning media.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to analyze the needs of students in learning physics related to energy literacy by utilizing the potential of waterfalls as a reference for developing e-modules in Edupark. Methodology: The methodology of this study is survey- quantitative descriptive research. Data collection through questionnaires given to respondents using google form. The research location is at Senior High School 1 Prabumulih, Senior High School 04 Ogan Komering Ulu, Senior High School 1 Merapi Timur, Senior High School 6 Prabumulih, Senior High School 1 Makarti Jaya, Senior High School 1 Bayung Lencir, Senior High School 10 Palembang, Senior High School 2 Palembang, Senior High School 1 Unggulan Muara Enim. Main Findings: The findings of this study tentang Do you think physics is a difficult subject to learn percentage 64%, Have you ever visited a waterfall before percentage 50,1%, Have you ever been taught energy related concepts on waterfalls percentage 31,5%, Have you ever been taught using E-Modules related to waterfall eduparks percentage 51%, Have you ever heard of hydropower before percentage 87,1%, Do you agree that hydropower can provide more stable energy than other renewable energy sources percentage 89,1%. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in the e-module associated with the waterfall edupark towards students' energy literacy. The findings can provide new insights in the context of education and researchers to develop appropriate innovations to improve e-modules.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the disaster mitigation-based semester learning plan for the general course of living environment studies at Tadulako University. Methodology: This is a descriptive qualitative study employing purposive sampling and survey methods using questionnaires. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Thirty respondents participated in the study. Main Findings: Findings reveal that semester learning plan development indicators require seminars and workshops with experts, faculty, students, and alumni. The semester learning plan integrates disaster mitigation-oriented learning outcomes using case methods and team-based projects supported by field practice. semester learning plan implementation aligns with lecturers' improvisation, and periodic reviews are recommended every three years. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study provides a framework for integrating disaster mitigation into the semester learning plan for general course of living environment studies, highlighting practical approaches like case methods and field projects. It advances the integration of disaster education into university-level environmental curricula.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aimed to determine the experiences and perspectives of students of Second Language English (ESL) or English as Foreign Language (EFL) Year 2 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), on how Artificial Intelligence - powered assisted tools impact their Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. Methodology: This study adopted a narrative approach, an appropriate theoretical basis with Braun and Clarke's Thematic Analysis for qualitative data to uncover codes, sub themes and themes. The method used to gather data was a face-to-face Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with thirteen Year 2 IB DP students (Grade 12) participants. The FGD was recorded and transcribed. Main Findings: The use of Artificial Intelligence tools had positive impact to a lesser extent and temporarily helpful on their thinking, research and writing skills, with highly positive effect to self-management skills but detrimental in the long term. Overall, AI tools can cause adverse effects on the users, but if it is properly integrated and correctly use with appropriate guidelines, AI tools have the potential to be beneficial for learners. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study explores the impact of specific AI tools, ChatGPT and QuillBot, on the Approaches to Learning skills of students at an IB world school. This study focused on writing, thinking, research, and self-management skills from the perspective of students, themselves, hence, offering insights how AI tools enhance or degrade skills that could shape future educational policies.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The study aimed to compare the effects of social trends-based instruction to conventional method of teaching on students’ conceptual understanding in mathematics. Methodology: The study employed a quasi-experimental research design using test questionnaire which was formulated by the researcher based on the National Council for Teachers in Mathematics (NCTM) principles and standards for teaching mathematics. Data were collected from two groups of First Year BS Hospitatily Management college students, analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences and involved ethics review and informed consent. Main Findings: The study revealed that both social trends-based instruction and traditional instruction methods led to improvements in students' conceptual understanding in mathematics. However, the social trends-based instruction group demonstrated higher scores on students’ learning of the topic. Findings also revealed through the Analysis of Covariance that the type of instruction used in both groups had a significant impact on students’ conceptual understanding. Novelty/Originality of this study: To the best of the researcher's knowledge, no existing study has integrated social trends into mathematics teaching to the extent explored in this research. This study uniquely integrates Social Trends-Based Instruction in teaching mathematics to evaluate its influence on students’ conceptual understanding. This study offers a new perspective for mathematics classroom and serves as an instructional model for mathematics educators to enhance mathematical learning of students. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and curriculum developers seeking to modernize mathematics instruction.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This qualitative study underscores the potential variability in learners’ autonomous learning due to the differences in psychological factors, and endeavors to explore Bangladeshi English English language learners’ motivation, attitude, and practices for conceptualizing their readiness for learner autonomy. Methodology: To reach its aim, a qualitative research design was employed to investigate the participants’ motivation, attitudes, and practices. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 20 students enrolled in an EFL program in different Bangladeshi universities. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the interview data, relating to the key themes related to learner autonomy. Main Findings: The findings substantiate the participants’ readiness as evidenced by their clear learning goals, active engagement in a wide range of autonomous practices, and positive attitudes towards autonomous learning. However, a significant degree of teacher dependency traced among the participants, leading the study to classify their readiness as ‘reactive autonomy’. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study is unique in a sense that it explores learners’ readiness for autonomy by gauging their motivation, attitude, and practices from a holistic perspective. It bridges gaps in the existing literature by addressing both motivational and attitudinal aspects of the learners, offering nuanced insights into fostering learner autonomy, particularly in contexts like Bangladesh, where traditional, teacher-centered approaches have long dominated the educational landscape.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to present concise information related to implementing ethnobotanical research in West Kalimantan as a biology learning resource. Methodology: This research is classified as qualitative research with the type of literature review. Each scientific article found during the search process is then analyzed, and the results are presented as tables and graphs. Main Findings: Based on the search, 63 scientific articles implement ethnobotanical research in West Kalimantan as a learning resource in biology subjects. The ethnobotanical research includes using plants as medicine, cosmetics, crafts, dyes, traditional ceremonies, boards, food, wrappers, and toys. The learning resources developed include 13 non-digital and 8 digital learning resources. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research is unique in that it presents literature studies related to the implementation of ethnobotanical research, specifically in West Kalimantan, as a biology learning resource.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study is to explore ethnomathematics elements in traditional Cang Kuning food, especially in the concept of geometry and its presentation patterns, and to integrate Cang Kuning as a contextual and relevant mathematics learning medium for students' lives. Methodology: This study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic research type. The tools used include interview sheets, observation sheets, and visual documentation. Data collection methods consist of participant observation and in-depth interviews. A literature review was conducted to support the analysis, while the software used for data analysis was NVivo. Main Findings: This study shows that Cang Kuning cake contains various mathematical concepts, including comparison, similarity, and spatial shapes. The process of making the cake reflects the application of geometry in its design and presentation. This cake also has significant cultural value, reflecting the philosophy of the Bugis people and has the potential as a contextual mathematics learning medium. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in the exploration of ethnomathematics in traditional Cang Kuning food, which has not been widely studied before. This research develops knowledge about the integration of culture and mathematics, and shows the importance of cultural context in mathematics learning. This provides new insights for educators to create more relevant and interesting learning methods for students.
